Not bothered.
Good for England for having a tactical genius but language barrier may be an issue.

I'm quite pleased. My personal ranking was O'Neill, Scolari, McClaren and then God Helpus so I'm not going to be crying myself to sleep at night over it.

Personally I thought Hiddink was the best choice but out of the 5 remaining candidates I reckon Scholari is the best choice.

Re: [Football] So It Looks Like It's Scolari Then
At least Mclaren etc will be able to concentrate on club football and not have all the "will I won't I" stuff hanging over them. It's interesting they chose the only non englishman in the shortlist, but tbh he seems a far better coach than Sven, so it should be good - even if he's not really coached any of the players before. I bet Mclaren will still be hanging around to provide some continunity though :P

means Martin O'Neill can come to sunderland
I'd have gone for Big Sam personally... he was never going to get it tho as i doubt his face would fit in at the FA.

I know who I'd prefer!
[edit]
Bear in mind that, before Big Phil took over, Brazil were floundering, in danger of not qualifying for the world cup for the first time in their history. That they're now regarded as by far the best attacking force in the world is in no small part due to Scolari advancing the youngsters, like the then obscure Ronaldinho.

all top managers moan about the referees mate, its part of the footballing culture in this country.
As for Sam, i think he can only really play one style with bolton considering the budget they have.
I cant imagine Sam shaping the england team into his bolton forumla.
As for Scolari, i think he had a good tournament to be in charge of brazil, with the majority of european teams struggling to adapt to the climate

Re: [Football] So It Looks Like It's Scolari Then
Im genuinely ecstatic that the FA have single handedly kept an army of nationalistic sports writers in their job for another 4 years, and theyve FA chance of winning anything under this foreign mercenary coach who couldnt give a shit about generating passion among fans or players, he just wants to play defensive minded bollocks and hope his underperforming creative players can do something up front.
If you want an idea of how much the press are going to love/hate this guy, take a look at how the Brazilian press reacted to his defensive tactics in the build up to the 2002 WC.
Maybe his style will suit British players. Who knows.

Look how they reacted to him winning the World Cup, and of course they were only there in the first place thanks to him. Look how the portuguese reacted to him taking them to their first final.
Also, for defensive, boring tactics, managing to average 3 goals a game at the world cup aint bad. Hey, but it's a great manager for England, and you're scottish :v:

i like the way some people are saying Scolari's boring...
look at the other options - Allardyce, Mclaren, Curbishley, O'Neill...
Their teams are hardly exciting are they?

Re: [Football] So It Looks Like It's Scolari Then
the idea that brazil were ever seriously not going to qualify for the WC is media hype, and ludicrous.
"he steered them to the WC with 3 wins from his last 5 games" - holy shit, 3 wins from 5? With brazil? Thats like, impossible!
Hes a very good manager, no doubt. I just thought the engerlish might have had enough of another foreigner running what is supposed to be such a nationalistic pasttime.

But all the English managers are shit.
Or at least not world class.
None of the top 5 teams in the Premiership have an English manager.
It's over 10 years since any of Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool or Chelsea had an English manager (1995 Roy Evans).
Why should we limit ourselves to a sub-world-class-standard manager if we don't have to?

Although I should say that a lot of football fans seem to be retards, based on what I've been hearing. I heard Ian Wright say on the morning news something along the lines of "I'd rather watch us drift in the wilderness for years under an English manager than win the world cup with a foreigner", which is irrational to the point of actually being spastic. A lot of plebs also seem to be saying much the same thing.
I suppose this is why I'm not a football fan. I mean apart from the racism, violence, hooliganism, homophobia and all that, of course.

i think its quite hard to be a quiet enjoyer of football and make yourself heard, which is why the 'tards' are more vocal.
it's a shame that the media gives a larger audience to spastics in generally really.

3 wins from 5 was above average for Brazil in qualifying (their record beforehand was 6-3-4). Brazil beat two of the teams above them, and if they had failed to win even ONE of the matches they won, they would not have qualified. Scolari also kicked out the names that weren't performing.
But obviously being one game away from elimination in a league of 18 games is utterly safe, and anyone who suggests otherwise is causing a blight on humanity and should be tried for treason.

Every time I've seen a poll, it's been wildly in favour of one of the "good" (ie non english) managers. However, most media outlets are ignoring this, and claiming that the vast majority of people are small minded racists who know nothing about football.

These English managers who think they have some divine right to the job should leave their clubs and manage minor foreign national teams* first. If they perform beyond expectations, then they can be considered as England candidates.

Scotland and Wales are the perfect nations for a trainee England manager to manage. If he makes a good job of it, go him. They're nice and minor, not too important.

I won at pool anyway. Yet another humiliation heaped on the Welsh, ranked right up there with the appointment of John Redwood as Secretary of State for Wales.

Re: [Football] So It Looks Like It's Scolari Then
My prediction is that he will take the job but only until after portugal have been knocked out of the WC, however he will probably have a gentlemans agreement with the FA until that point. This is because of the gentlemans agreement with the portugese FA prohibiting him to strike a deal until after the WC. We will see. But please no shit curbishley or mclaren to try and make up for it.
