The Crystal of Mylopia

Planet Mylopia.

837AD A world of humans, elves and orcs living together and yet apart. A world of swords and magic.

The order of the crystal gathers every fifty years in their secret santuary to discuss ways to keep the crystal secret from the world. The crystal....the one thing in this world that keeps mages both safe and yet can be their destruction. But this time the meeting has been called early. Rumors have begun spreading throughout the world. The greedy, the power hungry, the cruel have placed their interest in finding out if the legends are true. The rumors about the ability of the crystal has changed over the years, but one thing stays constant: It is the key to ruling the world. Only the order knows it's true power, but that does not stop the seekers.

The Order gathers in their secreat santuary, deep in the depths of a forest beyond a mountain range, hidden by magic and seclusion. Few venture into the area for reasons beyond business for the Order, but one with knowledge has betrayed his trust and people now know where the Order is located...and they know the crystal will be with them.

Rumors have begun to abound about the location of the order. Many have already ventured into the mountains never to be seen from again. Some believe they have been lost to their own stupidity. Others believe this is just confirmation that the Order resides there, ever a more dangerous threat. An human village and an elven village around thirty miles from the mountain range have grown from the Orders presence. Many followers and believers have come to reside in these villages over the years, but now a new crowd has begun to move in, biding their time and plotting how to take on the Order and get the crystal for themselves.

3534 AD: A world of two races. The Myops and the Plorbians. A world of technology and psychic abilities.
The average age of Myops is 400. The average age of Plorbian is 150. Myops and Plorbian are the result of about a thousand years of interbeeding once most the race barriers broke down. Myops are the result of human, elf, and orcs intermixing. The average Myop is about 5'10". The human and elven characteristics are more dominant resulting in longer lives, usually very attractive by human standards, and the ability to use the psyhic powers. Plorbians are the result of orc and human intermixing. Plorbians are on average 6'5", stronger, but less intelligent, the human qualities blended with the orc unattractiveness to make the average Plorbian good looking by human standards. There are a few small groups on the world who believed in race purity and still are elven, human, or orc.

The world has greatly changed in many ways, and yet has stayed the same in so many ways. The descendents of the order still exist. The order continues to meet, however the location of the crystal was lost long ago. The last record of it's existance is from 923 at the same time as a huge uprising. It is unsure whether the crystal still exists or it was destroyed but that too has been lost to the ages. Mages have disappeared from the world, however psychics took their place. A different form of magic. The order continues to search for the crystal to protect it or confirm its destruction. Those searching for power have not given up either..

In a lair high in the mountains, the Order of the Crystal plots around their newest discovery: time travel.......If they can't find the crystal now, they'll get it when it definately exists.

Thanks to Heur the opposition is well aware of the time travel ability. Together they plot a raid on the Orders secret lair in an attempt to claim the technology for their own. And failing that, beat them to the crystal in the past.

Feel free to post intro posts if you can, if not i'll give you something to work with in a day or two. I'm giving a lot of freedom, so feel free to be creative. You know what you need of the world. The future is technology, the past is medieval fantasy like, just go with your character history. Some character need to interact, others don't. That's up to your interpretation. The start for the future is the plotting to go back in time/ the plotting about the raid. The past is hearing about the growing threat to the Order/ finding out the Order's location from rumors or informats or stirring up trouble in one of the villages. Feel free to create NPCs as needed. I'll jump in when necessary.

Characters are posted in the next post.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Weal enters the court of the Order briskly. This was the first time he had been unable to catch his target and he didn't like the idea of reporting failure. No, it wasn't failure. This target was just setting a new record amongst Weal's other captures. He was obviously more skilled than your every day run of the mill bounty. The thought of persuing such a target filled Weal with such motivation to capture Heur that reporting to the council seemed like a waste of time. Heur was planning on going on a time traveling joyride to the past to obtain the fabled crystal. Whether or not he obtained it was not the issue, but the fact that trying to hunt Heur through time would be a challenge Weal had never faced in his prey before. Quickly he finds himself facing the council who had hired him for the job.

Zaldan always looks so funny. So short. And you know what they say about redheads. Not to mention psychics, always reading your mi....

Weal coughs suddenly, then bows before Zaldan to make up for any perceived lack of respect.

"I come with news sir. If you remember you sent me to hunt down Heur after his betrayal, and though I was not able to catch him, I found out more of his plan. According to, uh, informants I "questioned", he is planning on using the newely developed time travel technology to get the crystal from the past. From uh....."

Weal fumbles through his pockets and pulls out a crumpled piece of paper.

"837AD to be exact. I've never failed to collect a bounty and I don't mean to start now. Help me get to where he's going, and you'll have him locked up before dinner gets cold."

His yellow eyes narrow seriously as he makes this claim, although he honestly feels it may have been a bit of an embellishment. After all, he hadn't caught Heur YET. A few of the council members whisper amongst themselves and he awaits their response.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Fluffie
A lowly member of the Order shuffles slowly and warily toward Faetwin’s chamber. His hands shaking, almost dropping the scroll he holds. Cursing himself for his bad luck for having to deliver the letter. No one ever wanted to deliver news to Faetwin, especially when it was bad new and he KNEW this was bad. He had been hearing the rumors himself and even overheard higher order members talking. The scroll he held was just going to confirm that a gathering against the Order was forming, a big gathering
Taking a deep breath he knocks lightly at the door, bracing himself for the response.

Bakan:
Your daily duties often require you to wander the grounds and halls of the Order’s sanctuary making sure your troops are in line. They are usually a disciplined group but now and then you have to check up on them, even more recently as the rumors are becoming more abundant. There is far to many loose tongues worrying about an imminent danger of invasion from outside forces. You especially have to keep an eye on the new ones. Despite the intensive interview process and training a traitor could always slip into the ranks. Ahead you spot two of your more seasoned soldiers looking less than focused on their post and more on their conversation.

Hewitt, Richard P, Nakartai:
Each of you desires the crystal for your own reasons. Following rumors you have traveled from your respective homes to the two villages nearest to the believed realm of the Order of the Crystal. It’s up to you which of the villages to enter, the human or the elven. The human village is about 10 miles closer to the mountain range and contains many more obsessively devoted followers of the Order whether official followers or not. The elven village contains followers as well but not as many, at least not as many obvious followers. Both are typical medieval fantasy villages with human or elven aspects, except for an almost cult feeling coming from the human village.

Zappa:
See Huracan’s post. You hired Weal a few years ago to track Heur. You want him found, preferable alive so you can discover the damage he has done in his absence, but if all else fails your are fine with him dead. Heur has very recently returned from his complete disappearance and Weal has come to report to you about his recent discovery, that Heur knew more than you thought about the time travel technology.

Vicotnik / Gen Eath & Darkling
Now that you have returned from your seclusion, you have been attempting to create temporary allies to help with the raid on the Order’s sanctuary to use their time travel ability for yourself. Two of your more prominent allies are Gesadia and Slaidonar.
One of you three feel free to introduce a meeting in a location of your choice with a few other NPC allies to discuss the upcoming raid on the Order’s sanctuary.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

"Enter."

The sound of Fluff's voice was old, a bit tired and mostly annoyed. Another had decided to disturb him in his study. Once again, he was looking through the old and new descriptions, books and scrolls of the Crystal. There was always more to be learned and maybe he had missed something in his earlier inquiries. Maybe he had even forgotten something. He was old and slowly starting to feel like it to, all too well realising his old mind wasn't as sharp as in the days long gone. Sighing, he puts a small strip of paper on the page he was reading, loudly shuts close the book and shifts in his seat, looking at the door as it opened, wondering who it'd be now. He sure as hell hoped it wouldn't be something unworthy of his time. Always assuming people would know better than to disturb him unless it was important - this assumption had been proven wrong time and time again.

[Do I now have to DM the messenger as well? Dunno. Say yes or no and then we'll post accordingly, hurray!]

[ooc: Let's work out the knicks and dust from these skill, yay!]

*Walking through the grounds, Bakan nodded as he saw several of the newer recruits at attention, looking vilagent in their duties. Lately a lot of the guards seem to have been loosing focus, getting distracted. It was slowely becoming more annoying, and while a strong word from him would straighten them out quickly enough for a while, eventually it would fade away and he would be right back where he started with them. It was his hope that there were no traitors in the batch, but that was another worry.*

*Entering one of the halls, Bakan sees two of his more seasoned soldiers not paying attention so much, to the point where he was able to walk into the hall without them noticing. Raising an eyebrow, he loudly cleared his throat. It got the desired effect, for the two guards suddenly straighted up.*

"Do you two have something you wish to share with me?"

One of you three feel free to introduce a meeting in a location of your choice with a few other NPC allies to discuss the upcoming raid on the Order’s sanctuary.
It was dank and rancid in the room, some room somewhere on some backwater archaic colony, ignored or forgotten by most. For some reason the smell reminded Slaidonar of death, as though dark beginnings where barely visible on the horizon, scowling impatiently at the silence.
“I might as well come late, what’s the point of being punctual if some of the others decided to show up when they want. And who decided on this location anyway secrecy is one thing, but it took me a while to even find coordinates for this place”
Making sure to make his point heard amongst those who had shown up on time, hearing nothing but quiet mummers in response. Flexing his arm a few times looking down at his holstered mace with a sigh, thinking back on the times when he there was no secret meetings or mistrust following his every wake. Looking back up to the surroundings of the room, guessing it to be some quick build housing unit just left to bask in the twin suns of the planet, wiping the sweat away from his forehead with his sleeve, matching the impatient look of everyone else attended right now.

ooc – okay I have given the setting but someone else can provide the npc’s, whether they are ones who turn up late or you are is up to you.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Gesadia walked into the foul smelling room, irritated that it had been so far from home, offworld even. She pulled her loose fitting simple cloak around her and drew down the hood a little more, covering her very human features somewhat. There was no shame in the movement. Gesadia felt more pride at being human than most humans, even the purists. Instead, she wished to draw as little attention to herself as possible, lest the filthy mutts of beings around her noticed she was pure.

the scum, she thought to herself. They don't even realize their genes are tainted. It makes me sick.

Barely hiding a sneer, she took her seat, removing her staff weapon from her back and gently resting it beside her on the ground. As much as she despised the creatures around her, she neither felt threatened by them nor feared them. In any case, if one of the beasts made a move towards her, the small knife in her belt should suffice at a quick disposal, enough time to retrieve her beloved staff. Leaning forward, she rubbed her vivid green eyes with the balls of her slight but tough hands, letting several strands of her long dark hair fall in front of her face. Her trip was a long one, with little time to rest. She had gotten word of the meeting place only a few hours before the departure. She remembered her excitement at the possibility of finally beholding the crystal for which she was destined.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a tall muscular human with metallic armor entering the room, announcing himself.

“I might as well come late, what’s the point of being punctual if some of the others decided to show up when they want. And who decided on this location anyway secrecy is one thing, but it took me a while to even find coordinates for this place”

She smiled to herself. That must be Slaidonar, one of the only other pure bloods present. She flashed a quick smile at him and motioned towards the seat nearest herself. It would be helpful if she could trust someone.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Taking one of the more sturdy looking seats, sitting next to the only other human present showing disinterest in the others right now, Slaidonar mood would most likely get more fowl before this was finished with. Leaning back leisurely in his seat, the chair creaking a little under his weight, taking another quick glance around the room somewhat disappointed by the overall turnout this time, running the idea through his head a few moments.
“Don’t suppose anyone knows what this is about, I had to drop a sizable contract to appear here last minute. A Guy has to make a living at the end of the day I have expenses, however long that may be here”
Slaidonar speaking to anyone who would listen whilst he sorted his thoughts out, this must be an important meeting to call only a select few all this way.

Fluffie:
The young man hesitates outside the door and reluctantly reaches for the latch. His nerves so on edge, he fumbles badly, tripping over his feet and almost dropping the scroll in the process. Trying to catch himself, he slams into the now open door, which swings open quickly in response to his weight.
Regaining his balance, he looks at Faetwin, dropping his eyes quickly, his cheeks red with embarrassment.
“S…Sir…I…I..I……was ordered to give you this.” The last words jumbling together as he thrusts out the hand carrying the scroll.

ooc/ Fluffie, feel free to take over control of the NPC and create any other NPCs you’d like. The main point is you’re being altered of the danger or an impending raid, worse than the few lone “heroes” the Order has dealt with in the past, whenever it might come. Bakan will not be aware of this confirmation of threat as of yet as you’re higher up than him, even with his position, as the Order is very secretive./ooc

Bakan:
The older of the two continues to stare ahead in military fashion but responds to you.
“No sir, I mean yes sir. We were wondering if you’ve heard the rumors about an attack, Sir?

ooc/ You are welcome to take over your NPCs too, you know what they’re going on about./ooc

Hewitt, Richard P, Nakartai (repost):
Each of you desires the crystal for your own reasons. Following rumors you have traveled from your respective homes to the two villages nearest to the believed realm of the Order of the Crystal. It’s up to you which of the villages to enter, the human or the elven. The human village is about 10 miles closer to the mountain range and contains many more obsessively devoted followers of the Order whether official followers or not. The elven village contains followers as well but not as many, at least not as many obvious followers. Both are typical medieval fantasy villages with human or elven aspects, except for an almost cult feeling coming from the human village.

Vicotnik / Gen Eath & Darkling
Leaving it to you for now.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Elek narrowed his eyes at the sign in front of him. Good, it was the human village. He would probably be recognised for what he was instantly by those cursed elves and their senses. These dimwits would be too thick to notice him at once, like his stupid mother, falling for the pretty lights of his father’s magic, too thick to see the consequences of their ‘love’.

‘Anyway’ Elek thought, ‘humans are less intrusive. They are at least more likely to leave me alone as long as I leave them alone.’

He made sure the hood of his robe covered his face, straightened to his full height, and walked through the gates, leaning on his staff. As he walked he glanced from side to side, surveying the town, searching for an inn or tavern. A glimpse between two buildings showed him the outline of the cemetery, in front of the rising sun, and he made sure to memorise the location in case the need were to arise. And if he were able to acquire the crystal then it would provide a very useful resource.

Finally about 200 meters into the village he saw a sign which read simply, Crystal Inn. He sneered in the shadows of his hood, how predictable, no imagination, no wonder they could never accept him. Elek pushed a lock of dark brown hair from his eye, pulled his hood further over his face, and set out for the inn.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Nelilandra looks out over the village with a smile that on any other face would be called a smirk, but on hers merely looks mildly playful. There is nothing amusing to be found with the view; unless one finds the very concept of a zealot naming his inn after the all-powerful artefact of a supposedly secret order to be hilarious.

Ok, maybe it is funny.

Stupid humans.

Not that Nelilandra has anything against humans; in fact she rather likes them. In much the same way that a wolf 'rather likes' sheep, or a blacksmith 'rather likes' anvils. In fact, 'sheep' seems a wonderful description of the person she met earlier today.

Rodderick Shardson was his name apparently, but by the time he'd managed to drink his way into unconsciousness he had been insisting that she call him 'Wod' for the best side of an hour, and had been pledging his undying loyalty to her for almost half of that. Over the course of the rather tedious and one sided conversation it turned out he was the grandson of one of the village elders and was allegedly 'deshtined' for great things.

It's almost a shame he didn't have anything useful to say about these 'great things' he was destined for, or have any useful talents he might achieve them with; but his purse was fat and would nicely cover the cost of her room for a few days.

Of more interest were the scattered glimpses into other conversations at the bar, mostly concerning how annoying the loud mouth in the corner was, but one in particular caught her attention.

"Another two this week."
"Eh?"
"Lost in the mountains."
"Ah… 'lost'."

Just an single exchange between two aging men at a fireplace, that wouldn't have been heard by anyone with mere human hearing; but for her it's that little bit of extra evidence that she's found the right place to start.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Seeing Slaidonar growing bored and grumpy turned Gesadia off to the thought of simple conversation, but she was comforted by the human presence nearby. Drifting into herself, she was interrupted in her thoughts by a hard shove from the back, Casually turning and looking up, with an obvious look of distaste was a stocky little creature, of Plorbian descent, sneering down at her.

'You! We don't need any of your kind on a mission like this! We can't trust you humans. Why don't you get out of here, before I make you."

Grimacing at Gesadia, he leaned in menacingly, resting a heavy hand on the back of her chair.

Sighing, Gesadia quickly spun the chair, knocking his arm out from under him, and in the same motion, kicked him hard in the shin. The combination of kick and loss of balance, knocked him on his chin on the tables edge, leaving him in an unconcious pile on the floor. The volume of the room dropped noticably as this took place, and many eyes were fixed on Gesadia. Seeing this she thought fast.

"Trust me or not, I will be there when we reach the crystal. Do not forget this."

As the eyes slowly turned away, accepting her statement, she toed the lump of a creature aside and resumed her contemplations, waiting for Heur, who knew the specifics of the time travel ability, to arrive

I am aware of his plans, bountyhunter... yet he has still to reach our stronghold, and he has still to make use of our technology... I have yet to sence a disturbance in the web of time and space. I would suggest you find and subdue your target before he gets a chance to move trough time...

closing his eyes, Zaldan concentrates on the surroundings, checking the security database and the psychic barriers that have been placed around the newly created timeportal, so far, the only one on the planet

Use this... it is a linkingdevice which will allow you to contact me trough tought wherever you are on our planet (if you contact me with this, do it over pm to both me and dm perhaps?) I too shall send you updates trough this device, as soon as I notice something, or hear from my other agents.

*tosses a thin, long and sharpedged metal rod at Weal*

I trust you know how to install it... now go...

oh, and one more thing... be carefull... this target is not like any you've ever hunted before... don't let him hunt you

with that, Zaldan stands up, and leaves the meeting room

the hunter is overconfident... I fear he shall fail... perhaps I should hire some others to aid him...

Unabashedly, Weal installs the linking device on the spot. He didn't like the idea of someone being able to keep tabs on him at all times, but realized that at the very least this would give him an extra set of eyes. After all, if Heur happened to be spotted by Zaldan before Weal himself, however unlikely it seemed, the device would let him know. As something occurs to Weal, he tests the devices abilities.

*Bakan smiles a little hearing his two guards talking about the upcoming "attack". So far the security of the facility was intact, with no intrusions or hints of it. Still it was good to be on guard, which was something these two guards were sorely lacking in at the moment.*

"Of course I heard of this upcoming "attack". And you know what, we should prepare for it! You two, snap drill, I want a full checkin with all the guards in the next ten minutes, then you two start a search for any intruders as if we had a breach in security. I'll be observing you, now GO!"

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Heur was late, he knew he was late, he was always late. Small driplets of sweat started to form on his forehead as he rushed down the narrow alley. Darkness was falling and automatically his eyesight was complimented with the eyesight of his followers, two pureblood elves. They were his latest aquisition, puppets in the quest he had set before himself. Soon he would get his revenge, and their filthy filthy lies would be exposed! He turned a corner and spotted the building, easing up, he slowed, almost to a halt and tried to control his breath and facial colour. Drawing a deep breath he pushed the door open and strode in, flanked by the elves.

Within was his future, his only possibility to expose the false order of the crystal. His allies and henchmen and they looked...

Pathetic!

Almost unable to control his feelings, leaking fear, hate and distrust heur marched into the middle of the room and turned toward the unconcious man on the floor. reaching into his brain he woke him with sharp, blinding pain. Then he turned his attention to the creatures sitting in a oval shape surrounding him.

"So...you came! Blessed are we! We are going to create a new world order, punish the traitors to our society and shine a light over their crimes"

Looking up at the sudden sounds of someone entering, rubbing his palm in an odd manner before clenching his fingers shut. Spotting the tardy leader and some scrawny elves enter in a manner more befitting a common thug than an elf, spotting a weakness in their stances within seconds.
“Took your sweet time about it, I was hardly on time myself and beat you here”
Slaidonar keeping his tone neutral as words purposely left his mouth, his gaze lingering on the one who had put this little faction with distain. His madness made itself clear most of the time, trying to gauge what type of meeting this one would be.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Fluffie snaps the scroll out of the deliverer's hands, beckoning him to go close the door and stand ready for possible orders. Looking to make sure his commands were obeyed: with the youth these days, discipline was a necessity more than ever. Rolling the scroll open, he starts reading - growing constantly more irritated and annoyed, with a slight touch of anxiousness. The Order had fended off these would-be heroes before, but this seemed... larger and worse.

"Insolent fools!" he muttered to himself. Those fools would do everything for anything that'd bring them glory or power, without taking care of the world or thinking about consequences. Unlike the Order and himself, they knew nothing. They were unfit and if it were up to Fluffie, he'd keep it that way.

"You." He had shifted his gaze, looking up from the scroll into the young man's eyes. "Bring me whoever's in command of the guards."

"Yes.. yes sir."

The young man stepped out and carefully - thus slowly - closed the door.

"AND MAKE IT FAST." Fluffie snarled after him, not at all impressed or happy with the pace of closing the door.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

From everything he had learned about Heur during his pursuit, Weal knew he would come. Knowing your prey's motivation was a big part of the hunt after all. Just as the ancient hunters would wait for deer near the fields of grazing or the water holes, Weal knew the hunger Heur had, and thus, had the upper hand. Outside the complex, Weal begins searching for a position where he will have a good vantage point to watch for Heur and keep his eye on the complex nearby.

Smirking discreetly as he felt a tug at his mind, knowing full well what it meant, letting the moment pass whilst listening to their leader speak. Considering some of the words with an obvious scowl.
“The worlds will never be truly free as long as someone rules, whether for the better or worst. So lets just drop the pretence and say we are all here for selfish reasons, the sooner that we are all honest with ourselves the better this crusade will go for us”
Slaidonar looked around whilst speaking gauging everyone’s reactions to his words before he continued his speech
“That aside what’s the plan? And how much intelligence do we have to help in the recon and assault?”

DM 3:
Bakan: See Fluffie’s post # 21. Keep in mind Richard’s post making reference to a couple more people lost in the mountains. Your scouts may have found them.

Fluffie: waiting on Bakan.

[IV-CL]Zappa : A little after Weal has left, a middle aged Myopian named Ryall approaches you. He has only minimal psychic ability, but he’s a well known and respected member of the order for his special skills: preservation, restoration, and deciphering of ancient works. He and his team have been hard at work recreating the computer records of ancient documents that Heur destroyed upon leaving. The documents that stated exactly where and when the crystal was last seen.

“Sir, I have come to report on the status of our restoration of the records. They were badly aged and damaged but we have managed to retrieve 99% of our original database. We should have the rest finished within the week.”

Ryall waits expectantly for a response, a smile creeping onto the corner of his lips, unable to contain his pride.

Hewitt: Are you joining or not?

RichardP: A serving girl realizes you are a new arrival and heads toward you, stopping for moment to avoid a young man being removed from the inn for excessive drunken behavior.

“Ello….miss, can I get anything for you?”

Nakartai: As you approach the inn, you hear much life coming from the inn. It’s a popular location for local villagers and travelers. A little too popular sometimes, as you see a young, very drunk man being tossed out into the road. He gets up slowly and awkwardly and turns back toward the doorway, pointing and yelling semi-incoherently and no one in particular.
“Clwystal inn….BAH….the owda would be slamed.”
(Crystal inn, Bah, the order would be shamed)

Richard and Nakartai, let me know if you want to interact.

Vicotnik, Gen Eath & Darkling: lets get this meeting going and the attack planned.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Hidden in a tree for what seems like an eternity, Weal checks the time and finds that only 10 minutes have passed. How ridiculous. Here he was, a man with his skills, sitting in a tree.

I will not be reduced from predator to scavenger

Leaping from the tree, Weal felt compelled to DO something. Complacency never accomplished anything. The spaceport was only a short distance away if he flew. On the way to the hangar where his ship was docked Weal passed a few soldiers rushing about in search for the captain of the guard.

The trip back down to the spaceport went quicker than Weal expected, possibly for being lost in his thoughts on how best to locate Heur. After docking, Weal made his way to the conveniently located cantina and begins to look around. Years of experience had taught him who the true unsavory characters were as opposed to those who merely tried to look tough. He orders a drink and squints his yellow eyes, measuring up all the animals at this particular watering hole.

*Watching the two guards leave on their drills, Biel turns as he hears running footsteps. Turning he sees that it’s one of the outer scouts, responsible for the areas outside the fortress. Judging by his worn clothing he had been out of the fortress for a while and just sprinted all the way back to the fortress.*

Scout: “Sir! A patrol found two more people a little while ago. One dead, another half alive, but won’t be for long. We are keeping both of them at our base He stumbled across one of our traps, which caused his injuries and the death of his comrade.”

Biel: “How close did they get?”

Scout: “Too close to be honest sir. They were almost to the illusion field disguising the outer defenses of the fortress, but got caught in an illusion field, which turned them against each other. One died, the other is badly wounded and most likely won’t make it past the night.”

Biel: “So you said. Very well, keep the wounded one comfortable until he passes, then disguise the wounds, make it as if they had an accident, and place them in a area where they will be found. Meanwhile I want you to double-check the rest of our little “surprises” and make sure they are working.”

As the Scout runs away, Biel sighs slightly to himself, turns then sighs again as he hears running footsteps from around the corner. Watching as a Messenger turns around the corner, then comes to a screeching halt.

Messenger: “Sir! The Mage of the Order asks for your presence in his chambers right away.”

Thanking the Messenger, Biel turns and makes his way towards the Mage’s chambers.

Heur felt his courage slipping away, sweat breaking out on his forehead, to join with the layer already there, then anger swept his fear away.

"You can participate for any reason, in any way and any form, but we are working together, othervise they are going to kill us!"

Heur tries to calm himself down, fails, and starts explaining anyway.

"For a time I have been working in secrecy, pulling strings and calling in favours, tonight we will take a shuttle, from there it is only a short way to our enemies. I have allies in the fort itself. Tomorrow they will let us in, and we will go through the portal, any questions?"

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Listening a little more intently this time Slaidonar run over the possibilities carefully considering his response.
“very well though I would prefer to know more about your intelligence and what you actually know, so at least some of us can formulate some kind of idea if things do not go quite so smoothly. Do we least know if your contact is trustworthy or what kind of numbers we are going up against here?”
Slaidonar voice sounding more of a calm whisper right now, rubbing his palm in a slow manner as his gazed wandered in no particular direction right now. This situation was starting to get more intriguing assaulting the headquarters of the Order, even in their more diversified state was a choice few would be willing to chose.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

*Gesadia had been enjoying the banter between the apparent leader, Heur and the attractive man sitting next to her. As Heur apparently ended the outline of the briefing in one sentence, she started to stare hard through narrowed eyes at this sweaty creature standing before them. Grunting, she leans back in her chair and folds her arms*

You can't possibly expect us to believe that it will be that easy do you? Just walk right in and use their portal? Are you absolutely certain we aren't expected? would we need disguises, will there be a firefight? Do you know HOW to operate this equipment?

*Gesadia sighed, wearily*

Leave it to the woman to ask all the necissary questions...

*Gesadia noticed the hard stares digging into her, and smiled her sweetest smile, while simultaneously keeping her bile down*

Well?

*she said, returning her attention to heur*

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

Fluffie sat in his chair, watching the flames in his fireplace. He was thinking, but not too deeply since he didn't want to be startled when the Captain of the Guard arrived, about the scroll. Were the fools actually planning a full scale... Invasion? He and as far as he knew, only he knew the true location of the Crystal. Had he made a mistake at some point during his Guardianship? Did someone else now know? Or would they go through him...

So many questions and the latest somehow made him feel... warmer inside. He was one of the great magicians of his time, this he knew.

Watching the flames play, he waited and pondered.

Some time later, the door opened. Biel stepped in and before he had a chance to speak, Fluffie pointed, without looking, to the scroll on a table near the door.

"There might be some difficulty ahead, Captain. Read it."

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

[ooc] And you're supposed to be their all knowing leader; I feel better already

Good point though; is this set in a pre-existing universe I don't know about, or are we supposed to be making up these details as we go? [/ooc]

Nelilandra watches with a vaguely amused expression as the drunkard leaves the premises into the welcoming embrace of the cobbled pavement before turning to the serving girl, the lack of reaction seeming to indicate that the occurrence is not particularly unusual.

"A fresh drink would be nice," she replies, "And a room, assuming there're any free by this point?"

"O'course miss, what would you like?"

"I think I've had my fill of this." Nelilandra says, brushing a finger round the rim of her last drink. "A glass of elven wine would be wonderful, preferably a white Lórien."

"Certainly miss," she replied slightly shyly, "I'll be right back with it."

And the little blonde darling bustled away, shortly to return, weaving through the crowd with a small tray and glass balanced on one hand, displaying a practiced ease and grace rarely seen in a human, especially on so young, and in such a place as this…

"There you go miss, the sir says we've only got three rooms going t'night. But you'd have to see him about 'em, I'm not allowed into that type of …" She trailed off seeming to realise that she was rambling. "Eithe'way, you'd have to speak with 'im about your room miss."

"Hantalye, " Nelilandra replied; to which the girl half nodded before her eyes widened in recognition and she left rapidly.

As she tastes the first sip of her wine - a rather tart bite followed by a mellow aftertaste with a hint of raspberries - she looks over at 'the sir' behind the bar. A rather coarse looking figure leaning on a barrel whilst conversing with a pair of regulars; balding slightly but trying to ignore it, compensating with a heavy moustache that bares a harsh resemblance to a pair of mating ferrets as he talks.

She takes another sip of her drink and stands, shrugging her shoulders in a roll that brings her cloak back into keeping and heading up to the bar with her still full glass in hand.

[ooc] presumably Nakartai would like a chance to enter around now [/ooc]

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

ooc:
Sorry about the time it took to post again, I've been revising for mock exams and havn't had as much time as usual
No talking with Richpur just yet, had to take care of the drunkard first.
ooc:

As Elek approached the door was slammed open and a man was tossed out onto the road landing hard on his back. Elek sneered at the drunkard as he passed, he liked sneering it suited his persona very well, but the sneer was wiped off his face as he heard the drunkard quite loudly state, through drunkenly slurred speech, that the order would be ashamed.

He turned back to face the man, one look was all it took to tell him he would not remember anything in the morning, and clubbed him around the back of the head with his staff.

As the drunkard fell limp Elek caught him and dragged him off towards the graveyard, stopping to quickly ‘borrow’ a rope from a horse tied outside the inn, and checking quickly that no one had seen him.

The graveyard was rather simple, a few fenced off areas, marking the graves of various families, a few unnafiliated graves, and a single small crypt which obviously housed the remains of the few richer folk within the village. It was to the crypt that he dragged the man. When he reached the door he levelled his staff at the lock and blasted it out, even the basics of transmutation eluded him so he had to rely on brute force to ‘open’ the lock.

Inside he tied the man up and lay him down in an alcove, behind the coffin. Elek then pushed the lid of said coffin off slightly before ripping a part of the corpse’s robe off to tie around the man’s mouth. He slowly began to chant a spell and the rotting corpse sat up in the coffin, climbed out and stood by the alcove. Elek released the spell and quickly performed a more basic one to keep the body in position and inform him if the man should attempt to escape.

Elek then left, closing the door behind him and attempting to lodge a small piece of wood under the door so as to give the image that the lock still functioned. He then headed back into the town to the Crystal Inn.

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

You are welcome to add details as you go. i haven't created a definaie universe except there are only humans, elves, and orcs. Orcs stay away from elves and only sometimes mingle with humans. The fantasy realm is classic with fuedal systems, inns, and the like. There is a ruler of the realm, but he is more of a pawn of the Order, although he doesn't even realize this. That is the power of the Order.

The Order is sometimes considered a myth by some, a rumor by others. As for the crystal, even more than half the order doesn't know for sure if it exists. Only the very central core of mages (Fluffie included) knows the location of the Crystal. However, each has their own position and noone knows the other knows. Fluffie, your char is in charge of this base of operation (there are even more obscure ones you don't know of) and is always the scholarly type. The area is very isolated protected by magical and non-magical traps (as alluded to by Bakan) including illusions, mind traps, and the like.

For the rest of the fantasy people, as I said, it's mostly traditional fantasy. You will eventually be attempting to cross the mountains, evade the traps, cross the forest, and find the Orders sanctuary. FYI, you will be joined by the future people before you get too far and you WILL need their help.

For future people, it's psychic and technology. There are outer planet colonies, however the most advance technology is only available to the rich...or resourceful type. Think Firefly more than Star Trek. Most of the characters will only have very small shuttles or have to catch rides on transport ships. The order in this time is more blatent and more widespread, not even bothering using rulers as pawns, but rules with the threat of the crystal more than the crystal itself, as it has long been lost or destroyed. This is unknown. The assult is taking place on the orders head location, which is very hidden. People know it exists but not as many know where it is.

Hope this helps, but as long as you don't get overpowerful or come up with absurd information for your time period, we will just work with what you create. Much of my plot line is being created from what you are posting. So everyone keep an eye on everyone elses posts to define this universe, not just the people you are responding to.

"Their headquarters are situated in a fortified building, tough it's greatest protection is its hidden location. We know the location, thereby we have passed their first defence."

Heur pauses for dramatic effect, adn then he continues in a slightly raised voice

"Within the complex i have several allies, people I knew back then, people that can help us. Surely they are suspected, but I know none of them has betrayed me yet, at least not knowingly. We are just going to walk up to the main entrance, ask for permission to come in. Once inside your part begins, unfortunatly. You people.."

Heur turns around, adressing every singe person in the room

"..are excellent at delivering organised violence, this is something we are going to have to use"

Letting of a soft chuckle as he listened on, taking in the information carefully, pulling out an electronic pad of some kind, tapping precisely at the screen. Slaidonar smile widening a little more as he slides it back into one of his pockets.
“very well your account has been billed accordingly so my services are yours until either I expire or your fail to pay. I honour my contracts mostly”
Sliding back a little more into his seat
“now as they have already been mentioned there are some key questions that need to be answered, questions that are critical to our continuing mission. Do you know how to operate the portal machine? Or this trip is a waste of time unless we coerce or torture someone who can operate it”

Re: The Crystal of Mylopia

ooc: Ick. I always take too long on these things

------------------------------------------------------

*A door opens into darkness. A pitiful figure, lit up by the pale light of the moon outside, is briefly illuminated for a moment before a dark figure moves into the doorway and casts the pitiful man back into shadow once more.*

*The pitiful man utters a desperate moan as the dark figure approaches, his eyes rolling into the back of his head as a mixture of terror and dread fills the pitiful man. The dark figure smiles, almost as if the sight of the pitiful man was the source of some amusement. As the dark figure comes to a stop, the man before him comes out of his daze long enough to look his tormentor in the eyes. It is but a brief look, yet the pitiful man gives a small yelp before rocking back and forth uncontrollably.*

“I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you… I’ll tell you everything… what you need to know… please… everything… please… everything…”

*The pitiful man continues to utter the last two words as if his very life depended upon it but this brings only a small chuckle from the dark figure. Crouching down to the level of the pitiful man, the dark figure takes a firm grip of the pitiful man’s crooked chin and forces a stare on the pitiful man. The pitiful man freezes eyes darting about in fear as he soils himself, hopelessly trying to escape the horror of looking into the soulless pale orbs of the dark figure.*

“…p-p-please… e-e-everything… p-p-please…”

*The pitiful man continues to utter his two word mantra but the dark figure continues to smile making no sign of whether he hears the plea of the pitiful man. He continues to stare, his eyes expressionless and without feeling, his smile thin and ice cold.*

“Now what makes you think I still want to hear what you have to say Magnus? What makes you think I what this to end?”

*The dark figure allows his thin smile to grow just a little as he watches the eyes of the pitiful man grow wide in horror.*

“No. Nonononono… no. Please no. I tell, I tell, I tell! Everything! I tell, please! Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease! I tell. No need for yucky medicine. No more. No no no no more. Please. No more. I tell, I tell… Truth. I promise. But please, no more yucky medicine. No more medicine. No more medicine…”

*The ramblings of the pitiful man caused the dark figure to chuckle once more. The dark figure rose, letting go of the pitiful man and reaching for a small pouch discretely hanging off his belt. As the pitiful man watched this familiar movement he began to shake uncontrollably, going back to rocking back and forth but much faster to the slow fearful shuffle of before. The pitiful man knew what lurked in that discrete, little pouch very well.*

“NO! No yucky medicine! No more yucky medicine! I tell everything! *sob* P-please! I tell!”

*The dark figure pulls out the object of the pitiful man’s terror and reveals it to be a plain but fragile looking dart, made of a thin glass tube filled with a clear, watery liquid. The pitiful man looked at it from the corner of his eye and rocked even faster.*

“I’m sure you would Magnus, I’m sure you would… But enough of that. It is time you took your medicine.”

*The dark figure flicked the small, frail, glass dart gently to remove any air bubbles and started moving towards the pitiful man with malicious purpose. As the dark figure drew close the pitiful man scampered away, cowering in a nearby corner.*

“No. No more medicine, no more medicine, no more medicine…”

*The dark figure closed on the cornered pitiful man who began to moan and wail louder upon his approach. Louder and louder his wailing grew, speaking his rambling message over and over again as if somehow saying it enough times would make his tormentor disappear. Still smiling that cold, thin smile, the dark figure stood over the pitiful man who was now screaming uncontrollably.*

“NO medicine! NO medicine! NO medicine! I tell! I tell! I tell! Please please please please please please no medicine! No, no, no, no, nooooaaaarrrrrrrrrggh!!!”

*The dark figure stepped back as the pitiful man cried out as if in agony, desperately clawing at the thin glass dark embedded in his neck with hands that were quickly becoming useless. The efforts of the pitiful man lessened and his cries died down to whimpers as his eyes rolled back into his head and stayed there. Foam started to pour from his mouth and the dark figure took this as his cue to depart, leaving the pitiful man trapped in the dark room, alone to experience his worst nightmares all over again…*

*I am that dark figure. My name is Hawen and I seek the one crystal.*

------

The 12th day of August, 837AD

“My efforts have lead me to a remote mountainous region beyond the silver gate. It is a quiet land, a remote region that normally has little contact with the outside world – at least that is what I can guess judging from the general reactions I get from people when I approach them.

Everyone I run into here has heard some tale or rumor about the order and almost worryingly more than a few proclaim to know at least a few details on the order’s specific location. So I know I am getting close. Unfortunately, many others appear to be close as well – there are many other seekers here.

So I must hurry, I can no longer let myself get sidetracked with the pleasures of the hunt and run the risk of someone reaching the prize before I do. Such a pity having to take my quest more seriously now, it means I can no longer have those delightfully lengthy conversations… I do so love a good drawn out, lengthy conversation.”

* * *

The 14th day of August, 837AD

“As I assumed, it hasn’t taken long to find a good lead on a specific location for the order. Indeed their presence is well known here… they must be getting sloppy in their old age. Unusual.

I have been told repeated that close by there is an isolated mountain range, covered in dense wilderness where the order meets to discuss pressing matters of the world, magic and no doubt other important stuff privy only to the order.

I am told there are two villages nearby that border this wilderness, one elven and one human. Immediately I have ruled out going to the village of my kin. It’s always harder to extract information from one of the elven and hence that normally makes the whole experience more enjoyable. But I am in a hurry, so I will go to the human village. Humans are weak, pathetic creatures… I should have no problem getting the information I need.

I only hope the stupid fools know something of true worth.”

* * *

The 15th day of August, 837AD

“It is cold, wet and windy… but I have a good room in a busy inn so the weather at present is irrelevant. Sasha, my mare, has been stabled in dry lodgings… so all good so far.

I haven’t got much to write down at present as I have only just arrived as you are no doubt aware from the first line in this entry. But I just had to sit down right now and make note of this: the multitude of seekers here is astonishing. So I am definitely in the right place it would seem.

As always, getting into the village and past the village guard was no hassle even at this late hour and in these conditions. I didn’t even have to give them a cover story. Yet another sign of the many strangers here.

The other seekers do worry me a little I must admit but not enough for me to ponder on right now. The journey here has been a long one and I am weary from travel. Tonight I think I’ll head to the commons for a quiet drink and perhaps a meal though the main thing I am looking forward to at the moment is simply retiring for the night.

I doubt I’ll pick up any useful information while I’m down there, at least what I haven’t heard already but I’ll keep an ear out just the same. So a meal would be a good idea. In fact now that I think about it, it would be a very good idea. The thought of food has made me hungry it would seem.

So… time for that meal then. It would appear I am quite ravished from my travels."

Unable to resist letting out a soft chuckle, looking Heur straight on with a smirk
“Your credits, your decision, we make our move then. My ship is hidden away out of sight nearby. I would prefer to follow behind you or if you are feeling so inclined you could give me the coordinates and I can meet you there?”
Slaidonar getting up from the decrepit chair glad to finally be moving, twisting his neck in either direction before giving the elves shadowing Heur a quick scowl. They had some expertise to bring to this, whatever it was made Slaidonar suspicious of this whole setup
