Dunno why I'm posting this but maybe cos fate lead me to read it. Was getting the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport (de train)) home and some had left the telegraph on the seat.

Seems Labour in England have finally made some concessions for english workers. Now bank holidays are not counted in your 20 days holidays, effectively gaining you 8 extra days holidays.

About time ye caught up with Ireland! Heh only joking I'd say alot of ye will be pleased to hear about this

Eh? Bank Holidays aren't counted in your holiday days. Or at least, not in any job I've ever done. Never heard of it among friends either. Perhaps some employers do it, but that would seem likely completley against the spirit of the law.

I get 28 Days holiday (25 basic + 3 for "long service") plus whatever bank holidays arise. I can also take a day off "flexi" per month, plus any time off in lieu for evening meetings and such (which happens reasonably frequiently in this line of work). Still not nearly enough.

The only complication is if you work part-time (e.g. Mon, Tues, Wed) you get a disproportional amount of days off (as most bank holidays are on a Monday), so they deduct it some other way or something.

Hmm, I also get 25 days basic, all bank holidays off, 6 'free' half day Fridays for the Summer, and the Christmas season off for free.

Does anyone really have the 8 days removed from a 20 day allowance?! I mean, could you live with a 1 day a month holiday allowance?!

Ireland isn't great either. Some companies are allowed to get away with loads of crap. Like my employers.

I get 20 days a year. Not including Bank Holidays. If I want them off I have to book them. If I work them I get time and a half (Ooo much better).

I also have to work them up each year, I do not get a set amount at the beginning of the year, I get 1.66 days per month. If I don't have enough time built up I have to plead for the time off. They won't always give it to you. Bastards.

Germany is stupid. If public holidays appear on the weekend, you just don'e get them. This year almost every single public holiday is on a weekend, and same for next year too.
