[Discuss] Reporting defence
After reading this thread I wondered about the idea of making the ingame defence system more useful.
What about the ability to report incomings to that system ingame? Your galaxy mate has incoming, and you click say on his co-ordinates on the galaxy status screen, it opens up a mail-type window with the target hidden, and you can input the incoming and any scans done / other information, which is then sent to the alliance mail inbox (or added to some sort of list in an officer screen). It'd keep the alliance's privacy, and with the information there it might mean more alliances would use the ingame option, especially new players who don't use IRC so much

Re: Reporting defence
Ive suggested something familiar. A button that says "report incommings" on galstatus.
The MoW should be the only one able to do this, and by pushing it, it would automatically send a mail to the alliance of the planet with incs. Gives the MoW some meaning, and having an acitve MoW(GC) some meaning.

Edit: This mail should go directly to the DC inbox ingame, which would have to be added.

Re: Reporting defence
Only really useful if it makes it really obvious theres a defence call to the alliance. As it is its just so easy to ignore the defence page until its too late

Re: Reporting defence
yes, obviously there'd have to be an added notification for the officers with access to the mail box, and perhaps one for members when there's a current attack/defence up

Re: Reporting defence
Just add the red line in the Alliance page like where it says "Your Alliance Has a Scheduled Attack" except it says "A Member of Your Alliance Has Incoming."

Re: Reporting defence
I meant sort of, on every page (or at least Overview) not the Alliance section

Re: Reporting defence
Too few alliances use the in-game alliance tools to make this a good idea. Most use their own external tools, and unless you want to go down the disasterous route of forcing alliances to use the in-game stuff, then this needs to be a rejected.

Re: Reporting defence
But they don't use them because their tools are better and more convenient. If it gives the ability for the alliance to hide who they are (no common defence channels to look for, etc) then it's down to news scanning people who gave their identity away
A lot of alliances, especially smaller ones, would get a security boost
(you could change it so that if you weren't in an alliance it'd just mail the planet with incoming, to hide allianceless people).

Re: Reporting defence
If there was a way to pamail the alliance of a planet informing them they had incs without giving away the name of the alliance it might be interesting...

And now i start wondering...
How could a DC reply "Are there any ingal fleet available? I have <calc> and need just <y> more of <z> to really cover it"

Re: [Discuss] Reporting defence
Not many DC's ask that, or atleast the ones i reported to for the last couple of rds have...maybe i just get the nub DC's
I like the idea though, would be interesting, but the big problem is getting the DC's to notice it as on irc you can be noticed and you are notified as soon as a inc is reported, but if you dont check ingame every 5 minutes then it would be hard to keep track..

Clearly - although the fun we had this round meant that I was often begging for in-gal defence to preserve our ships

DCs tend to be adaptable. At the beginning of R13, after being away for a round, i kept sending defence to the attacking planet (oops! ) - you soon learn how to interpret the information that is presented to you.
Similarly, DCs would similtaneously refresh their alliance Fleet Control page, check their IRC channel(s) for incoming, and also refresh the in-game page. This would especially be the case should the page be well designed and updates itself (ie, ETAs counting down etc).
It would just be part of the routine.
