Well, we don't know it's pointless, so therefore it's better than nothing.
Or not using Kazaa.

Re: I fought the law...
It's strange you got into trouble for this... there's an official site that has all the recorded Harry Potter stories, with Stephen Fry narrating them. You download them per chapter, on an FTP I think. My ex had them all, and got some when she was here.

Nothing special. But between an X-Box, PS2, various PCs, a mame based arcade machine plus if others bring round their PCs, 8 often wasn't enough.

For all the PCs, it's much easier to have a hosted connection on a LAN.

A few of them have externally acessible services (web pages, etc) though, so it's easy for each to have static IP. Unless you meant something else.

Well, you can set up port forwarding and the like (my games server isn't the network server, for instance).

I'm not 100%. I think it's a dual 1ghz machine (not that it's being utilised in the slightest) with 1.5GB RAM and GeForce3. But that's just what wasn't being used elsewhere, I doubt the specs are particularly important.
Loads of games, although it's all acamdeic at the moment as it's in bits. Olly will apparently rebuild / finish it when I sell him my TV or something.

True, but for various domain organisation / web hosting stuff it was preferable to have seperate IPs.
