Consols Bakan over the big, complicated, expensive, traditional church wedding with many total strangers gawking at them. I know you want to make Karen happy...but still sorry

LoL.
Well, as Serene said, we have a lot of planning, not to mention I'm graduating, dunno where I'll be working full-time, and whatnot, so we decided to give ourselves some headroom and take the planning slowely and carefully.
And it's a year and less than 3 months away :-P.

even I wanted, I prolly couldn't anyways, prohibitive air ticket costs and such.
Not to mention the risk of pissing Bakan off and missing my return flight
I think I'll stick to pissing him off on the forums, that's a lot safer :P

I never said I didn't want to go to yours.... The subject just never came up.
I have a good idea though, set a webcam up so we can all watch, those of that can't/aren't allowed to come

Well as it's medieval themed sorta, swords are allowed, but I have no idea how'd you do that. Nor do i know how'd you'd get it through customs.
As for the dutch part, we aren't :P Czar is determined to come.
Just an added note for wannabe guests. There will be NO alcohol served at the wedding and many of you are too young to drink legally here.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
I just point out as well that the K5 is based of an asian weapon whilst our wedding is more themed around medieval europe. Though I use term loosly since its not going to be to extreme level since that would cost more than we have to spend on it. So its just down to costumes and the like, though they are by the persons choice.

*Slaps Flapjack upside his head* That comment isn't even worth a good RP beatdown.
As for the alcohol, There are only a few ppl coming who even drink and since the bride, groom, and my parents who are paying for it don't drink, the drinkers will have to go find something AFTER the wedding. Besides, I am not giving access to alcohol to the majority of UNDERAGE guests. We're not getting arrested and Darkling getting kicked out of the country after the wedding for anyone.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
I'm not sure if that'd be good enough for Darkling to be allowed to stay in the USA.
I really wish we would finally start kicking immigrants who break the law out of the country again, that would really help around here
note: I have nothing against immigrants, it's just that they represent a much larger portion of the prisons then they, when you're comparing numbers, should. I really wish I had the exact numbers right now though

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
That would never work as neither of us are Canadian citizens, so try explaning that one to the US goverment when we try to live there, since the marriage would not be valid then in the US. All this causing a whole lot more problems than we currently have to deal with to begin with.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
nope, we have to get married in the country we plan to live in unless we want to spend even longer on paperwork and other government redtape.
Besides, i live about an hour from the canadian border. Underage ppl can take a trip if they want, but Darkling and I can't go. Another annoying rule is he can't leave the country without excessive paperwork for 3 some years.

wow, so first they don't want to him to come unless he can prove he's good for it.
Then when they let him in, they don't want him to leave...
I think what those government guys really need are some paper shredders, so they can shred all the stupid rules...

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
Guys, it was a joke. Never mind, eh. I hope both weddings go well and that the States' immigration laws are not too much of a barrier to your enjoyment in future years.
Flapjack: You'll probably find that poor people form a larger share of the prison populations "than they should". I decided to pick up on that even though it's off-topic since reducing conflict within society is a good thing.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
ND: Poor people forming a large share of the prison population is expected, since poor people would be more inclined to crime as a method to increase their income. And while I think poor people should be helped, I also think criminals should be punished. Punishing immigrants can most of the time be done by simply tossing them out the country and sending them back to where they came from (though obviously, heavy crimes like manslaughter and murder should still get you put in jail, regardless of nationality).
This not only often forces them to rebuild their lives, it also significantly reduces government costs and thus decreases the load on poor, non-criminal, people.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
Flapjack: The point being that immigrants (first and second generation, certainly) will tend to be at a disadvantaged position within society, and so will tend to form a disproportionate share of the prison population for the same reason that the poor do. You seem to count impoverished national ethnics and impoverished immigrants as separate groups to be treated differently, and I can't see why. Anyway, this is my last post on the matter since it is as was already indicated off-topic.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
I don't mean to sound offensive Flapjack, but that's a pretty nieve generalisation... although a common one. Crime centres around poverty and desperation, not because of some peeps racial background, and the mostly likely reason a higher than normal percentage of immigrants are in this situation is because racist, redneck, american b*stards openly discrimate against them making getting a job and existing in the community that much harder. Many find themselves forced from re-building their lives which can have a negative effect on the more impressionable younger peeps whom, more than likely feeling angry and frustrated well rebel against the community that shunned them.
Think about the big picture before taking the easy way out of the issue.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
Deporting immigrants after they commit crimes would indeed seem to imply that immigrants and not poverty or social exclusion are the cause of the crime, which simply isn't the case. I mean, you could deport all the criminals, which is what we used to do. Then a hundred and fifty years or so down the line you'll get a cool cousin-nation like Australia that you can all emmigrate to.

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
Anyway I think we were talking about weddings or something similar. Or was it funerals? Yes, I think it was funerals. Fluffie died and we were organising his funeral, and then we started talking about having the funeral in Canada instead of the Netherlands or something. That was it.

I don't think you get my point ND, anyways, I'm not gonna continue on this topic because it is indeed off-topic.
And now that I'm off-topic anywas, it'd be a great idea to put all the big criminals on a bunch of huge spaceships and shoot them some place as far away as possible :P

Re: OOC: End of one Era - Beginning of another
Thinking about the expense and environmental concerns of sending a few selected people into space and the sheer number of people in prisons, it would certainly be better to dispose of them here... possibly by turning them all into compost and turning the sahara into a large farm. Solves two problems that way. Although the environmental problems caused by an africa with a growing population as well as the current indian and chinese industrialisation... Meh. was there a topic? oh, yes...
Countries being cautious about people entering on the basis of marriage is understandable; we had a landmark case over here recently where the official actually refused to marry a couple when they were accompanied to the ceremony by two interpreters who introduced them to each other; they'd never met before and didn't have any language in common. Decided they obviously weren't getting married for the right reasons...
Can't see any problems with this lot... apart from the obvious insanity.
