Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

SO: Sir, Lady Hawk's flagship and carrier has arrived... with a further 10 destroyers.
No1: We can't take on a force of that magnitude, not without further back-up!

Cid looked at the holomap as the Dragon Wing came into veiw. It was massive, too big to see on a smaller scaled map and taking up a large veiw on one side of the map itself.

Cid: Stand down all attacks and take-overs, divert every last inch of energy to our sheilds.
EO: Aye, sir!
Cid: Send the Dragon Wing a message, we are standing down and offering our services and full obediance to Lady Hawk.
Comms: Aye, sir!
No1: What? You are seriously thinking of breaking every Shraanian law?
Cid: What else can we do? The gravity from this system's star is stopping us from making a quick exit, they have way too much firepower for our ship to cope with. I can run diagnostics in the tactical station for years and not get any other answer other than certain death or stand down. It is the only way.

Cid sat down again, watching on the screen as the other captains that had gone with him we still battling away.

Cid: Send a message to the other captians, inform them that I am standing down and aborting the mission. There is no chance in Hell against the opposite fleet. Continue taking over the destroyers and the Asteroids though, we can use a little leeway. On no account should any ship leave the Asteroid feild, for what little good it would do us anyway...

---Summary---
Stop all weapons from firing
Return all vessels to the Gripstar
Send message to Dragon Wing stating a full stand-down
Continue asteroid take-over
Engines to be cut
Every ounce of spare energy to be diverted to the sheilds in order to recharge them.

---Ship Movements for Flapjack---
Stay put
Stand down all weapons
Continue to divert firepower from Asteroids away from the Gripstar

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

The hull of the Tuatha Dé Danann shuddered as the engine awoke with a groan, Kama made it back to the bridge as engineers left right and centre were locking down conduits and trying not to burn the ship's systems as they finished jurry-rigging it back together.

"Well then, looks like we're diving into the fray. Follow the lead of Mr. Fluffie, I hope he knows what he's doing, ful ahead as soon as we break dock."

External lights on the station blinked into life heralding the launch of 12 Hawk drones, flown by remote from the outpost, breaking into small clusters and speeding towards the Borg ship they soon drew level with Kama's less sporty science ship.

"Get those fighters on covering fire, try and draw some of the attention away from the rest of us and give Fluffie some more room to breath. As for the new station, I want all phasers trained on the Borg, try and identify their hangar. If there's even the smallest sign of them launching fighters, open fire.

Looks like the Insectids are up to something, on your toes people!"

The survey team are still posted to the station, tinkering with it's background systems and layout, if they can learn anything about that datacore they're going to try, but otherwise it's ignored by the mainstay of the crew. We can work on that once we're done.

In conclusion
Kama and friends come to the rescue of our valliant hero Fluff (or at least, they make their way back to engange the enemy)
And there's some fighter drones which attack
But the Station's weapons are in reserve if anything sudden happens.
Hope Fluffie has a plan, because Kama's ship doesn't have any walking boots.

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

* Seated in his captain's chair on the bridge of The Outcast, an astonished Dr. Burnham was looking at the severed arm on his lap for several seconds before it got through to him that it is in fact, his own arm and that it hurt like hell. As Lisa, his No1, helped him up and stoped the arm from bleeding with a special kind of spray she took from a first aid kit below the captain's chair, Dr. Burnham quickly surveys his bridge. Apart from a few cuts and some minor burns, none of the bridgecrew seem to be seriously wounded. The bridge itself seems to be mostly intact as well.

No1: "That's looking pretty nasty, Sir. I've already sent for the doctor. He should be here any minute. Larry, take the captain's arm and put it in a stasis field to avoid cellular decay.

SO: "Yes Ma'am!"

Burnham: "Report!"

No1: "That last salvo caused quite a bit of damage to our systems and casualties and wounded crewmen have doubled. We have also lost two of our Jupiter bombers from Alpha Squadron."

Burnham: "Dammit! I want that destroyer disabled before they can take another shot at us!"

WC: "Yes Sir, I am ordering all squadrons to target and disable the destroyer, captain!"

Burnham: "Where the hell is that doctor? What's taking him so long?"

No1: "I don't know. The medbay is on the same deck as the bridge; he should've been here already."

* At that moment, the bridge doors opened and two female crewmen walked in. They were supporting a shaggy looking figure that was carrying a bag full of medical equipment. There was a very strong smell of alcohol in the air surrounding the figure.

No1: "What's this then?"

Female Crewman 1: "We found him walking into the ladies restroom on deck 8."

Female Crewman 2: "Again."

Female Crewman 1: "He claimed to have been lost on his way from the medbay to the bridge."

Female Crewman 2: "Again."

MD: "Heeeeey! Twaz true diz time!"

Female Crewman 1: "So we decided to bring him here."

MD: "Ndawaz mighty nice o' you gulz, bu you needn'dav comalong all vour."

Burnham: "Alright, you two should return to your duties and as for you Frank, I am disappointed. I thought you had found a way to control your drinking problems?"

MD: "Strue Burnie! Strue! Only'z been sucha hectic time in medbay dat I forgot to take my pillz, but don't ya worry coz I'll take one now and den I'll... And den I'll... Whawazit dat I needa do?"

Burnham: "It's my arm. It got severed during that last attack run. I want you to fix it."

MD: "Well, lez takalook."

SO: "It's here, we've kept it in a stasis field to, eh, keep it fresh."

MD: "Good! Good! Daz good!"

* The MD takes the arm from the statis field, takes a look at it and begins to laugh.

MD: "Hihi. Hihi. Hihihi. Hihihihi! Hahahaha! Hahahaaaahahahaaa!"

Burnham: "What? What's so funny?"

MD: "I juz realized I'm in violazion of art'cle fiftree dash treebee ov NSR regulazions dat ztatez medical perz'nel izzen't allowed to carry armz on de bridge, hihi."

Burnham: "FIX MY ARM!! NOW!!"

MD: "Alright. Alright. Don' geddup in armz now. Hihihi. Juz lemme get my pillz to zober up an den I'll give you a haha, I'll give you a hahahahaaa, a hand."

* Dr. Burnham, quitely counted to to ten a couple of times as MD Frank took his detoxication pills.

MD: "Aight. Now dizell juz taka minute or so. I really really hate zis part. Talwayz makez me *hic*... Talwayz make *hic*... Talwayz *hic* *hic*. Tal *BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRP!!!*. Scuse me."

Burnham: "Now, will you please do something about my arm."

MD: "You're lucky, Ebenezer. It appears to be a clean cut and your arm does not yet show any signs of cellular decay. I'll just glue it back on."

Burnham: "Glue it back on? Are you sure you're sober?"

MD: "Yup. It's something new, a collection of undifferentiated cells in a colloidal suspension. When applied to damaged, but living tissue, the cells will differentiate into whatever specialized cells it has been pasted between, effectively reconnecting the tissue on a cellular level. It is in fact based on the Mantis bio armour. All I have to do, is put some of this stuff on your arm and put it back in it's place, keep it there for about half a week and your arm will be just as good as it used to be. Pretty neat, eh?"

Burnham: "You want me to hold my arm in place for half a week?"

MD: "Oh no, of course not. That's why I need to fasten these strips of metal to your bones. They will do that for you. They can be removed after a couple of days, when your arm has healed, but until then, you won't be able to use that arm."

Burnham: "Do what you have to do and then return to the medbay. There's a lot of other people that require your help. Lisa, you take over for me while Frank fixes my arm."

No1: "Yes, captain!"

MD: "Please sit down in your chair, Ebenezer. This will only take a couple of minutes."

No1: "Engineering, report in."

EO: "Sheila here, go ahead."

No1: "Stop repairs on anything that takes a long time to fix. Try to repair those things that can be fixed in a relatively short amount of time. I want to get as many systems back to fully operational status as possible. And see what you can do about that destroyer we just captured. I would like you to get it back to operational status so that we may use it. However, if that is not possible, use parts from the destroyer to repair or replace the damaged parts on this ship. They have a Kylithium powered drive that may be of particular interest to you."

EO: "Understood. We'll work as fast as we can down here."

No1: "Kyra, come in please."

MC: "Kyra here. What's up?"

No1: "We may need your troops to board the other destroyer momentarily, so lock all the pirates you captured in the destroyer's cargobays and make it perfectly clear to them that at the very first sign of trouble, they will be blown into space. Also, I want you to interrogate the destroyer's former captain. See what he knows about Lady Hawk and those carriers of hers. Any information he can give us, such as weak spots or shield frequencies, will be helpful. You may use any means necessary to obtain the information."

MC: "Don't you worry. He'll talk. He'll talk as if his life depended on it. Kyra out."

MD: "There. All done. Remember not to strain your arm too much until it's had time to heal."

Burnham: "Thanks, Frank."

MD: "You're welcome. Now, if that was all, I'd better return to my medbay. I think they will have need for me there."

SO: "Uh oh. Dr. Burnham, we've got company."

Burnham: "On screen."

* The viewscreen shows the remnant of the fading black hole and the ships that emerged from it.

SO: "We're definately in trouble now."

Comms: "Incoming message from The Gripstar. It's captain poo! I mean Killer. He says he has just surrendered to Lady Hawk and suggests we do the same!"

SO: "It's true! The Gripstar is powering down all their weapons and it seems that The Phoenix rising is following her example!"

Burnham: "WHAT?! I don't believe that! It goes against all Shraanian values. If Killer really intends to surrender he'll have a mutiny on his hands. And I can't believe that that docile captain Flapjack is doing the exact same thing! Open a channel to the both of them."

Comms: "Channel open."

Burnham: "Captain Killer, of all people, you, a commander in the Shraanian military, surrenders unconditionally to a ruthless enemy without even trying? And you, captain Flapjack, you are blindly following his example? Your surrender is not only premature, it will also be useless. Lady Hawk is a particularly ruthless and merciless pirate captain. She will have use for your ships, but not for you nor your crews. Surrender to her and you will die a quick dishounarable death. If the situation is really as hopeless as you say, then I'd rather go down in a fiery blaze of glory than go out like a candle in the wind. Burnham out."

No1: "Well spoken, captain!"

SO: "That's right!"

TO: "Damn straight!"

WC: "We're all behind you, Doc!"

Helm: "The way you said that, that was just beautiful."

Burnham: "Alright. I get the picture. It's good to know you're still all behind me on this one, but I need suggestions. Our situation is looking really hopeless."

* The bridge of The Outcast is submerged in a heavy silence for at least a minute as everyone is looking at someone else, hoping that they'd have the answer to all their problems. Suddenly and somewhat uncertain, someone speaks up.

SO: "I... Maybe we can... I mean, I know it's a long shot, but if nobody's got a better idea?"

Burnham: "Come on, Larry, out with it!"

SO: "Well, those destroyers that are escorting the command carrier, they are all scimiter class destroyers and they have exactly the same configuration as the ones we're battling right now. This makes it likely that all twelve of them, were captured at the same time; possibly hijacked directly from an assembly line. Now, unless they've completely reinstalled their computer core, their RSA codes might still be active."

Burnham: "RSA codes?"

SO: "Remote Ship Access codes. You see, most people don't realise this, but shipyards, especially the really big ones, produce dozens of ships a day and until they get shipped, they need to be moved into storage. Moving a ship can be done in two different ways; it can be done manually, by having a crew aboard each ship, or it can be done automatically, by having one computer remotely access and control dozens of ships at the same time by making use of their RSA codes. To cut costs, the latter is predominantly used among shipyards and to keep things simple, the RSA codes are often the same for ships of the same class that were produced during the same day."

Burnham: "You're saying we use those RSA codes to take control of their ships and use their own ships against them?"

SO: "Not exactly. The RSA codes are easily disabled from within the ship itself and they are near impossible to guess correctly by just looking at a ship."

Burnham: "Yes?"

SO: "What I'm saying is, that to determine a ship's RSA code, you'd need to look into the ship's computer. And that even if we manage to do just that, it will only take the average crew a few minutes to disable the code. So, we could control their ships, but only for a very short time."

Burnham: "So what's the point then?"

SO: "Well, we don't need to control the destroyers permanently. We could just make them blow up by overloading their engines. Those high power Kylithium drives should produce pretty fireworks, causing quite a bit of damage to the carriers and if all destroyers have the same RSA code, tracing it, shouldn't be a problem since we've already captured one. All I need to do, is tap into the destroyer's memory banks, look for the RSA code, transmit it to their ships and we're in business."

TO: "Might I suggest a small change in this plan? Before we blow up those destroyers, is it possible to discharge all their weapons into the hangarbays of both carriers? The carriers' main weapons are undoubtedly their fighter craft. If we manage to destroy them or the hangarbays before they can be launched, we are one small step closer to a possible victory."

SO: "Yes, that's possible, but I will require a couple of minutes to tap into the captured destroyer's computer to trace the RSA code and set up the deflector dish for the transmission."

Burnham: "Very well, I haven't heard anyone with a better plan yet. Make it so and be sure not to blow up the destroyer we just captured or the destroyer we're about to disable.
Kimberly, record the following and send it to that command carrier: 'This is captain Burnham of The Outcast. We demand your immediate surrender. Give us Lady Hawk and the rest of you may go free. If you do not comply, we will be forced to destroy you.' End recording and transmit."

No1: "Eh, what exactly are you hoping for here? That she'll pee her pants from laughing and call of the attack in embarrassment?"

Burnham: "Possibly. Maybe my statement will slightly confuse them, but hopefully it will at least buy us the necessary time for Larry to obtain those RSA codes."

------------------------
ACTIONS:

- All squadrons (this means all fighters) are to target the second destroyer in an attempt to finally disable them so that they can be boarded as well.
- MD fixes Burnham's arm.
- EO and ADCT teams repair those things on the ship that can be repaired quickly.
- Repair the captured destroyer so that it can be used in battle again. If this is not possible, parts of the destroyer will be used to repair The Outcast.
- MC is to interrogate the former captain of the destroyer to extract any valuable information on Lady Hawk or their ships.
- Send message of disapproval to Killer and Flapjack in order to get them back into the fighting.
- Execute the above plan with the RSA codes to temporarily capture the other 10 destroyers, make them unload their weapons onto the carriers' hangarbays and then immediately blow them up by overloading their enginecores, hopefully damaging the carriers a bit further.
- Send message to Lady Hawk in order to give her a chance to surrender and to buy some time.

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

[ooc]Well, the only rules really centre on building your ship. That's all that stuff on the first page. :P

I believe this calls for...

Hewitt's step-by-step guide to joining Rommey.

Step 1 - Attempt to build a ship using the instructions on the first page.
Step 2 - Sit back as self-designated stat-nazis tear your design apart.
Step 3 - While "Step 2" progresses, think up a good background for your ship and crew (optional)
Step 4 - Make stat-nazi recommended changes to your ship until it gets approved by LH.
Step 5 - Ignore further stat-nazi 'recommendations'
Step 6 - Commence RP!

Hope that helps. [/ooc]

Thanks for liking Burnham.
I spend quite a lot of time on every post and I try to do my best. It's always nice to hear from people that they like my "work" and it also does wonders for my ego.

NOTE: Below I have tried to explain a few things about how things work in this thread. If you're not interested in reading that much, you should go with Hewitt's step-by-step guide to joining Rommey. It is just as good, but a lot shorter and simpler.

In this thread, you're thrown into an ever evolving universe with friends and enemies alike (although you'll encounter a lot more of the latter than the former). You can read most of the important stuff somewhere on the first two pages. If you want to play, it is useful to know a little about the history and all that (it may help in building a background for your characters).

Basically, there are two types of posts; battle posts and non-battle posts.
The non-battle posts are mostly intended for building your characters and expanding your story. They occur whenever you're not fighting anything (duh ).
The battle posts are for fighting and they occur more often than the non-battle posts as most battles take place during the course of several posts. In battle posts, you, the captain (and probably your main character) is interacting with your crew (usually represented by your officers) in order to overcome a specific threat or enemy that is almost always bigger, better or more powerful than you are, so sometimes you have to be creative in order to win. (NOTE: Battle posts can (and maybe should) also be used to build your characters and expand your story.

So, having said that, how do you start? Well, I think it's personal. Some people seem to create a ship and then come up with a character as a sort of sidenote and it works for them. For me that doesn't work. I always need to have a good (as in well thought out) character before I can play any thread.
I can't speak for others, but in writing and playing a character, I find it helpful if I can either identify myself with a character or picture myself in the character's shoes and then go from there. (People that know some of my characters will now undoubtedly get strange ideas about my person as well as my sanity after reading this. )
This thread is slightly different from most other roleplaying threads in the sense that here, you have to play for an entire crew instead of just one character. I find this is an important thing to remember, because here, your character mostly grows by interacting with your crew. Having a low profile crew doesn't really make your main character shine, whereas having a crew that has its own quirks and twists to interact with, can do wonders for your character. Don't worry if you can't think of something good for every one of your characters and don't be afraid of posting a character that is 'incomplete'. You can always add stuff as you go along or by interacting with your characters. (This is one of the things I had trouble with when I first started roleplaying. I tried to describe a complete, strong and well shaped character in a single post. That didn't work, not for me anyway.)

Now then, how to build your ship? Shipbuilding is tied to some rules and stating them all here would be too much work. It is easier to design a ship, post it and then have it checked by other people such as Mr. J-Kama-Ka-C, Mr. Fluffie and me, who are comically referred to as "stat-nazis". People like Hewitt fear us.

When you first build a ship, it's easy to get lost in the massive list of ships, weapons, shields and whatnot. Because you start with (only) 100000 credits, you can ignore most of the really expensive stuff.
The first thing you need to select is a ship hull (a kind of blueprint that defines what kind or class of ship you have and how many extra stuff you can have). What I consider to be the most important thing on whatever hull (but I may be wrong), is the number of mounts it has. The number of mounts defines how many weapons, shields, engines and other stuff you can add to it, making your ship stronger or more effective. There are four main types of mounts; shield mounts, turret mounts, external mounts and additional mounts.
Shield mounts can only be used for shields. (Makes sense, right? )
Turret mounts can only be used for weapons, or I should say cannons, because things like rockets, bombs, mines, missiles, torpedoes etc cannot be mounted on turret mounts, they require external mounts.
External mounts can only be used for fighter craft and rockets, bombs, mines, missiles, torpedoes, etc. (Exception: light plasma cannon; this can be mounted on a turret as well as an external mount.) You may also get various other equipment (such as sensors) that require external mounts.
Additional mounts can be used to house additional mount users. These are mostly things that enhance or are part of your ship's systems, such as computers, security stations or a holodeck. Armours and engines are also additional mount users. Apart from that, additional mounts can also be used as one of the other three types of mounts. For example, if your weapon requires 3 turret mounts, and you have only 1 turret mount left, you may use 2 of your additional mounts as turret mounts and equip the weapon anyway.

So what makes a good ship hull? This largely depends on your personal taste, but if you're new I'd say stay away from the attack and defence hulls and pick one that is roughly between 30-50% of your budget so that you have enough cash to pimp up your ship with other goodies. (And don't pick a carrier hull unless you think it will be fun to do all your fighting with small fighter craft. I'm trying that myself now and it plays differently.)
Once you have a ship hull, it is useful to know that every ship requires 1 armour, 1 sublight engine and 1 FTL drive at the minimum in order to fly (multiple armours, engines and drives are allowed). Remember that your protection comes from both your armour as well as your shields and that your engines, are in fact your power supply, powering everything from your shields and weapons to your ship systems and speed. Having multiple engines is useful for boosting systems or just in case one of the other engines fails for whatever reason.

I cannot tell you which items are good and which are not. It is different for every person. I would advise not getting too many expensive things on your first ship though as it leaves little money for other things. (Getting an above average weapon, shield or armour that costs a little more is recommended though as it provides you with something powerful.) Other than that, pick something you like and/or that you think fits your character and your story well.

A few things to keep in mind when designing your ship:
- It is NOT required to use every available mount on your ship.
- Between missions, you can always modify and upgrade your ship, selling equipment for 50% of the original price.
- Some weapons need to be charged (usually 3 posts, but this is mentioned in the weapon descriptions) and they are so called "superweapons". There is a limit to the number of superweapons you can fit on your ship and it depends on the size of your ship. Most ships have a limit of 2, a few of them may have more (but they are expensive) and a couple of small ships may have less. Get it wrong and I'm sure one of the friendly statnazis will point it out to you.
- One final rule regarding the entire thread, is that miss Lady Hawk, our lovely DM, is always right and never wrong, even when she is wrong.

I hope this was useful and we're all looking forward to seeing your first post. Any questions you may (still) have, you can just post here and sooner or later, someone will asnwer them.

If I thought otherwise you wouldn't have gotten a mention in my guidebook

Anywho, a few things I'd like to add,

Hulls with fighters included.
Some hulls mention that they come with "10 medium fighters" or whatever. These fighters are chosen from the list, do not take up any slots and are free of charge. This includes carriers. This means that by choosing said ships you'll generally end up with a vessel that has greater 'value' than others.

Of course, there's bound to be a downside.......

Moral.
Moral is important. It determines just how evul LH can be towards you in regards to your crew. It's not measured but every now and then LH may include some form of update or warning on your crews moral - it pays to take notice.

Ambiguous, or misleading descriptions in the parts lists.
It should be noted that the lists on the first page are progressive, meaning that they have been added to over time. However, this means that weapons high up on the list proclaiming to be "the best weapon eva" or "this games superweapon" are out-dated and no longer accurate.

The best way to determine a components true value is it's cost. Basically the more expensive it is, the better it is. Also another good thing to note is the newest, more hi-tech gear is often closer to the bottom of each list.

Be nice to LH (!!!)
For she is evul.

Plus if it wasn't for her, rommey would not exist. Remember that.

So if bad things happen, rather than throw a tantrum it is advised that you pay your respects, bow your head, say thank you a hundred times, kiss her feet, procrastinate yourself whenever in her presence, loudly proclaim you are but a speck of dirt in comparison to her superiority and then continue humbly on your way.

Just don't kiss her ass. No one likes a suck up.

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

One thing that has not been explained in any previous post is the standard Bridge Crew (you main roleplayed crew). These are the crew members your captain will communicate to the most and are roleplayed by you also. They are:

Captain - This, of course, is yourself. You command your ship/fleet from within the bridge.
Communications Officer (Comms) - Handles all communications between friendly and even hostile craft.
Science Officer (SO) - Mainly your scanning officer, also used for scientific research, background checking, scanning ships, etc.
Wing Commander (WC) - If you have fighters on your vessel, the Wing Commander is the person in charge. All fighters get your orders relayed from him.
Medical Officer (MO) - The cheif of the medical staff whom deals with all injuries which are bound to happen during combat.
Marine Commander (MC) - Like the Wing Commander, this officer commands ground troops during raids or during your own ship internal defence.
Helm - This speaks for itself, the Helmsperson flies your ship, be it combat, cruising or hyperspace. You're a sitting duck without one.
Number One (No1) - Your second in command, it's the Number One's job to reinforce ideas, take over the bridge when you are not their and to keep the crew in line. Be careful, as some captains have found out, Number One crew members are the most likely to cause mutiny if your moral is low.
Tactical Officer (TO) - This crew member is your cheif tactics expert, used mainly to help with tactics and to tell you if your tactics are flawed. Most captains do not have a Tactical Officer, instead their No1 takes this role instead.
Engineering Officer (EO) - Your engineering expert, whether you need your ship fixed or you need energy diverted from one system to the next, your Engineering Officer is the crew member responsible to making sure this happens.
Weapons Officer (WO) - You need a weapon to fire? This is the officer that fires your weapons, from torpeadoes and turrets to planet-killer missiles and massive superweapons.

Thats all (I think)

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

Cid was sitting in his chair, a frown upon his face as he watched the good doctor continue fighting and then slowly snapped upright when he listened to the communications message.

Cid: I hate to admit it, but that captain has a point! Continue with the marine take over, cancel all landings and order all fighters to defend the Gripstar at all costs! If we die, at least we died with honour!
No1: Now you're talking!
Cid: Order all marines attacking the asteroid bases to double their efforts! I want those taken over before our attack on that Command Carrier! Concentrate on breaching the main command centre, then divert marines to other critical locations.
MC: Aye sir, I will make sure those asteroid bases are ours before we need them.
Cid: Get a message to captain flapjack, I want him to take all the firepower from those asteroids, he's got the healthiest ship so far.
Comms: Aye, sir.

Cid sat down and checked the holomap, hardly knowing how he would take on a fleet of that size. He pulled out a cigar from the side of his chair, chewing one end of it carefully. The Dragon's Wing was a tough match alone, the Scythe made it all the more interesting... but ten Scimitars? That was a whole new ball game.

Cid: Also, send a message to Dr. Burnham, inform him that we are back in business and continuing our asteroid takeover effort. Also, ask for a hail from him, we may need a very good plan to take a fleet of that size.
Comms: Sending message and hail now, sir.

---Summary---
Continue the takeover for the asteroid bases
Get flapjack back into defending the Gripstar from asteroid weapons
All fighters to defend the Gripstar
Send message and hail request to Dr Burnham

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

Comms: "Incoming message from captain Killer, Sir."

Burnham: "Alright, let's hear it."

* Dr. Burnham listened to the message from captain Killer and smiled. It was good to know that even Shraanian commanders were sensitive to his arguments. The rest of the bridgecrew seemed to be relieved that their captain managed to get their allies back into the fighting and knowing this, they redoubled their efforts and executed their orders both swiftly and efficiently.

Burnham: "Inform our allies that we are working on a plan with the destroyers, but that we have not yet thought of a way to deal with the carriers and that we would value their input."

Comms: "Message sent."

Burnham: "Larry, what's the status on those codes?"

SO: "I'm still trying to retrieve them from the destroyer's memory banks. I think I'm nearly there though. Wait... Here's something. I think I got them."

Burnham: "Excellent. Begin preparations for the rest of the plan then."

No1: "Kyra, report in. Can you give me an update on your chat with that enemy captain?"

MC: "He won't talk, Ma'am."

No1: "Shoot some of his friends and then threaten to kill him as well."

MC: "Oh, that's not it. He won't talk because I think that last blow to his head rendered him unconscious. Maybe I shouldn't have used this lead pipe right away. I'm sorry, this interrogating business is still a bit new to me. Wait, I think he's coming to. I'm going to try again, but I'll be a little more careful this time. Don't worry, he will talk. Kyra out."

Additional Actions

- Inform allies about possible plan (but do not give away details).
- SO is making preparations to execute the plan.
- MC is interrogating enemy captain to extract useful info.

And I do not fear you!!.......sir.

No one likes a suck up.
yup - suck ups = DOOOOOOOM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

on a serious note most of the information can be found on the first two pages of the thread - maybe even on the first 4 - I would take a look at the ships of the other players - ones to take a look at are

Fluffie
Acid-K
Urquan

they will give you a good overall idea of what you can get for money - Fluffie is especially good and can come up with a really good design

Come on folks who do you think designs most of the EVUL ships ........ !!!!!!

Kama (nick name for J-kama-ka-c)

will give you a good idea for a non standard ship - however if you are thinking of joining i would not attempt a Kama sytle ship as it takes a lot of thought

Andromeda is based on virtually every sci-fi programme you can think of

Babylon-5
Star Trek
Next Gen
Deep Space 9
Battlestar Galactica (the new series)
Andromeda
Star Wars (all the films)

infact most of the series/films you can think off over the last 30 years -

hence why there is such a variety of ships - ignore the expensive stuff, that is good advice

Andromeda is also a combat game - you need a good choice of offensive and defensive stuff - but also bare in minde your ship will NEVER have a total defence against everything

Hint - bigger ships make bigger targets - just think of the ships in WW II smaller ships are more mavuverable.

I think that what Hewitt and UQ have said really covers it. Any questions just ask I will answer of one of the other players will!

Tim Clark
(Abby's twin brother)

WO,
Jack Harris

Helm,
Jim Adams

EO,
Scott Thomas

MC,
Paul Andrews

Again, I like to make things more "interesting"... [/ooc]

-----------------------------------------------

TO/No.1: I will be in the escape pod if anybody needs me... *leaves*

WO: Oh very funny. Leave at the absolute crucial moment why don't you Tim.

Hewitt: *sigh* Abby, take over tactical.

SO/Comms/TO: Aye sir.

Click.

Helm: Huh?

ClickClickClickClick.

EO: *Springs to attention* Oh crap! The thrusters just died! We can't manevuer!

Helm: Yeah, I just discovered that genius...

Hewitt: *frowns* Report. *sips coffee*

Helm: Sir, it appears the delapetated thruster modules strapped to this rust bucket finally decided to crap out on us. I have absolutely no control of steering what-so-ever.

EO: Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap *furiously works at the engineering panel*

WO: What do we do now sir? I can't fire the main batteries when they are facing away from the enemy, should I fire now as we are drifting pass?

SO/TO/Comms: Too late. The pirate vessels just passed us.

Helm: We are so screwed. *leans back on his chair*

Hewitt: Are you so sure of that Mr Adams? *sips coffee*

*Suddenly just as the apathetic helmsman leans back one of the pirates scores a solid hit to Wanderer's side, almost directly below the main bridge structure. This causes the entire bridge to shake violently and Jim falls backwards, his head striking the ships deck rather solidly. He is knocked out cold.*

WO: And thus God did proclaim in a loud resounding voice, YES.

SO/TO/Comms: Jim!

Hewitt: *has spilled his coffee* He's fine. And the plan stands... stop being so glum everyone. You are all forgetting one important law of momentum, "Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it." We are still moving. Our main guns will come to bear shortly.

SO/TO/Comms: Ah! Of course!

WO: Holy crap you're right sir.

Hewitt: I'd suggest you recalculate the weapon timings before it's too late.

WO: Y-Yes, yes sir. Right away.

*And so with the large heavy cruiser continuing her lazy cartwheel through space there was still hope yet of delivering the dual knockout punch to the pirates. Both Abby and Jack worked furiously re-running the numbers on the changing trajectories until it got so complicated that Jack eventually gave up and resolved himself to instinct. His first insight got him firing off a suggestion to the captain for power from some unused systems, a wish that was granted. His second involved the pirates possible movements. The pirates could be coming around to make another attack run but then again with weapons equiped with a fancy 360 degree setup, that was not a certainly. He let Abby keep track of their movement. Jack concentrated heavily on his panels numerous target readouts and viewscreens. He was determined not to turn this the "Solaris Manevuer" into a "Valmorrian Stuff Up" despite the one hundred and one things that could go wrong. All that was needed was luck, good luck.*

"Heh."

*With the enemies engines still the main target, Jack fired off the full missile salvo as Wanderer drew horizontal. Though the 100+ missile strong salvo was impressive, Wanderer's real teeth were revealed as the front top deck became visible once again. Becoming animated, the two main triple mounted turrets swiveled around deceptively quickly taking aim along with the four sided mounted laser cannons. Weapons was certainly one area where the captain hadn't skimped on in recent times. With a hope and a prayer Jack began the power up cycle, pumping in as much excess power as he could. The turret gunports began to glow brighter and brighter as the turrets tracked their targets flawlessly. By now the missile groups had almost reached their target. Then with a mighty shunt the deck guns were let loose.*

*It wasn't a matter of aim.*

*It wasn't a matter of power.*

*It was a matter of timing - the weapons needed to hit at exactly the same time if there was to be any chance of complete engine failure for the enemy.*

-----------------------------------------

Summary
General action
- Abby takes on TO duties in absence of Tim (who is hiding out in an escape pod THE COWARD *shakes fist*)
- EO tries to bring thrusters back online
- The original plan is modified to take the new "variables" into account. The ship is allowed to continue it's cartwheel so that the main guns can still be brought to bare. (see below for weapons details)
- excess power is diverted into weapons (see below for power details)

Weapons
- Two missile salvos are fired at the same time, each containing 24 Gravatic missiles and 40 EMP missiles
- This is followed by two more salvos from the main guns each consisting of 2 Photon Cannons, 2 Light Blasters and 1 Light Ion Cannon.

The targets are the engine sections of each enemy ship. Missiles are fired first, then energy weapons are fired so that all weapons impact at the same time. The desired effect is total engine failure on both enemy ships.

Power
- Power is taken from the following systems
Engines
AMD and AFD
Particle Cannon (provided there was power there to begin with)

- This power is put into the ships other energy weapons for increased power

PS - If I die I want to come back as a beast ship.

Another of the Crew takes the helm

Helm - Aye sir calculating variables

another ensign brings you a fresh strong HOT (Note hint hint *glint of EVULNESS* ) cup of coffee which you put to one side

WO - firing solution has been calculated

TO/No1 - I have calculated and added in the variables the computer will need to take over now especially if you need the timing

SO - I concur

you watch on the Holo Display as the manover takes place almost in slow motion ..... but one thing you did not take into account wa that the enemy ships now know what you intend to do and INTERCEPT you in mid manover

You watch in alarm as your Missile Salvo sails harmlessly by

SO - Sir there is somethig funny about those ships - only an avatar can think that fast..... but on a ship that size?????

on screen your weapons fire does have some effect as they all hit home on the rear section of the vessels - however a muderous volley of weapons fire is launched back at the front section of your ship and not one shot misses .....

WO - damn they are good .... very good

former No1 has now ejected the lifepod

No1 - Muwahahahahahahahahahahah I have given them the full specs of your ship - there is no way you will interfere with our plans Capt Hewitt about now the bombs I planted should be going off

KKKKKKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!

the ships bridge goes dark and the gravaity goes off . there is a lot of sparks as control panels explode then there is a scream of such loudness it hurts your ears - the gravity comes back on and you fall to the ground with a thud you try to brace for the imapact but you have floated too high and break both your arms as you fall

your SO is DEAD imapled on a girder that has fallen from the ceiling - you can see deep space where once there was a hull - but the integrtity fields have kicked in but not before some crew tok an impromtu space walk

once more the ships leave you behind and head for the cargo vessels.......

No. 1 – “They will hold quiet soon, they will. Just hang in there for now.”

“So we could use the old style Borg Virus, eh?”

SO – “Aye.”

”Those high tech advanced mother****ers won’t know what hit them.”

SO – “Hopefully. Lt. Commander Kama’s ship appears to be still unable to help, sir, they had to shut down or something to power up the station.”

No. 1 – “But we need them to link to scramble the Chrono Borg vessel...”

SO – “Aye.”

EO – “Fine, we’ll hang on, just get someone elses behind to take all the burning!”

“Will do. Comms, signal the our new arrival and have them join in on our little formation. They’ll take the lead, apologise for that, would you?”

EO – “Thanks sir.”

“Don’t thank me. Redirect all power from our Warp Drives to the shields and boost them as much as you can and reinforce our structural intregity. The current plan might include being pounded on again. Shields, structural intregity, life support, our drives. If this plan works, we might need to fly close to them to dock or board them with a little space hop... Keep us floating.”

EO – “Aye aye.”

Comms – “Sending signal.”

Helm – “And dropping back.”

WO – “Maintaining weapons lock, want to fire some more?”

“Sure do.”

No. 1 – “Shouldn’t give away about our plan too much.”

”Right you are.”

WO – background chatter - “Waiting for new arrival to lead formation... Comms, inform our wingmen to target their forward shields.”

Comms – background chatter – “’kay.”

No. 1 – “If we all have to be linked, we’ll have to wait for Lt. Commander Kama’s vessel to power up again.”

”His station is already powered up, isn’t it?”

SO – “Appears to be so.”

No. 1 – “It sports quite some weapons too.”

”Sure looks like it. Comms, hail the space station, or where-ever that scientist is..”

Comms – “Channel open.”

“*clears throat* Goodmorning lads. Just listen and do, ‘kay? Seems you lot have power and weapons, no? Be kind enough to open up on the Chrono Borg vessel, would you, forward shield section if you can? And my SO came up with an idea to use the old school Borg Virus against them to scramble their systems. We’ll need your ship to be online again and link with the rest of us to send it though. We’ll most likely be floating in the water for some time, but if it works, we should be able to easily capture or destroy that vessel. I’ll have my marines prep themselves. Let me know when you’re ready to link up. And don’t worry, we’ll take most of the punches... Just open up on them in case the virus doesn’t work and we’ll have to do this the old fashioned way.”

Comms – reacting to a wave from Fluffie – “Channel closed.”

No. 1 – “Quite the speech.”

“Aye. Should’ve done politics instead of... captaining, don’t you think?”

No. 1 – “Probably. I’d be a good butler.”

“Right then... MC, you and the boys still here?”

MC – “Are we going… hunting… sir?”

“We are. Ready both companies, it seems these Insectid are a large prey… Heaviest armaments and full packing. This won’t be a tea party.”

MC – “Sir! Will prep the boys.”

“And…”

MC – “Yeah?”

“And ready Winona and my Overwatch Standard Issue, if you will.” *

MC – grinning through the comm-link – “Sir? You sure? Your leg is broken, isn’t it?”

“It is. For now. Won’t be for long. If the doc don’t give me painkillers, get some of those… old… stimulants ready.”

MC – “Sir.”

Fluffie pushes a button in his chair, allowing him to speak ship-wide.

“Medics to the bridge please, immediately.”

No. 1 – “There anything I can say to stop you from going?”

“Not really.”

No. 1 – grins – “Want me to keep your seat warm then, sir?”

Fluffie shakes his head and raises his shoulders innocently while he grins back.

“Last time you did that I had to let it cool down before I could sit down myself...”

No. 1 – sulks playfully –

“But alright. You know the plan...”

No. 1 – “Great minds think alike, do they not? And if one of the two is greater, the other’ll just... improvise.”

Some medics arrive on the bridge, hurrying straight to the Captain’s Chair. Fluffie orders them to put him on a stretcher and carry him to the main airlock, where the rest of the Marines are gathering. As he is being carried away, he quickly barks his last orders. He barks them, for moving is a bit more... uncomfortable than he expected.

“Bridge is yours Warren. I’ll be standing by along with the Marines. As soon as you can dock once the virus knocks their systems and hopefully shields down, do it.”

No. 1 – “Damn right. If not, we’ll do it the old way.”

”Good.”

Fluffie gets carried away on his stretcher. As soon as he arrives down near the airlock where the troops are gathering and arming themselves, the medics give him some painkillers and quickly begin patching up his leg...

Back on the bridge, Warren, the No. 1, heads over to the Captain’s Chair and sits down in it.

Warren – “Lets keep busy. Comms, inform the Police Cruisers of the plan and have them standby to link with us.”

Comms – “Aye sir.”

summary
Fluffie meets with Marines who give him his weapons and gear, while some medics quickly fix his broken leg. (“Stimulants” and loads of painkillers are on standby.)They prepare for boarding.

Fresh Police Cruiser takes up lead position in the formation, The Outsider drops back to get some repairs done. (This means that the two Police Cruisers and the Heavy Cruiser fly in such a formation that the Police Cruisers are covering the Heavy Cruiser.)
The three ship formation begins a new attack run on the Chrono Borg vessel, focussing their weapons fire on the forward section of the hostile vessel.

Both Police Cruisers are informed of the “Virus Plan” and told to stand by to link.
Kama is informed of this plan. Kama is also told to fire on the Chrono Borg.
The Outsider readies itself to link up.

EO focusses repairs on Shields, Structural Intregity, Life Support and Drives.
EO is to redirect all power from the Warp Drives (which were linked to the Reflex Drives before) to the shields, boosting them.

FRODAN SYSTEM
Binary Star System

1 RED GIANT - FRODAN PRIME
1 NEUTRON STAR - FRODAN SECUNDUS

8 Planets - this system was one of the last to be colonised during the flight of the SHRAANIANS once the empire had crumbled - many survivors tried to saty near to Shraan Space others went further afield, as they thought that the C'RAASK would never follow if they went far enough -thus FRODAN was colonised - this is right on the very edge of Shraan Space, so far in fact that it features very little in Shraan history.

FRODAN I - Barren world - nearest the red giant - mined for its mineral wealth - base type V - population 2000

FRODAN II - Barren rock - 6 moons - nothing to report

FRODAN III - Jungle World - 3 moons - starbase type VI - Tech Level - Advanced - this looks like the moon of endor in the STAR WARS films only located thru out the jungle are ECO communitys that use the jungle to its full advantage - planet speciality BIO TECH. Population 1.500.000.000

FRODAN IV - Water World - 6 moons - 64 planetary rings - uninhabited save for the refineries that fuels the ships and homes of the FRODAN also on moon 5 the Ship Yards are located - they can build ships upto Cruiser Size

FRODAN V - Gas Giant - 101 moons

FRODAN VI - Ice Giant - 36 moons - 126 Planetary rings - orbits on its side

FRODAN VII - Gas Giant - 36 moons and a small asteroid field - the reamins of many mining ships are located here, all gutted - but there is a warning beacon as Brigands have made these asteroids their home from time to time

FRODAN VIII - Ice World - more of a small lump of ice and rock as opposed to a planet but it does orbit the Neutron Star

+++++WARNING+++++WARNING+++++WARNING+++++

FTL engines cannot be used within the system ot within 1 light year of the system due to Gravity Well.

On baord AK ship

The bridge crew look stunned as you make your shock anouncment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No1 - wha..wha.....What did you just say?????

No1 - looks at you - You cannot be serious

As you stare back at your No1 - he/she gets the picture

No1 - you heard the Capt stand down

Comms - GASP - Message sent to capt Flapjacks ship sir

Comms - message sent to Capt UQ sir

all thru your ship their is stunned silence as they try to contemplate what they have just heard

the one bonus howvever is that the Asteroid Bases do not fire upon you this time (well for this bit any how) UQ ship seems to be the target this time

EO - repairs being carried out sir ..... I cannot beleive it he is giving up ....

FC - errr ..... all ships in formation

WC - WHAT THE **** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no way we are still covering the ground troops - who has put drugs in his coffee??????

MC - we are on the lower levels now sir - resisrtance is heavy but we are pressing on

sounds of battle can be heard on the comms and also sounds of screams ands weapons fire plus the obligatory explosions.

PART II

As you contemplate the forth comong disaster - you have a flash back to some years ago

Comms - message from Capt UQ ......

you had claimed a planet within the C'raask borders which had housed a massive scale of Kylithium, but you suffered much as your ship was almost torn apart in the fight.

you had attempted the claiming of a key planet of the old Shraanian Empire known as Demai Kank, the land filled with crystal cities and an imense count of strange technologies.

you were forced to retreat after your Concordat, the Liovanda, was torn apart during the battle along with two destroyers and a cruiser. you managed to flee with one cruiser, yet had it decommissioned because it was deemed unfit for further battles.

this brings up the bile from your stomach - YOU HAVE NEVER SURRENDERED and you now think to what your father and his No1 would have said

Finding your second wind as they say you issue a newv set of orders

Comms - message ....

As you begin the crew begin to smile again this is the CID KILLER they know

Comms - message sent sir

No1 - whispers in your ear - Glad to have you back sir

you notice your No1 put the gun he/she had concealed away

Comms - Message sent to Lady Hawk sir

Comms - ????

Comms - message incoming from Lady Hawk sir

see post at end

Flapjacks ship

as per your actions

Uquans ship

Comms - Message sent sir

MC - both the ships are ours sir

your crew cheers as they hear this

No1 - Damn we did it sir - I do not know how but we did it

MC - we are going to need some prize crews over here sir - oh and one thinh they are all as Capt Cid Killers data confims SHRAANIAN sir

FC - all ships are ok sir - those that have survived

Helm - we have come under fire from the 1 remaining asteroid base

SO - scans indicate that Capt Killers forces have taken the other base but have sufferd casulties

Comms - message from Cid Killer Sir you had better hear this in private

you retreat to your ready room where you replay the message over and over for about 5 times - you cannot believe your ears

you storm back to the bridge just in time as a salvo of weapons fire hits your vessle and once more there are no lights and planty of sparks - again there is screaming - after 1 minute the lights come back on and you try to stand - hovwever you find this hard to do as 78% of your leg is by the Helm, yup it has been ..... guess what???? ...... you guessed it severed

despite this minor set back you issue a statement

Comms - message sent to Cid Killer and flapjack sir

MD - here leggy leggy leggy ....... laughing and making all types of legless jokes

you are a little bit miffed!!!!!!

SO and TO - hmmm the plan with the RSA codes could work but we would need to get in real close to transmitt them and when I mean close i mean short range about 1000 meters should suffice

No1 - thats suicidal

WO - hey so what we can do it

Helm - woken up now - Cooo whose is this leg - he is waving it around

the MD is on the floor wetting himself with laughter and just as he calms down he points at your arm and then the leg and laughs even more

the atmosphere on your bridge is aleviated somewhat by your mishap and the MD's laughing

Part II

Comms - look like we got teh old Cid killer back sir

SO - scans indicate his ship is powering up again

No1 - looks like your boyish good looks and overwhelming charm (they dont call you the Sean Bean of the space ways for nothing) have wone him ober sir

MD - is still wetting himself laughing and has now moved on to pirate jokes things about peg legs and the like

SO - looking for the data sir those RSA codes are quite unique but we should be able to find them

MC - THWACK !!!!!! - errrrrr *ahem* ..... ah yes this interigation thing ...... do .... er....... bruises count -

Another marine appears on screen and whispers

MC - What???? .... you mean ..... AAAAAAHHH I see

MC - yes sir he has had an accident and has hurt himslef so we will question the other captain who will most defianetly not be hit by a lead pipe

Comms - message incomeing from Lady Hawk sir ......

Stand down all weapons
Continue to divert firepower from Asteroids away from the Gripstar

Right, I've squeezed in the extra post (#428) although I'm not sure if it has any additional value since we've already been DMed.

Kyra out."

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

Message from Lady Hawk to Capt Cid Killer and Capt Burnham

on screen can be seen a woman in her mid thirtes with an athletic build and long legs - she is about 5ft 9ins tall - she is wearing a form fitting blue jump suit and she wears a red 3/4 length cape. she has long brown hair that is down to her waist and she has peircing green eyes.

she is most definately a pure blood Shraanian - her uniform displays the rank of Admiral in the old Shraan Space Navy (SSN)

Lady Hawk - Greetings Captains you have passed my little test - you have succesfully navigated the trap i have laid and also overcome the odds that i set out before you.

Capt Burnham you will find that the RSA codes are out of date - to try to take over the destroyers at my command would be foolish.

I am not here to kill you or even to fall into your hands

I am here because of the reputation of former Admiral Cid Killer.

Yes you heard me right.

I had to arrange a mission that i know only you would take and maybe one or two others - to do this i had to make it worth your while.

Let me be clear on this - the ships you have taken and the bases are yours, this was afterall part of the mission

What I propose is this - I too want to see the SHRAANIAN EMPIRE restored and I was shocked when i read of the demotion of yourself and the destruction of the last remaining Shraanian Concordat.

i feel the current Shraanian goverment is too weak and feeble to be of any effect - what i propose gentalmen is the overthrow of the current goverment - CIVIL WAR and to restore the true SHRAANIANS to the proper place.

not with myself as the leader but with YOU CAPT KILLER

YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WITH THE VISION TO RESTORE THE SHRAANIANS BACK TO THEIR FORMER GLORY.

WHAT DO YOU SAY????????????????

LETS WIPE OUT THOSE WHO STAND IN OPUR WAY AND THEN DEAL WITH THE CR AASK ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Re: Andromeda Pirates - The Succession Wars

thanks for the help + advice all. i think i'll stear clear of playing, prefer more interactive type things and i'm not overly keen on combat oriented rpgs either(and i'd hate to try and deprive LH of chances to shoot at me... i can see that making her tetchy ), prefer more shadowrun style things.

again, thanks
