Re: Round 35 Predictions

So much talk is based around App/Asc in these prediction threads, I wonder if anyone has really thought this out. With me at ODDR's helm, surely ODDR will be a contender for top spot.

I predict that people will make 'joke predictions' and expect somebody to find them funny.

In other news, I predict I will late start and get mauled, forcing me to quit 'due to real life'.

To be honest, although this round makes that look like a good idea, it's usually pretty variable. A round like r32 (or pretty much every round from 20-27 bar the exi round) could easily have gone on for longer than the scheduled time without becoming totally boring due to the fact everything was completely sewn up after the first month. This round could have been ended after 3 weeks though in fairness. On top of that the people who actually pay for credits would get pretty ass raped if you just took 2 weeks off the round length (you can get around that however).

Personally I'd change as many things as possible and just see what happens. Random gals + multi-targeting + divide the universe into 5 clusters and reintroduce the in-c attack and def bonuses + a couple of the research tree changes would be pretty cool.

In "that other game", the admins just let rounds run until a clear winner had emerged. While that of course regularly led to an abundance of accusations of (inevitably misperceived) bias, it does prevent rounds from ending up like this one, or like r27.

Re: Round 35 Predictions

Ending the round if post tick 300 one alliance has a 30%+ score lead and held it for 5 days or something would be acceptable and fairly objective. A simple most people think the round is over would have deprived us of rounds like r26 which were pretty cool.

That said, that wouldn't even include this round so far heh.

Re: Round 35 Predictions

20% should be enough, if they have to hold on to that lead for 5 straight days. If you want to prevent round from going on too long (which, from a commercial point of view, you kind of do), you could add a maximum round length (say, 11 weeks) alongside that.

On a sidenote, why not let rounds end before tick 300? Seems like an interesting strategic element to have in the game.

Personally I'd change as many things as possible and just see what happens. Random gals + multi-targeting + divide the universe into 5 clusters and reintroduce the in-c attack and def bonuses + a couple of the research tree changes would be pretty cool.
I was hoping he meant something for us as players, a slew to do anew, without needing anything from PA team. But certainly I'd welcome any and all new changes, even just for the novelty and having to put some creative thought into the game for a change. It just seems pretty hopeless for all but the most conservative of changes.

There are more reasons people play PA than for ally rankings. At least without making other changes as well (tag size immediately jumps to mind), this seems "unfair" to the majority of players. It's sad, but that's what PA is nowadays. We really need to get it integrated with facebook....

Yeah, but having a 5 week round could make going for xp a viable choice for a top ranking(for example). I dont really care that much about ally rankings, and after 5-6 weeks it gets horribly difficult to land attacks.

It's rather difficult to think of something genuinely new to do just as players at this point (believe me I've tried). We could try something weird like see if everyone would agree to 20 man tags max (with everyone co-operating against people who break that limit). Bar that I can't really think of much that doesn't need something from pateam.

I'd agree that the alliance rankings are a fairly minimal part of pa for most people now (although I do believe this is mainly due to the level of effort involved in competing for it and as such it could change back a bit next round depending on the political face of things). Rounds like this one, and last one, just seemed to be about preventing one alliance/two alliances from dominating for 4 weeks of the round. Maybe we could abolish alliance rankings again!

Re: Round 35 Predictions

/me thinks cutting down on the number of ships + retune stats or revert to multi-targeting + official diplomas / miniature spaceships to 5 winners in different categories + ingame IM-feature (no, not irc, just a live user-to-user-im-thing) + referral-bonus and referral competition with proper prize + cleanup of the overview-page + in-cluster a+d bonus + pick up some alliance-features from games like WoW etc to make the life inside an alliance more interesting) seems like a good idea, at the time anyway, for starters.

Stop reading PA suggestions forums, that's stuff we are preaching since ages now. ;-)

Didn't you use to hand out PA-mugs/tshirts/etc to the winners back in the days?

"King of the Hill" style - whenever one alliance has held the top position for 336 ticks (2 weeks), the round ends (with a countdown timer starting 2 days in advance so noone is caught off guard).

Personally a round can't keep my interest for longer than ~4 weeks, after that I can barely be arsed to attack anymore. I think it has mostly to do with the shipstats; everything's been said and done in those 4 weeks, and at that point I'm just waiting for next round's stats so I can play with those.

To be honest, I dont remember. I do remember sending out such things to speedgame-winners but I dont recall whether we had prizes sent out to winners of regular rounds.

only if the price is lowered. I personally wouldn't pay £5 for 12 days of gameplay

isnt that the point though, you'd try to prevent this from happening, there would be alot of fluid politics!
