Re: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Read it, more interested in ground breaking evolutions in the genre, like when GTA made the jump to 3d and when GTA First came around.
I'm sure this will be a great sequel with even more things they couldn't quite do in Vice City.

the burglary thing i find absolutely incredible.
the game is, as a whole, looking like it'll be close to objectively the best videogame ever unless Rock* **** things up severely.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
A lot of the 'features' seem like padding to me.
Eating, going to the gym, changing your appearance, thats going to hold my interest for about 5 whole minutes. The house breaking thing does sound out standing, something about breaking into somebodys house, creeping upstairs with a silenced uzi and shooting the shit out of the guy while he sleeps I find appealing.
Just hoping it makes a big jump from Vice City, with an improvement on the piss poor missions that Vice City had.

well, they'd better hold your intrest for longer than that, cuz from what I understand some of the things are integral parts to successfully completeing the game

Re: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Dunno, I viewed the water as a fatal hazard.
Not being able to swim wasnt a problem, was just another way to get killed. Saying it was a problem would be something akin to mario not being able to jump out of those pits on the NES games

Re: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Undoubtedly there'll be a cheat or a skin edit out for the main character soon.
And yes, drowning was quite crap. Of course viewing the water as a lethal hazard is an option, but when you have so many freedom in a game, not being able to keep yourself alive in six feet of water kinda sucked.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Sorry, why does this game look so great?
I read the review too... So it's just GTA, with more mundane crap you have to do. Going to the gym and eating, and having the option to not wear a shirt hardly makes the game ,
So you can be a fat bitch, or a skinny guy, or toned nicely so the girls go "Oooooh". This sounds like a crud version of The Sims.

I think it'd be better if you could customise your guy from scratch, so you felt more like as you made him toned/fat, he was more "you" than just some bloke called CJ.

Making the character black is a change from the usual white, italian guy.

I bet there'll be complaints of racism for making the main character in this black. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

That's the point. It's ok for a white guy to be a criminal, but to depict a black person as one is racist... well that'll be the logic I reckon, in this overly-politically-correct world we live in

Not really, no. To offset it properly you'd need a black heroic main character. A suitable analogy was the long running soap in the UK - Coronation Street. They hadn't had a black character for 20+ years (I think) and the first such character they had they made a burgular. Now, the fact that there had been previous white criminals in the show doesn't offset the presumed racism some people felt. Of course, we can only talk of the video game industry as a whole, and there have been black heroic characters - although none instantly spring to mind.
p.s. I don't actually give a shit, they can call the game "Super ****** Hater Turbo Championship Edition" where you are given extra points for killing pregnant black women for all I care. I'm merely trying to explain why some people care.

This game does indeed rock and plays beautifully.
Although I got more excited when I first started playing Burnout 3 to be fair.

Incorrect. Previous GTA games have never had any heroic characters.
Grand Theft Auto has traditionally always revolved about one single character, who is a criminal. In all the previous games, that character has been white - for that character to suddenly be black in the 5th installment of the game is not in any way racist, nor does it require a black heroic character to make an appearance.
The difference with your Coronation Street example, is that while the show may have had white criminals before, it was likely offset by the fact it had multiple white heroic - or at least non-criminal characters. By entering the only black person on the show as a criminal, they do conform to a possible stereotype.
GTA revolves around a single character, the soap opera about a multitude of characters. Therein lies the difference.
