Invasion

Fringe Territories, Hellas System, Hellas Prime, 3rd planet from the sun. 03:55 Hours.

The carrier Glory slowly drifted past the outer planets of the Hellas system. Its escorts, a cruiser and three destroyers were flying in formation with the huge ship. The sun glinted of their shining, sleek black hulls. Shadow past over them as they passed behind a small rock of a planet. As the emerged back into the bright sunlight, they faced their target.

As the ships re-emerged into the sunlight, objects in orbit around Hellas Prime blinked into life. Orbital defences had picked up the incoming ships. The automated computers on board the defence satellites activated their weapon systems. The manoeuvring jets spun the weapon platforms around, and the computers locked onto the carrier. The powerful plasma cannons on the satellites warmed up, their fusion reactors pumping out massive amounts of energy. The cooling tanks on either side of the cannon barrel’s turning blue as liquid were pumped through. The satellites adjusted their aim again. The computers detected that the weapons were fully charged, and calculated the correct trajectory to cause the most damage to the huge carrier. Once more the satellites adjusted their positioning. The computers’ decided that their aim and range was at optimum and sent the signal to the weapon to fire.

The defence grid of 25 plasma satellites exploded as two fighter squadrons released their payloads of missiles. They had been hiding behind the two moons of Hellas Prime as the larger ships had appeared, and were ignored by the large defence satellites. The burning wreckages of the planet’s defence grid were slowly pulled into the planet’s atmosphere.

As the fighters turned back towards their home ship, three destroyers appeared from behind the planet. The attacking force turned to engage. The resulting battle was short and fierce. The defending destroyers were quickly destroyed, the last of which exploded in a large fireball when its reactor was hit. The other two were drifted in space, burning wrecks, slowly getting pulled in by the planet’s gravity. The escorting cruiser and one of the destroyers took damage.

On board the carrier, the klaxons rang. A female voice sounded over the ship intercom.

“Orbital defences neutralised. All marines report to your landing vessels, repeat, all marines report to your landing vessels. Prepare for planetary assault.”

Character creation:

You are an Earth Force Marine attached to the Special Attack Unit of the 3rd Fleet, and your unit has been tasked with the neutralisation of an uprising in the fringe and the elimination of its leadership.

Standard armament consists of an Assault Rifle, a side arm, and 3 frag grenades. You have some freedom in creation of your character and can specialise if you wish, changing your armaments (but I will limit you if you go crazy ) e.g. if you wish to have slightly heavier armaments, you can carry a missile launcher as extra, but you then have the burden having to protect your partner who carriers your ammo.

Re: Invasion

Name: Cali Roxborough
Age: 26
Height: 5'10''
Weight: 165 lbs

Equipment: Flamethrower, napalm-B tank, gasmask, flameretardant coat, 9mm pistol, 3 incendiary grenades.

Description: Standing almost as tall as an average man, this trim tomboy moves with ease no matter the crowd; slipping by mostly unnoticed and seldom recieving a second glance. Her black hair is cropped close to her scull with the slight beginning of a pair of sideburns at her temples. Her pale face is slightly androgynous, but most would still say she's pretty enough to clearly be female; her shrewd topaz eyes and her thin lipped mouth together with a slight buttonish nose give her an almost pixie like appearance.
Her features are slightly marred by the presence of of two small scars: One barely longer than her nose ridge - placed horisontally across it - and one that begins in the right side of her lip, extending upwards two centimeters. The latter lightly deforms her lip enough to give her the shadow of a sneer.
Her body appears a bit on the slim side; like an athlete. But should anyone have thought her scrawny, these thoughts are swiftly dispersed upon seeing her unclothed form: Her whole body is an impressive picture of fitness. Everywhere stringy muscles are packed tightly under her skin, giving the impression of one who has spent her whole life training to make her body the epitome of physical superiority. Not an ounce of baby fat is left; only the strings of muscles and reliefs of veins cast shadows on her milky skin.

Background: Minnesota born Roxborough grew up with the distinct feeling of being out of place. Alone even in crowds she found her time invested in the study of martial subjects as well as the practice of such in whatever martial arts center she currently frequented. Her peers partied; she trained. Unable to focus on more conventional studies she never attended college but went straight into the open arms of the military. She went through all the moves, the tests, the talks and then the missions.
But even then Roxborough seemed noncommitted as she spent more time marching and pointing her rifle warningly at unruly civilians. Again and again she applied for assignments that would bring her to the front of the hostilities. Her CO finally spoke to her about applying for the special forces and with her consent recommended her for a trial period. She performed well and her willingess to be first on scene landed her with a flamethrower and the role of clearing out roomes before her mates went in. She's new on the team and the Hellas mission will be her first live one.

Re: Invasion

"Here we go." Ser locked his assualt rifle to his back and checked his ammo and 9mm clips. Two pistols were strapped tightly to his thighs and he looked at the skulls the decorated the shoulders of his assualt armor. His shattering blue eyes looked toward the ceiling of the ship. He turned to walk in the direction of the transport ships and he stopped. Without hesitation he bent down and closed his eyes and his mouth whispered a prayer.

Two privates who watched him talked amongst themselves.

"I didn't know Ser was religious." A scuffy ugly faced man with a whethered voice brought a cigarette to his mouth.

"He's a Sunslayer." the decent but otherwise more unattractive man responded with a cough and they both themselves moved to thier assigned squads.

Ser touched each skull and then stood. His helmet slid over his head and he entered the shuttle labeled. SQUAD 17: "SUNSLAYERS"

The men around him all looked at him with an uncertain expectancy. Some were worried, others were excited; however despite thier feelings they would all follow Ser into combat without hesitation. They were his men, and they would fight for him to the death. They would answer any command without question and know that it would better serve the unit to follow such commands.

"Sunslayers. Today is the trial by fire. The reports say that the ground forces will only be 60% resistant, But we all know that's horseshit. No matter how many die today, no one will be left alone on Hellas Prime. You've been trained, tested, and measured. And you haven't been found in lack. Remember the faces of your fathers today and you will survive. Remember your fathers."

The all nodded and responded in kind. "We will remember." They have all said those words a hundred of times. Yet today the meaning was more deep. It meant more to each of them and it gave them comfort. Each soldier held a fist to thier breast in a unique salute that the Sunslayers were known for. Skulls also decorated most of thier armors.

Ser depressed the button on his helmet's built in transmitter.

"Squad 17- Sunslayers are all accounted for. Ready to launch."

Re: Invasion

Name: John Lefevre
Rank: Lance Corporal
Age: 19
Description: Ever since John Lefevre was a boy, he dreamt of honour and glory and making a difference, so when he turned 18 and had to decide on a career for himself, he joined the marines. After several months of bootcamp, John showed great promise and he was eager to prove himself. However, John was also an idealistic moralist who liked to do things by the book, and this kept John from promoting beyond the rank of lance corporal, until he came to the attention of a high ranking admiral who recognised his potential and recommended that he'd be transfered to the 3rd Fleet's Special Attack Unit where, according to the admiral, John could further hone his skills and develop his abilities and hopefully, someday, grow into an excellent soldier. The invasion of Hellas Prime is going to be John's first real combat expierence.

OOC- It's only a small character description (can't be bothered to make a big one and then find out that the thread won't start) and it lacks a decription of John's looks, which I did on purpose, so I can make them up as I go along. Also, unless we get to have a medic coming along with us, it might be useful to have some rudimentary first aid kit to deal with small injuries without the intervention of a doctor. -OOC

On board the carrier, the klaxons rang. A female voice sounded over the ship intercom.

“Orbital defences neutralised. All marines report to your landing vessels, repeat, all marines report to your landing vessels. Prepare for planetary assault.”
Another female voice, this one slightly heated and more than slightly close to Private Fluffie’s left ear, followed up on the intercom’s message.

“People are going to - ohhh... - be needing this vessel...”

Private Fluffie decided to ignore this second voice, as this was one of the rare moments he believed he could do so. He figured there’d still be some time left, planetary assaults usually weren’t rushed in this region of outer space.

Probably noticing a lack of stopping on Fluffie’s part, the lips close to his ear sighed.

“Well...”

She sighed again.

”If you... truyl... insist.

A third, shorter sigh, followed by a soft and swiftly hushed giggle.

Then, as distant yet seemingly approaching booted feet stomped on the metal floor of the Glory, the woman whom Fluffie was kind of ‘pushing’ repeatedly against the side of a landing vessel grabbed his head and slammed it forward, though not too harshly, against said side.

Her voice suddenly sounded a lot more commanding.

“And now stop: or I’ll have you thrown in the brig, Private.”

Fluffe, despite not fully wearing his trousers stepped off and back, saluting his lover. Saluting his Leftenant too, as he more than recognised that particular voice.

“Yes Ma’am.”

She looked at him the way she usually looked at him – with a despising stare. Most of the time she made sure she appeared as if she really hated his guts, rumour even had it she once had repeatedly fired her firearm at his feet during a field training excersise, ordering him to dance like the wretched spacemonkey he was!*

She looked at him once more, the contempt out of her eyes as her gaze went down and then back up again. An anticipating, happy smile lit her face and her voice was silk for the moment.

“Maybe we’ll find a nice campsite down below...”

He threw in another salute for good measure, quickly followed by some lifting and closing of his trousers. The leftenant opened her mouth a final time, all the smile and silk gone, replaced by a furious, bull-leather whip.

“Now get ready, Private! You’ll be at landing vessel Gamma in seven minutes.”

And with that she turned around, straightened her own clothing and jogged off. Not even looking back once. But hey, that was just the way she was.

Eight minutes later, Private Fluffie reported at landing vessel Gamma, precisely one minute after everyone else had. Precisely one minute late.

Rumour also had it that besides her using Private Fluffie for target practice, the leftenant also had other uses for the young and not at all unattractive spacemonkey.

The leftenant herself apparantly also was one minute late, Fluffie’d later find out. He didn’t mind the rumours much, as long as he could be her spacemonkey outside of working hours.

[*Editorial note: Not just rumour, actual truth.]

Post's not perfect. But Crazy wanted it soon apparantly and I'm already 5 hours 40 minutes past my deadline

Re: Invasion

All

The lower decks of the carrier became a bee hive of activity as the klaxons rang. Of course the marines would be the first down, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t be the only ones down. Two companies of marines would be the first down, later to be supported by regiment of regular Army troops.

While the marines hurried to gather their equipment and make their way to their assault transports, the other troops also started to make ready for their landings, in their heavier troop transports.

The marines assembled quickly and efficiently, before filing on board their transports. There was a short wait as the marines sat silently, strapped in their chairs. The silence that had engulfed the hanger when the last marine had boarded their ship was broken at last by the whine of the transports’ engines coming to life. Alarms sounded, and the blast doors slowly slid shut with a clang. The lights in the hanger dimmed, as the large hanger doors slowly drew open. One by one, the transports lifted off from their docking bays and entered the nothingness of space. The twelve ships formed up in a vee formation and headed towards the planet.

As was usual, the briefing for the mission came while in flight. Soon after launch an image appeared on the HUD of each marines helmet display. It was Colonel William Harper, the commander of the 3rd Special Assault Unit.

“Marines, the planet Hellas Prime has decided that it no longer wants to obey the common laws that govern our wonderful and peaceful system of planets and colonies. An uprising has occurred and the governor has decided to declare his planet independent. We must teach this upstart that this is not his planet, but OUR planet. We cannot let little planetary rulers going round thinking they can start up their own little empires.”

The imaged change on the HUD to that of the planet. It zoomed in to show a city and the surrounding landscape. To the south of the city were oceans. Cliffs and mountains boxed the city in on the west and much of the north, while thick woodlands covered much of the eastern side.

“This is their capital city of Acheron. It is believed the head of the military and the governor are located in this city. It is our primary target and must be taken quickly. As you can see though, there is little space to land in the city, and the only starport is heavily guarded from an aerial approach. You will be landing on the east side of the city, just past the woodlands. You are to make your way into the city and secure the starport and disable any anti-air defences, so that our heavy troop ships can land and secure the city. It won’t be easy, but then nothing ever is! Happy hunting marines!”

The transports broke through the atmosphere into the grey light of dusk. Two fighter squadrons formed up above and behind the transports.

”Eagle one to Glory, approaching LZ. No enemy contacts as yet…” A warning light bleeped in the cockpit of the landing craft. ”Incoming missiles! All ships break! Launch counter-measures!” Missiles streaked through the air at the incoming craft. A mass of chaff clouds filled the sky as the transports fired of their counter-measures. Confused but the sudden appearance of hundreads of targets, most of the missiles span out of control and missed. But some found their target. The port engine of one of the craft took hits. Black smoke billowed out of the impact.

”We’re under fire. Eagle three is hit, repeat, eagle three is hit! They’re going down!”

The struck craft start spinning as it fell from the sky. It impacted into the ground, and started rolling. Dirt flew up from the ground as the landing craft ploughed and bounced to a stop, with bits of it flying off in all directions.

Meanwhile, the fighters got into action straight away. They broke from their formation with the transports and immediately targeted the ground missile batteries. A volley of missiles from the air replied to the ones from the ground. A half dozen explosions from the woods showed that the air strike had more success then the ground attack.

”Eagle Squadron, lets do some ground hugging! We’ll let the fighter boys deal with those missile batteries.”

As the transports dropped low, heavy machine gun fire ripped from the tree tops, aimed at the transports.

”Approaching LZ now!” The pilots all flicked a switch in their cockpits, turning on a light in the rear on their craft. It was the signal to the marines to unbuckle and get ready for a quick drop in a hot LZ. The marines all stood from their seats, cocked their guns and got ready to depart from the luxury of their transports. Three at a time, the transports dropped into a clearing and hovered above the ground as the marines disembarked. As the third group came in, a missile streaked from the trees and slammed into the cockpit of one of the transports, blowing the nose straight off. The craft slammed into the ground. As the last transport lifted away, more missiles followed it, and blew its tail off. It spun lazily into the trees. Orders started issuing from commander.

Planetkiller

Your transport was one of the first to land, and thus you jumped out of your craft quite safely. You and the other marines make a dash for some cover. Orders come over your headset.

”3rd Platoon. Head north and start clearing the forest. Set up a perimeter.”

Fluffie

Your transport was likewise one of the first to land, but your orders were slightly different.

”2nd Platoon. Head south and start clearing the forest. Once we have a secure perimeter, you are to locate and secure the crash site of Eagle 3. Bring back any survivors.

Hewitt

Your transport was in the second wave that landed. The same thing happened as before. The marines piled out of the ship and legged it for the cover of the trees. As you made it to cover of the woods, your headset crackled to life.

”5th Platoon. Head south and provide support for 2nd platoon. Clear the forest and secure the perimeter and hold it until 2nd platoon return.”

Dunin

Being part of the heavy support platoon, your transport was in the third wave. As it came to a stop, you could already hear the rattle of gunfire coming through the trees as the marines started to clear a perimeter. As you jump out of your ship, you get thrown to the ground, as a missile slams into the transport. As you scramble for cover, with your platoon, your radio crackles.

”8th Platoon, move west. Start a push towards the city.”

ASME

Your head hurt. Momentarily you thought you had just awoken from another heavy night out with your platoon, seeing as you could not remember much. Then you opened your eyes and found you were looking at the ground through a large hole in the side of your transport. It had finally come to a stop with its nose buried in the ground and tail sticking in the air. Unfortunately for you, this meant that you were suspended in the air, with only the straps of your chair keeping you safe. Groans sounded from the other marines as they also started to come too. Looking towards the front of the craft, you could see that your sergeant was rather badly hurt. Most of the others towards the front of the craft weren’t quite so lucky, and were rather dead. You realise that you should get out of the craft quickly. Surely the rebels would be coming soon, to claim their downed prize…

Xuat

Being part of the ‘Sunslayers’ gave you much respect among the other marines. But it also meant that you were the first into the fray. Your transport was the first down. Reports from the orbiting fighters told you that the enemy was already heading towards the clearing. Your orders were simple, and were relayed to you as you jumped out of your transport. Head west. Kill all enemies you encounter and start to move towards the city.

Ur Quan

You lay on your back, looking up at the fading stars, wondering where you were. Only moments before, you seem to remember being nice a safe, strapped securely into your seat in your transport. But now you were lying on nice soft springy grass. It sure was a lot more comfortable than the rock hard seats provided for you in your transports. Your head ached. In fact, your entire body ached. It was a wonder that you were still alive. Somehow you had been thrown clear of the crashing and tumbling land craft after it had hit the ground…

Re: Invasion

Ser swiveled the assualt weapon from his back and it locked into firing mode. He looked toward the west as the commands buzzed through his helm. His mind raced through certain directions for his men and he picked what he throught would be best.

"Andor take 4 and move point. We are all moving west, sunslayers. We have incoming insurgents closing on us. Kill anything that moves! Remember your fathers."

"Remember." The others responded and the group moved as shadows into the tree line. They were symbols of death. Priests of destruction. Princes of the Dawn.

Not more then a kilometer into the forests and toward the city, Andor and the four others taking point reported, "Sir, we have a small company. Eight men and a fast assualt vehical, with a .50 cal machine gun."

"Take the gunner." No sooner as he said the words, he heard a shot from one of his pointmen's sniper rifle. He moved his hand in a circular motion signalling the others to fan and destroy the remaining soldiers. He feet pressed off the ground and he lead the others over a small ridge. It looked down onto a dirt road that clearly showed the manless vehical and the other men hunkered down over it searching in every direction for the source of the sniper shot. He lowered his stance and moved down the ridge. His sunslayers already fanned out and were on all of the road they moved like ghosts in the early light.

"Take 'em." The priests weapons leapt out fire and the men around the vehical fell quickly. A few rebels released short bursts of fire into the air as thier muscles contracted on a death grib. He made another hand signal.

"Arrowhead. Ghostpath."

"Sir." Was the response from Andor and two other officers. His men would move in four tight groups. Two teams on either side of the road. He lead one while the three other officers lead the others. They would all move within sight of each other and try to be as quick and efficient as they could. It was what the Sunslayers were known for.

More machine gun fire from his men cut the increasing rebels that were just arriving to the clearing where the road started. Here and there a granade discharged thrown inaccurately at the invading marines. The cackle of the assualt rifles echoed into the sky. Ser smiled to himself and to his sunslayers who moved just as they were trained.

Re: Invasion

Two words came into Jack's head. 'Oh. S**t.' Quickly trying to shake off his headache he unbuckled his straps and dropped nimbly to the floor. Several of his muscles complained very loudly, but he shut them up with a burst of will power.

Moving over to where Sergeant Herman was he glanced around to see how many of the rest of the platoon had come around. Finally his attention came back to the Sergeant. His wounds didn't seem fatal, but he still needed to be patched up soon.

"We need to get out of this transport." Jack said to himself, "Were sitting ducks in here. And on top of that Sergeant Herman is injured." Jack sighed and started looking for an exit from this tin death trap. The closest thing to an exit he could find was the thing that brought down the transport in the first place, the great big hole in the side of the transport.

Double checking his gear, Jack prepared to move outside the transport through the hole. The rest of his platoon were now awake, and two of them had disentangled the Sergeant from his restraints and were administering what was left of the med kits.

Finally ready to move, Jack and two others, Mary and Philip, moved out of the transport, Assault rifles at the ready. Behind them in the transport, the rest of the platoon was waiting for the signal to evacuate the transport. Moving around the transport, the three marines nodded to each other and Jack signaled the rest of the platoon to emerge.

They found themselves in woodland several hundred meters away from the rest of the marine landing force. Moving quickly through cover, they headed towards the rest of the marines. They heard gunfire as the marines presumably cleared the forest.

A twig snapped.

Jack, Mary and the rest of the platoon halted and crouched, all with thier weapons ready.

Re: Invasion

John groaned. His entire body felt as if it had been drawn into the deepest recesses of the ninth circle of hell where it was receiving some private attention from the devil himself. When no immediate help came, John lifted his head a little and looked around. There was no sign of any of his teammates or the dropship. He tried to contact headquarters through the radio in his helmet, but it appeared to be broken. He was all alone. John cursed. He had imagined his first mission to be a glorious one that would end with some big shiny medal being hung around his neck and so far he hadn't even managed to properly set foot on the planet.

The simulation units at the academy had never prepared him for anything like this. However, the academy had provided him with lectures about what to do in emergency situations. The class hadn't been very popular, but it had become an obligatory subject ever since the infamous disaster mission to Beta Scorpii. At the time, John had passed the exam with the highest mark from his class, but given his current circumstances, he found it difficult to remember most of it.

The first thing that came to John's mind was that he should determine his own physical condition. Slowly, and one by one he tried flexing all his muscles, starting with his feet and moving upwards from there. Some muscles hurt more than others, but they all seemed to be more or less in working order, so he rolled on his stomach and inspected the bit of grass he had previously lain on. There wasn't any blood there, and thus, John deducted, he didn't have any external wounds. Of course, he might still be bleeding to death internally, but somehow he didn't think that was the case.

Now that John had established that, even though it felt like he had been wrestling Godzilla, his body was mostly unscathed, he decided it was time to find the rest of his team. Very carefully, John lifted his head and took in his surroundings. There didn't appear to be any signs of immediate danger, but nevertheless John took his assault rifle and unlocked it. It was, after all, still unfamiliar and hostile territory. John had no idea as to where he was exactly, but the large dents in the soil and the trail of broken trees provided a clear indication of the route that the dropship had taken during its crashlanding. John decided to follow the trail to the dropship. The trees had absorbed most of the ship's kinetic energy, so it couldn't be that far away.

OOC- I think that ASME and I were both on Eagle 3, only I got out a little earlier than he did. -OOC

Re: Invasion

Kite's Specials jumped from the transport, weapons stowed for speed. A quick visual scan had confirmed that they were clear for at least 300 metres, and that was plenty enough to head off into the treeline. The 3rd platoon was meant to head North into the forest, and as leader of the 3rd platoon's advance unit, Lieutenant Jason Kite led his famed 'Specials' squad ahead at full speed. Known as a carefree soldier that took enjoyment from knowing his work was protecting others, Kite had gathered respect beyond his years with his peers. Most would prefer not to work with him, due to a reputation for changing plans on the fly, and most superiors prefered to simply 'point in direction of enemy and release' rather than actually try to instill any sense of authority into him.

Jason reached the trees just ahead of his second in command, Sergeant Dugan ‘DK’ Kingsley, a dead eye sniper light on words but heavy on actions. DK took up position next to him, unslinging his rifle and using the thermal scope to check for targets. DK confirmed the area immediately in front of them was clear as the rest of Kite's primary team arrived. Daly Kernal, a heavy set African born man who hefted a missle launcher around and Vai Logman, the young Asian women who dragged around his reloads and covered his back with her fearsome custom SMG. The final member, the blonde and charasmatic Christian Ridley, rarely shut up for long, but when he did, the enemy always knew they were in trouble, either from his shotgun or his rifle, which he switched between often. Kite himself pulled out a brace of pistols from his collection, having forgone a rifle for this mission as usual. Ridley spoke first, as usual.

"We're clear right? The unit's all putting down now, don't we need to get moving? LT, what's your order?"

"Frag and clear, any hole you see, kill it with fire. DK, cover our leapfrog advance until all the Specials are in the trees, then move up with us. Ridley, with me up front. Kernal, Logman, follow us in, best pace... be ready for me to call you in if we hit armour. Move."

They did, other marines following after recieving radio instructions and hand signals. So far, they'd been lucky enough not to hit any resistance; there was nothing worse than a hot landing zone. Jason led his men and women in at a light run, pistols pointing at any sign of movement. At both his sides, more Specials ran forward, rifles ready and safeties off. Ridley had his shotgun out and rifle strapped to his back, covering his Lieutenant's short range.

"I don't see a damn thing LT. We got any confirmed targets out there?"

Kite couldn't see anything either, the light was going, but not enough for NVG yet. It was a terrible time to pick to drop; the enemy would spot them landing and Earth Force wouldn't be able to see them.

"DK, anything?"

Kite just got a two click negative back from the sniper, and upon spotting it was his turn to move up in the leapfrog, moved forward again, eyes straining against the gloom. Wait... up ahead, was that a rustle amongst the ferns? He pressed his back against a tree and peaked around, hoping they hadn't been spotted. At that moment, Ridley skidded to a halt next to him, going prone as he did and hissing into his radio.

"Motion spotted, motion spotted, centre forward position."

It prooved Kite hadn't been seeing things, but it could just be a local animal. He wasn't willing to risk giving their position away further without neccessity.

"Someone please confirm, flanks close in. Get me eyes on target!"

Kite took his own advice, edging closer in, staying low with both pistols pointed...

Re: Invasion

Private Fluffie hopped out of the landing craft as soon as its doors had opened and it hovered close enough to the ground to safely make the jump. Quickly sprinting forward a couple of metres, he came to a sliding halt on his knees, firmly pushing the butt of his rifle against his shoulder and scanning the forest and foilage in front of him. Behind him he heard the roar of the landing craft's engines almost overwhelming the sound of the other Marines unboarding, taking up positions similar to his.

A voice crackled in his ear piece.

”2nd Platoon. Head south and start clearing the forest. Once we have a secure perimeter, you are to locate and secure the crash site of Eagle 3. Bring back any survivors."

He wasn't really sure, but wasn't his leftenant on Eagle 3? Much time to deliberate about it was something Fluffie didn't get, as the commanding officer of his platoon was swift to order them out and moving. Deciding to take point, his thumb switched off the safety as he entered the forest, carefully placing his feet as to not make too much sound.

Re: Invasion

Xaut

You and your men quickly dispatched the rebel troops around the jeep, and those that came to investigate the sound of gunfire. As the last rebel fell to the ground, you signalled the advance and moved further through the woods, following the road. As you advanced, you saw no sign or movement of any rebel troops. It seemed that the rebels weren’t backing up their forward elements. That was, until a shell landed in the trees on your left flank. That jeep and men you had eliminated appeared to be the point vehicle of a mechanised infantry Company. More shells started to land around you and your men as the light tanks started to gauge your range. Very soon, you’d have a couple of hundred infantry coming at you as well, as the APCs disgorged their men.

ASME

Yes, both you and Ur Quan were both in the same ship.

You come round first and quickly asses the situation. It was correct. You had better get out of the transport quickly. You and two others quickly get out of the transport and check that the area is clear, which it is for now. You signal to the other marines, and they all get out of the transport as best they can. However, nearly a quarter of the platoon were injured to badly in the crash to provide much help in a fight.

You move into the woods, helping the injured marines as best as you can. You could hear gunfire ahead, and recognised the sound of the assault rifles from the rest of your company. However, as you advance, you hear the sound of a cracking twig nearby. Suddenly, you and your platoon go prone and await the source of the sound. It happens to bear a deer like creature, which has been spooked by the gunfire. It sees you and turns again in fright, and disappears into the woods.

Continuing to advance, you hear the sound of hushed voices coming from ahead. You couldn’t make out what they were saying, but you could tell that they were not marines. As you slowly creep forward and peek between the undergrowth, you find yourself looking at a heavily guarded SAM battery. There are at least 4 jeeps, each sporting a heavy .50 cal machine gun, as well as a tank. There are also two large mobile Missile launchers. It seems though, that the voices you heard were the commander of the SAM battery and the commander of the escorts having an argument. Apparently, the SAM commander wanted to move his launchers to another site, as the marines had landed rather close, where as the escort commander didn’t want to move, as they would get out of the cover of the trees and be a target for fighters that he thought might still be overhead.

[u]Ur Quan[u/]

Struggling against protesting muscles, you slowly get up to your feet, having decided to follow the trail to your downed dropship. You slowly follow the broken trees and ploughed earth to the final resting place of your dropship. But your progress was slow, due to bruised and aching muscles. When you finally arrive, you can see that most of your platoon has moved on, only the few unlucky ones that did not survive the crash have remained. You let out a sigh and are about to set off into the forest when you hear the sound of vehicles coming from the way that you had just come. Looking behind you, you see a small column of jeeps heading towards you and the downed dropship. It seems the rebels are eager to claim their prize. Having a quick look around, you see some weapons have been left behind and are scattered on the floor. It seems a weapons locker smashed open on impact. Maybe you could some of those could be useful…

Planetkiller

Lying prone, with your pistols pointed towards the movement, you want anxiously for the cause to show itself. You hold your breath, trying to make no noise as the ferns move again. Then you hear a laugh from DK.

“Relax LT. It’s just a bunny.”

Just then a cute little bunny rabbit hopped out of the ferns. You let out of sigh. There was no danger at the moment. But there would be soon. Your platoon continued their cautious advance. You had managed to advance another twenty meters or so, when you spotted more movement ahead of you. Erring on the side of caution still, even though you now remember that animals also live in woods, you go prone again. This time the movement isn’t that of a bush, but a well camouflaged soldier, who happens to be sporting a missile launcher, which he promptly fires.

Lucky for you, it wasn’t aimed at your platoon. But the missile did hit a dropship, which promptly explode in a fireball. You wonder if the marines in it managed to get out. However, that thought quickly vanished. A guy with a missile launcher did not operate alone. They were always part of an infantry platoon. That meant that you had just sneaked up on your first targets of the day. Looking around, you could make out the missile launcher and his buddy, but couldn’t really see anyone else. It seems they were well camouflaged. You couldn’t really start a fire fight, not completely knowing where the enemy was…

Fluffie

You advance quietly through the forest, your thoughts not completely on the mission at hand. You struggle to remember what ship your LT got on. You had seen her head in the direction of the Eagle 3 during embarkment, but you couldn’t be totally sure.

However your thoughts are brought back to the present as you nearly trip over a root. You manage to catch yourself before making too much noise and falling over. However, the stumble saved your life. Bits of the tree which you just moved past exploded in a shower of splinters moments after you trip. You quickly go prone, as do the rest of your platoon as a heavy machine gun opens fire on your position. Crawling forward you manage to catch the muzzle flashes and it seems you have come across a small bunker, well camouflaged, with only a slot for the machine guns and a door way above ground.

Re: Invasion

"GO! GO! GO! MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!!"

*Master Sergeant Hewitt screamed into his headset as the marine squad poured out of the transport and made a B-line for the trees. Hewitt hated landings, it was always the one moment during an operation when you could most likely expect a f*ck up of glorous proportions. The worst part of it all was no matter what it is from, you are never able to prevent it from occuring. Ever.*

"Come on! Move it! If you ladies don't hurry up and get your arses under cover it won't be an enemy bullet you'll have to worry about, it will be my boot being stuck up your nether regions! And if that happens you better hope you don't get shit all over my nicely polished leather because then I'll be really mad! MOVE IT!!!"

*For today's jaunt, Hewitt had been lumped with a bunch of misfits so fresh from the academy Hewitt swore he could smell the fertilizer. Indeed they were so green Hewitt wondered if they knew which end of their assault rifles the bullets came from. None the less, these rookies were his charge now and if he lost more than was acceptable according to the military statisticians running command it was his arse. So Hewitt grit his teeth as he watched his baby-faced marines stumble into the undergrowth and firmly switched himself into parent mode.*

"Sound off."

"One!"
"Two!"
"Three!"
"Four!"
"Five!"...

*Hewitt listened in as the squad finished it's sound off. Everyone present... at least that's something. Once complete, Hewitt ordered the squad to spread out and stay alert as he waited for his squad's orders. He didn't have to wait long...*

”5th Platoon. Head south and provide support for 2nd platoon. Clear the forest and secure the perimeter and hold it until 2nd platoon return.”

"Acknowledged command. Orders received. Hewitt Out."

Now to see what these greenhorns can do...

"Alright maggots, now doubt you heard all that but just in case you didn't because you were too busy picking your arse or itching your maggoty balls, I'll repeat what was just said in words even a bunch of retards such as yourselves can understand. We are going to secure the area and setup a perimeter. So, you ladies move forward in your designated fireteams like we talked about and try not to shoot yourselves. If some angry motherf*cker jumps out from behind the trees and starts shooting at you chances are, he's the enemy. So ladies, by all means do yourselves a favour and shoot them before they shoot you, ok? You got that scumbags?"

"HOOWAH!"

"Good. There's hope for you maggots yet. About a malnourished monkey shits worth of hope but still hope none the less."

*Hewitt began to stand up out of the undergrowth.*

"Now, let's move out!"

Hewitt

You scream at your squad, who, knowing all too well what would happen to them if they didn't do what they were told two seconds before they were told to do it, hurried into the trees and took cover.

Being a Master Sargeant, and therefore invincible on the field of battle while you have your plebs to scream at, the strole leasuirly into the trees. Having now offically entered enemy territory, according to the unwritten rules of Mastery Sargeantry, you enter combat mode, and take things a bit more quietly. You advance through the woods, on the northern flank of 2nd Platoon. Not very long into your adventures in the wood, the rat-a-tat of machine gun fire brings you to a sudden stop. The machine gun fire was coming from the south though, towards the direction 2nd platoon was, so it was no worry of yours for now. You continue your advance and notice black smoke coming from ahead. Moving forward cautiously, you come across the remenants of a SAM Battery. The missile launcher was in ruins, having taken a beating from an airstrike, however, the escorting vehicles (4 jeeps armed with heavy machine guns and 2 APCs) and men were very much alive. They were hurrying around, getting read to move out, having no reason to stay where they were.

Re: Invasion

Jason saw the missle man fire, and cursed as another dropship went down in flames. The marines inside would never have stood a chance, and Kite's soul blazed with passion for revenge.

"DK, target on my position. Drop him when his reloader pops out. Quietly."

Not waiting for DK's silenced bolt to find it's mark in the enemy's skull, Jason motioned for Ridley to head to the right, while he, Kite went to the left, circling round the shooter's position. There was bound to be a reloader, maybe even a crew of them. With a bit of luck, they would be lightly armed, and they could take them. Preferably alive, then they could find out who else might be among these trees. It could be just a few missile teams, in which case they could abandon stealth and flush them out. Things tended not to go that well though. Jason just wondered where the enemy soldiers were, if they had not been found yet. He continued crawling forwards, clicking his radio to ask for a report.

"One target confirmed. Any eyes on his friends?"

The first thing he got back was a click from Ridley, to say he was in position. Jason tensed, ready to dive out on whoever might arrive to help the missile launcher. All that he was waiting for was the hiss of a silenced sniper rifle...

Re: Invasion

Ser looked ahead and saw the shells land 20 yards in front of his men. The rest of the sunslayers knew already what his command might be. He judged that an entire company couldn't be fought head on, unless of course they were suprized at the number of his own units. Sure one unit of his sunslayers wouldn't even compare to the size of the infantry. But they had been spotted and they couldn't run from a mechanized company.

He made a hand signal calling for the soldiers carrying the missle launchers and thier ammo carriers. They had already moved off the road and set several of the tanks and several apc's in thier sights. The other troops all moved off the road as well and into the small thick trees where there was a small knoll. They would make the road a battlefield...

"Fire." Ser words unleashed hell. Hellfire missles streaked through the air and locked on to thier targets like hammer's of Thor himself. He quickly followed the others into the tree. The sunslayers were excellent at creating ambushes and concealing themselves in thier surroundings. As he stepped off the road he found that he could barely make out most of his men already. The oncoming infantrys would be hardpressed to spot them as quickly as it would take for the sunslayers to cut them down.

He bowed his head to thier patron Sun-god, "Kohr" in a silent prayer and joined his men.

"All weapons hold fire until I say."

- Summary:

1. Fired hellfire missles at the tanks and apcs.
2. Concealed themselves in the trees on a small knoll to await the infantry ranks that would soon charge.

Re: Invasion

Madcat

You are advancing west towards the city, moving in support of the ‘Sunslayer’ platoon. As you move through the woods, you hear sporadic gunfire coming from just to the north, where the other platoons move. Everything seems quiet in your area of march, until the point man of your platoon is cut down by gunfire. Your platoon drops to the ground.

You are near the edge of the woods and the trees are a lot thinner than where you landed. It seems the rebels were expecting you to land in the woods and have dug in at the top of a small rise. Its probably just platoon strength, but there seems to be a couple of heavy machine gun emplacements, surrounded by sandbags. You sergeant moves up beside you.

”Corporal Yohanson. Take two fireteams (8 men) and move around the southern flank of that hill and move up from behind. We’ll provide covering fire. Take out those heavy machine guns. Once they are out we can advance on the hill. Move it soldier!”

Planetkiller

You felt a sudden rush of air pass over your head as DK found his target and fired off his first round. True to DK’s reputation, the round found its mark. Blood splattered up the tree behind the bush, as the round punched through the soldier’s face and out of the back of his head. A shout came up from the bush.

“Contacts! Enemy contacts!”

The shout was cut off as a second sniper round took out the now exposed reloader. The rush of air could not be felt this time, as rifle fire started to cut through the trees, the rebels firing wildly at their as yet unseen enemies.

Ark

You and your platoon are heading north, covering the western flank of PK’s platoon. You had no signs of any enemy since landing, and that was quite unnerving. You could hear the sound of gunfire echoing throughout the woods as others had made contact with the enemy. You hear a shout off to the east. It seems PK’s men had found their first group of troublemakers. Your sarge orders you to continue advancing cautiously as any enemies would now be alerted that marines were advancing their way. Movement ahead suddenly causes your platoon to stop. Moving quickly through the trees ahead, you spot enemy troops hurrying quickly through the woods, heading east. It seems like they were on their way to back up the squad that PK had engaged.

Xaut

Two hellfire missiles streaked out of the missile launchers that your squad carried. The lead tank and an APC both went up in flames as the missiles hit home. The explosions knocked the nearby men off their feet. Already the machine guns on the other APCs were opening fire at where the missiles had come from. The infantry spread out from the APCs and started to move into the forest. The APCs started to move back, covering the advancing infantry with their machine guns. All around you and your squad, the woods started to get chewed up as round after round pounded into the trees.

Watching the infantry, you could already see the first elements moving slowly into your gunsights. They moved forward warily at a crouch, aware that your men had moved into the trees and taken up defensive firing positions. As the enemy infantry drew nearer, a shell landed behind your men with a rather large bang. It seemed there was a second tank as well as all this infantry.

Private Ark Trollmannen goes to his knees almost without slowing down, trying to make as little sound as possible. Aiming down the sights, trying to determine wich one of the targets that can pose a immediate threat, Ark calls over the radio.

Re: Invasion

"Missle Team! Tank and an APC! Sunslayers! Covering fire! Shoot to kill!" Ser ordered.

At once the sunslayers unleashed a volley of machine gun fire and grenades. Thier wild eyes blazed with fury as the wrath of Kohr was dispelled through thier man-made weapons. The skulls on each of the men's armors shined in the sun and spoke of death to anyone that might of witnessed the sight. Bullets sprayed like death-wielding black priests.

The two missle teams dodged another tank round and the machine gun fire from the APC before setting up. A sound signalled the lockon of the two vehicals that were still shooting at the sunslayers. Almost insantly. Too more hellfire rockets ripped through the air and into the armored vehicals. At once the missles teams dropped to the ground and the rest of the unit continued to cut down the enemy infantry.

Re: Invasion

Concerned that the aparently hostile men will get out of his reach before Ark receives his orders he opens up on them, firing three-round bursts low, instinctivly trying to maim and not to kill. A wounded soldier means two soldiers are out of the combat. The first man in Arks sights is the leading man, who seems fitter than the rest of the group

Godwin's Law prov. [Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. However there is also a widely- recognized codicil that any intentional triggering of Godwin's Law in order to invoke its thread-ending effects will be unsuccessful.

Re: Invasion

Unprofessional idiots. Kite hated fighting amateurs; they weren't predictable. He hit the ground, under the hail of random fire. He tried to get a beed on where it was coming from, but it was virtually impossible through the thick undergrowth.

"DK, I need a target! Scratch that, anyone give me something."

Hopefully someone would spot a large group of enemies, then Kernal could let them have it with his missile launcher. With any luck, at any rate. If the rebels were in disorganised skirmish formation, the whole thing was going to become a chaotic cat fight in short order. Kite, trying to stay concealled, got up and ran forward, vaguely in the direction of where the fire was coming from. As he did, he said into his comm,

"Move in, move in!"
