Gym Music
I've recently become one of the hordes of mid 20 somethings with a gym membership they are unlikely to use. But before I give up on the idea of paying to be tortured for a few hours a week, I though I'd give it a proper go.
But here's my dilemma. What music should I put on my MP3 player to listen too while working out at the gym? It has to be the sort of music that will want to make me 'push it' or some such nonsense.
I'd personally go for 'Dangerzone' and 'Eye of tiger' on infinitive repeat, but on the basis that other patrons may overhear my music, this could become slightly embaressing (yes, I do care).
So GD, choose me a gym tracklist (or at least a track) that wouldn't be overly embaressing to be overheard listening too!

Re: Gym Music
I'd go for a combination of anthemic and beat-filled stuff.
I may suggest some stuff I listen to later (although you'll hate it I'm sure) but you might want to try listening to a shortish DJ set. They are dealing with the same sort of thing (dancing vs exercise - pacing yourself). It depends on what type of exercise you're doing though.

Re: Gym Music
I used to use a bit of Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and some of the funkier Fatboy Slim tracks. Crystal Method might be worth a shot, if you're feeling adventurous then most good Drum & Bass tracks would be fairly suitable.
In fact, for newer stuff, you should listen to Annie Mac for ideas, she's got a good show that's filled with tunes that may be what you're looking for.

I always find
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
a good song to listen to while exercising.

Re: Gym Music
I don't altar my music when at the gym to when I am not.
I would say this is because I don't have any music that really suits exercise on my ipod.
Probably because I never started a thread like this for suggestions I guess.

Re: Gym Music
I can't believe you are telling me about Laurent Garnier tracks.
I fecking took you to see him ffs.
But they are 'banging' indeed (actually he only has about 2 good songs himself, but his sets are awesome).

Re: Gym Music
I have:
The Mars Volta
Flash & The Dynamics
Can
Crime In Choir
A Positive Life
Sunshine
!!!
Les Savy Fav
The Starlite Desperation
Lost Kids
Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra
Fania All-Stars
On my gym playlist, all of those are good rhythm based groups (with the exception of A Positive Life who make feel good trancey type stuff). Can, Antibalas, !!! and Flash & The Dynamics are probably the four that achieve the best results.

Re: Gym Music
I can't imagine why anyone would willingly want to listen to Slipknot, in the context of a gym, or out of it.

Re: Gym Music
Korn?
Also, the Linkinpark vs Jay Z tunes are decent to work out to.

There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. However there is also a widely- recognized codicil that any intentional triggering of Godwin's Law in order to invoke its thread-ending effects will be unsuccessful.
