Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Looking ahead trying to focus with all the snow, carrefully walking across the roof towards the attenas. More slidng than wlaking most of the time, falling forward reaching out to stop his own fall lewis somhow manages a limp crawl agaisnt the wind and ice. Arriving somewhat in one piece minus a few bumps and bruises from some falls, his pack not helping to ease any of the pain as it presses threatens to pull him over in the direction of the gusting wind.

Caught of gaurd by the wind and slipping on some ice, lewis sldies the final short lenght across the roof to hit the rectanle mounting for the relays fuses and circuits with a hardy thump. Letting out a grumble now clearly seeing the exposed and open fuse box, hitting his communictor to control straight away hoping it would get through.

"This is Corpral Lewis Morgan I am on the roof and the fuse box has appered to been tampered with. Inspecting further out"
Releasing the straps of his pack, its weight enough to keep it held down agaisnst the wind. Opening up the tools compartment of his kit to pull out a small inspection light, keeping the rifle over his shoulder for now as lewis peered inside the boxes contents.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Crazy
You fire off a report to HQ, but all you get in reponse is static - too much steel and earth in between, most likely. Regardless, you decide to venture over to the body you saw, hoping for a survivor. As soon as you get close enough for you to be able to see it easily through your thermal imaging - the light from the fires is scoping out large areas of your vision with painfully white light - you are quite sure that he isn't a survivor - there's a gaping hole in his back, through which you can see the inside of his right lung. Blood has poured out from the wound, staining his uniform and dripping down through holes in the steel railing platform on which he lies. You've seen a lot of wounds like this before; pulse rifle fire. The man was shot in the back once, and presumably died pretty quickly.

Darkling
You make your way carefully over to the fuse box, making sure not to step on any of the ice patches. Finally, you reach it, gratefully getting down on your knees, and from your toolkit producing a small torch to inspect the wiring with. After sending a quick report back to HQ - to which you only recieve static as a reply - you get to inspecting the inside of the box. It doesn't take long to figure out what the problem is; someone's been at the wiring with a knife. A number of key cables have been severed altogether, and the fuses seem to have been crudely wrenched from their normal positions. Whoever did this obviously wasn't an engineer, but they had managed to do their job to the extent where fixing the coms relay was going to be impossible without replacement parts, which you don't have. Suddenly, you hear voices coming from below - your're near the edge of the roof, and the voices are coming from the floor below, somewhere near the wall.

"Did you get the com relay?" Says one voice. It sounds distorted - you can tell it's being spoken through the external speakers of a gas mask, you've heard the effect before.

"Yeah," Replies a second voice, "nothing to it, just stuck a knife in there."

What to do, what to do...

Bakan
Muttering to yourself grimly, you set off in the direction of the stairwell for sixth-underground. The lights had been playing up a few minutes before, and you'd head an announcement about one of the generators going down. Presently, the ground shook slightly beneath your feet, and you heard what sounded like an explosion, except distant. The lights go out, plunging the room into darkness, and you hear a woman scream back in the office behind you. You don't have your armour on, so no thermal imaging, but luckily the thoughtful design of your robotic arm incuded a torch...

You haven't recieved any communication from HQ yet. On the other side of the door is a standard reception affair, with a desk and a chair and a personal computer of some description. There's usually a technician or lab assistant sitting there and checking everybody who enters in, but he dissapeared into the labs once the lights went off, and didn't come out again. As you look into the blindingly white room, the door further into the labs suddenly opens, and a reasonably attractive, white labcoated female lab assistant of roughly your age runs out, completely hysterical. She desparately keys in a combination into the number lock on the other side of the main door, but there's no replying tone from the lock, and the doors don't move. She spots you, and begins frantically hammering on the glass pane of the door with the palm of her hand.

"Help! Help me! You have to get me out of hear! Please!" She shouts, clearly losing it. What the hell could be going on in those labs...the glass panes weren't bulletproof or Transparasteel; you should be able to smash through them fairly easily with the butt of your rifle if she stands back.
"Alright! alright! Calm down, you can't tell me what is wrong when you're in a panic. I'll get us out of here while you fill me in. Stand back please."

Sarge ain't gonna like this...

*Taking the womans distress seriously he forces her back as he unslings his pulse rifle. Without pause he raises it up high and smashes the butt end into roughly the centre of the closest glass pane (assumably) causing it to shatter into a million pieces. The sound of this is deafening.*

"Alright miss, what was your name again? Anyway... follow me please."

*Hewitt begins leading the woman towards the elevator.*

You smash the glass pane of the door in, and the woman steps through, still looking completely hysterical. On being asked her name, she looks at you, apparently seeing you for the first time, and mumbles a reply.

"Catherine." She says, looking a bit calmer now. You start moving toward the stairwell, signalling for her to follow, but then she suddenly comes to her senses, now speaking a lot more calmly. "Oh! But, the others, they're still in there! You have to help them...do you have a flashlight or...?" She asks, and you do indeed have one latched to your tool belt. "I can make my own way back if you do - should be safe out here, after all they won't be able to get out past the..." She trails off, looking at you for a few moments, before falling silent. You get the distinct impression she has said something that she shouldn't have.

Name: Cali Roxborough

Rank: Corporal

Age: 24

Role: Soldier

Squad: Standard

Desc: Cropped black hair, sinewy build, stringy muscles and pale skin. Small scar on right upper lip and a similar one across the nose ridge.

History/Info: Cali grew up in a poor backwater area where her childhood was marked by sexual abuse and later trafficking. At 14 she became a child soldier and at 18 she was imprisoned. Her childhood has led to her developing several mental disorders such as mood swings (from smug and confident to silent or even aggressive), a hate-fear view on men and a sexual interest in young boys.
She was drafted shortly after she was relead from prison at the age of 21 and, with the help of proper medication, she has been able to function more or less satisfactory as a grunt in the Marines. People still find her to be odd.

Equipment: Assault Shotgun, Standard Armour, 3 HE Grenades, Underslung Grenade Launcher, Gas Mask

"Shit shit shit.... ! ... "

Upon seeing, and reconising the wound, Crazy took no time at all in turning tail and running back for the ladder and the stair well. He had to get to higher levels and report in. This couldn't be an accident. Not with what was left of the generator and the wound in that technician. Clearly somebody had wanted it to look like an accident, and they probably would have succeeded, if that body had of been burnt to crisp.

Once back up the ladder, Crazy hurried back towards the stairs, all the while searching around to see if there were any nasty's out to get at him.

Could you make your character ever so slightly less psychotic? And they're not drafting from prisons quite yet, so say you were released and then got drafted or that you were released and then volunteered or something.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

This was close range now. Putting the safety back on his Rifle, he slung it around his shoulder on his back, producing his SMG instead. Reaching out and grabbing the photo of his family from the table, he slides it somewhere under his armour, while as softly as possible readying his SMG for combat. Finally, he puts his thermal imaging on too, keeping his eyes and bullet spraying end of the SMG aimed on the staircase.

This...

Not finishing his thoughts, a sudden wave of anger suddenly unleashed itself somewhere deep inside Fluffie. He was not going to be shot on this forsaken planet, he was going to go home when his posting here was done. No invading force, no no-one that would choose to oppose him would get in his way. Focussed entirely on making sure he was safe, he gave Mathers a hand signal to slowly advance towards the staircase and to keep ready, for anything.

He did as he ordered the Private himself too, slowly advancing, keeping his finger around the trigger. Side to side, they slowly moved forward, half crouched. Somewhere, Fluffie silently hoped the other Marine was as concentrated and as willing to get back home in one piece as he was.

It didn't take them long to arrive in an ideal firing position covering the staircase. In a streak of boldness, Fluffie took in some already colder air into his lungs, speaking loud and clearly.

"Who's there?"

Sliding it slowly back in whilst releasing the safety catch on the pulse rifle, as its put back over his shoulder.

Taking a look back at his pack to taking advatage of some ice spots to pull it along quietly. Feeling his heart begin to race and lips dry, not entrily sure what to do right now or what he was doing himself letting his training and instincts take over.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Dunin
The lights hadn't come back on yet. You were on the Ground Floor of the research facility - the only above ground floor, and probably the least-used one. Despite the walls being solid, insulated Duracrete, it still felt colder up here. And, now that the heating was off, it seemed to be getting cold - but that was just your imagination. Hopefully. Your job was to guard the equipment store on the Ground Floor which, apart from a deserted reception area and guest accomodation - which, surprisingly, never got used - was the only thing there. The equipment store never got used anyway; it housed tools and equipment which was supposedly for use collecting samples and such from the native fauna. Whatever use the scientists had for the native inhabitants of this moon had apparently long-since vanished, and so the equipment never got used. Regardless, you have to make sure noone tried to steal it. It was a lonely, but quiet, job that allowed you to lose yourself in the depths of your mind. And, at the moment, it was a very dark job. Suddenly, you hear noise. The equipment room is small, 4 metres long and a single metre wide, with a narrow strip of floor space not taken up by tools and crates. A sliding door leads into the main entrance hallway just ouside the room - you can see the huge, reinforced bulkhead doors leading to the outside through a large, bulletproof glass window forming one lengthways wall of the equipment room. Through the door into the hallway to the left is the bulkhead door to the outside, through the door into the hallway to the right is an elevator shaft door to the 1st underground floor, and a door to a stairwell that also goes downwards. Then, there is a single, narrow steel door leading to a kind of airlock which then leads outside - that door is in the wall directly behind you. And it's through that door that the noise came. Muffled voices. Abruptly, numbers begin appearing on the code entry bar of the number lock on your side of the door. You know the code for the door, and here it is, appearing, but you can't here the beeps from the other side of the door that would indicate someone entering the code on that side - it's being hacked. You could probably get out of the equipment room pretty quickly to take cover in the shadows in the hall and observe who's entering.

Crazy
Swearing vehemently, you turn and make to run away from the corpse. But, on turning, you see a figure standing on the raised platform, standing in front of the door. The figure seems somehow...shiny - and somehow inhuman. On shining your gun's light onto it, it quickly becomes apparent that the figure isn't human at all. It stands on two thin, but powerful looking, legs, and its arms are sharp blades - their shape reminds you of scythes. Its head is elongated, and it is coated entirely in shiny yellow-ish carapace. Your light apparently glares in its eyes, because it emits a low screeching noise and takes a few steps backwards, holding up one of its sword-like arms to shield itself from the light.

Hewitt
Catherine takes the flashlight gratefully and switches it on, looking a bit more content, but then as soon as you say "lead the way" she becomes very anxious again.

"But I thought...I'd only be a hindrance to you, I can't fight and...those...things... - please, please just let me go to the Barracks? I'll be fine on my own, really, but you have to help the others." She was going on about things that you didn't know of again. Of course, she was in a sense correct. She obviously percieved whatever was on the other side of that door as dangerous. She would only get in the way, but then without her you would have no way of telling what you were most likely to encounter. Time to make the choice...as you consider the options, you hear the reply from Lieutenant Riley, the Battalion Coms Operative.

"Hewitt, reinforcements are en-route, you are ordered not to move without them." Says the 2nd Lieutenant, the signal buzzing with static, "I repeat, your orders are to hold position untill the advance squad arrives with Lieutenant Tremaine, then procede inwards under his orders. We're getting reports of all kinds of crazy shit going on, Captain doesn't know what's up, so we're trying to figure everything out before we move the main force. Over and out." Suddenly, you hear a scuttling noise overhead. You briefly remembered in the briefing before coming here that air vents ran through the spaces between the floors. On hearing the sound, Catherine gives a shriek and backs up against the perimeter corridor's outer wall behind you, shining the torch up at the vent opening of the room behind you fearfully.

Fluffie
You being to feel angry; angry at the Corps for stationing you on this rock at Christmas, angry at those idiot scientists for shorting the generators out, angry at whoever it was who had forces entry into the Tower. Grimly, you signalled Mathers on ahead. He seemed to have got control of his nerves now. Nodding, pulse rifle at his shoulder, he crept forward toward the staircase before standing behind the railing over where the descending stairs met the floor below. You crept forward, sub machine gun raised, making not a sound, ready to fire at the drop of a pin. Taking up position just out of sight behind the railings, near to where the ascending staircase met this floor, you worked up enough guts to issue a challenge. There is no reply, then, seconds later, you begin hearing voices over the coms - but they aren't voices you recognise.

"This is Unit Gamma at Objective 5, enemy troops detected in the tower."

"Confirm enemy troops at Objective 5?"

"Confirm. Repeat, enemy troops on the first floor of the tower at Objective 5. Enemy troops are aware of our presence." Mathers turns briefly from staring down the sights of his pulse rifle to look at you, disbelief on his face.

"Must be picking up their coms traffic," He whispers, barely audible above the wind outside, "these models do that sometimes."

"The power is still out and we're still jamming outbound communication; kill them."

"Yes sir."

Below, in the shadows at the bottom of the staircase, you hear a noise, very quiet. Then, suddenly, something is bouncing across the ground in front of you. A grenade.

Darkling
As you half crawl, half slide across the ice toward the edge of the wall, the voices become more clear. They continue speaking, still apparently unaware of your presence.

"Are the exits sealed?" Says one of them, the first voice, and apparently superior to the other. You took your pulse rifle from its strap on your back, checking that the clip was loaded. Dark stories told to you as a recruit by your drill sergeant ran through your head - stories of Marines who hadn't checked, and has recieved an unpleasant surprise at the moment when they really didn't need one.

"Yes sir," Confirms the second, "we were two minutes late finishing up, but infra red isn't showing up any - wait...wait! There someone on the roof! Right above us!"

"Shoot him!" And, seconds later, the edge of the roof in front of you explodes into shards of concrete. Instinctively, you jerk backwards away from the wall, rolling inwards and away from the gunfire. HQ still hadn't come in over the coms.

"He's up on the middle. Throw a grenade!" Says the first voice, and, seconds later, not one but two high explosive grenades are bouncing across the roof toward you. Both of them are near enough for you to kick them away again. Better hurry though...

Inspectre
You're in the Marine Barracks. Novagorsk was a boring place, but the barracks were pretty decent. Plenty of comfortable furniture to lounge on - and warm, which was a good thing on this rock. But then, it wouldn't be long for much longer if the power stayed off. The room around you - Marine Living Area - was lit up by a number of circles of light from helmet torches. Noone had switched thermal imaging on quite yet. You were all sitting fully armed and fully equipped - and had been since the power had gone off. Presently, the Battalion 2iC, 1st Lieutenant De Loran, walks into the room. He looks aroumd briefly before fixing his stare on you - his helmet light blinding you momentarily.

"Tremaine!" He yells, perhaps needlessly, "We've got reports of something bad happening on the level 3 Labs, take Scarez, O'Sullivan and Henley and find out what the Hell's going on there. Double time it! Report back to HQ once you've got some idea of what's happeneing!" With that, he turns on his heel and leaves. You see three other Light Marines: Private Scarez with a pulse rifle, bayonet, grenades and gas mask; Private O'Sullivan with a pulse rifle, an Mp10 and a bayonet and grizzled Sergeant Henley with his pulse rifle, reinforced armour, grenades and bayonet stand to. Henley is the first to speak.

"Awaiting orders, sir." He says. Henley didn't look at all disturbed by what was going on at the base, but the two Privates - both of whom were green - looked a little nervy. You had two routes. You could go overground, through the Ground Floor of the facility, and then follow the stairwell. No problems with the lighting, but it was going to be hell getting through the blizzard, even with the winter coats. Or, you could go down to second underground in the Marine Barracks and cut to the research facility through the tunnel there.

PK
You trip over some memory core and then make a humorous remark about the base's technicians - unfortunate that noone was around to hear it. You reach the door into Hangar 3, and with the aid of your thermal imaging visor, spot the keypad. Entering the correct code, the door gives a postivie tone and slides open. It doesn't take long to figure out that something's up - the technicians' corpses litter the floor of the hangar, and you can see pools of blood spreading out from them. You hadn't heard any firing - which meant silencers - nor screaming - which meant proffessionals. There was noone alive in sight, but the boarding ramp to the freighter was open, allowing easy access...

Flapjack
You can see relief on the man's face as you say your name, but he flinches back nonetheless when you grab his arm.

"I don't know why the powers out, but...did you feel the ground shake? Felt kind of like an explosion to me..." As he said this, you hear a scuttling noise - something moving across the floor, quickly, behind the man. He turns around, looking a lot more anxious again. "What was that?" He asks, apparently thinking you ought to know. You do indeed have your flashlight strapped to your tool belt.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

*Remmon quickly scanned the area behind the man while pulling the flashlight out and handing it to the techie, waiting a moment for the techie to grab the flashlight and pushing him into the staircase and up the stairs with 1 hand, while raising his pistol with the other, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever was making that noise*

"Move, get up to level 2 and into the barracks. Is there anybody else where you came from?"

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Mother****ers.

Fluffie launched himself forward, kicking the grenade down the staircase again with as much righteous fury as he could. In his subconsience, he saw that beach again, back on Earth. With some mates he had played some soccer on the sand and though this situation was a very different one, there was slight resemblance. Kick to win. Back on Earth there hadn't been a chance of his legs getting blown off, so with that little bit of extra motivation, Fluffie's subconscience could've sworn this kick was a one hell of a better one.

Goddamn mother****ers.

Partially expecting the explosion to be close or too close to him and hoping for the remainder that the 'nade wouldn't go off till it had made its way back down stairs. Regardless of the outcome, Fluffie prepared himself to storm downstairs and shoot anyone in sight the second he heard the characteristic boom. It seemed like a, if not the, sensible thing to do, because after all, an explosion right in ****ing front of a human being ought to confuse them for at least a second or two.

In the short wait, Fluffie signalled Mathers with his hand again, ordering the marine to follow him and his lead. With a bit of luck and even without it, his firearm would soon be doing what it did best. Shoot and kill, in an inhumanly fast pace. The anger which still resided inside Fluffie's mind was telling him to press on and on, not caring about who was attacking or why, as long as he made it out.

It had come down to survival of the fittest now and despite him smoking, Fluffie was a Light Marine in the prime of his life. In the prime of his life and then some, this wasn't a man to mess with.

Reaching for the grenades almost falling in the porcess on some ice, randomly kicking them back in the direction of the hole made by their gunfire moments before. Not seconds before pulling the pulse rifle back around stumbling backwards to get clear of the blast, letting out a few burst through the roof in general direction the voices came from.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

/OOC: She's not psychotic, but I realise my description points to that. She's just a bit odd to most people, but otherwise pretty stable.
We'll say she was drafted after prison then.
And don't scare me with such mastodont posts! I'm not going to claim I can reply with such fervour, because then I'd be lying. Anyway, here goes:

Cali was leaning against the wall of the room, her gasmask and helmet on a shelf beside her, together with her shotgun. It was silent, and lonely. Though most would call her a bit "off", she none the less disliked the isolation. On the other hand, most of the company on the base was men and didn't relish the thought of having to spend more time with them than she had to: Sleeping in the same room as them was enough.
Anyway, on this duty she lived for the meal breaks. She was currently eating one of her protein bars; though they were chocolate flavour they tasted awful, even worse than standard military diet. But she still insisted on smuggling them with her in her luggage, obsessed with her physique as she was. They were her breakfast, lunch and dinner and was half-way through one when she heard the noise.
She froze, turned around to look out through the glass and quickly realised what was happening. She looked around and quickly picked up her gear, but spent no time to put it on. Carrying the mask and helmet in one hand and her shotgun in the other she quickly made her way out of the room and into the darkest corner available. She knelt down, put the head gearon the ground and raised her gun; one movement readying a shell.
Then she swore - the half-eaten protein bar had been left on the floor in the storage.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Name: Alexander "Doc" Yuechenko
Rank: Lance Corpral
Age: 24
Role: Medic for healing
Squad: HQ(I guess that were medic go)
History/Info: A Young man from eastern Europe. His Father was a farmer and din't have a lot of money, Alex always wanted to be a doctor. However the aptitude test made him a blue cloar worker. How ever with some reserach Alex found a way around it.

The U.N. had a program that allowed troops to go to colleage for next nothing, and there home goverments couldn't say a thing. So he joined up. Unfortunatley the war broke out and all colleage education on bases was stalled.

He is a hospital corpsmen, which means a lot of thing to marines. The bond was formed in World War 2 by american marines and there corpsmen. The corpsmen were known for using there own bodies as sheild against enemy fire for there patience. There battlefield first aid saved many lives in conflicts. Giving men the mobility and time to reach an aide station. When to U.N. toke over such an instiution was adopted for U.N. marines, and with the instiution survived the nickname of the corpsmen simply "Doc".((sorry all forgot to steal this earlier))

He is physicly fit but not powerful like the heavy infantry guys. He has black hair and accompnying black eyes. he stands about 5' 10".

Equitment: Pulse Rifle (standard issue)
Standard Armour(standard issuse, possibly)
Medic Kit(5ep)
Gass Mask(3ep, got to go were the patient goes)

That would be once a day, wheras the intention here is several times a day.

I'm not going to come up with a location for you untill you come up with a character; I'm not some bottomless fountain of creativity. You don't have to come up with a deep character, just the age and weapons and stuff.

Looks fine. You'll be DMed with the others in a few moments.

"Oh for .... "

Crazy stopped where he was, gun aimed towards the alien, both the lights from his gun and helmet glaring at it. He slowly pulled back the hammer on his assault rifle, then let the mechanism slide it back. A bullet was fed into the chamber, as Crazy's thumb flicked the safety into the 'off' position. He slowly took a step back, bringing his assault rifle up. The stock tucked firmly against his shoulder, his eye looking down the sights, pointing it towards the alien.

He waited.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

*PK's demeanour changed instantly when he saw the bodies. He hadn't particularlyliked the techies, but they hadn't deserved death. He ducked back through the door, back to the wall, knowing that if he had thermals, whoever else was here probably did too. Grimly, he checked the ammo count on his weapon ; full, and that the silencer and scope were fitted correctly. They were, as always. He keyed for his radio. *

"HQ, Patrol one-nineteen. Intruders in loading bay, vicinity Hangar 3. Multple intruders likely. Requesting assistance."

*Next, careful not to make a noise, he looked back round the corner, exposing as little of himself as possible to any potential attackers. He panned the pulse rifle across the floor, checking all the corners and places he could see using the scope, then did the same for the upper levels, before moving swiftly but silently in.*

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

DMing begins for the day - December 20th, 2004
It looks like it's going to be a cold, cold Christmas on Novagorsk this year...

The brave Marines of the 45th Line Battalion are under attack - but by who? As the Marines deployed to the surface, their means of communication with the bulk of the force below mysteriously cut, desparately try to fight off attack by as-yet unseen - but undoubtedly human - enemies, the soldiers scattered in the depths of the research facility will soon find themselves facing a much stranger, much darker enenmy. Will the Marines of the 45th make it off of Novagorsk alive? Only time will tell...

Flapjack
Shoving the flashlight into the technician's hands, you hold up your pistol, the laser sight's red dot visible on the steel floor plates. You see nothing, and hear only silence. Presently you ask the technician if there was anyone else where he came from.

"Uh...no. I was walking to the labs on floor 4 when the lights went out." He says, then, realising that you just ordered him to the barracks, "Ah, yeah, the Barracks - that's my emergency post. I should be able to make my own way there just fine now that I've got this flashlight." He turns around, looking at the steel door you hit your head on. "I don't know where the technicians stationed to this floor have got to - should've got the auxilliary generator out of there alrea-AAAAAAH!" He finishes in a terrified scream, and wheeling around you see something leap toward him, seemingly off the cieling, before piercing his chest with two lower limbs - both ending in sharp points - and cutting furiously at his chest with its front two - both sword-like appendages. The creature is covered in yellow carapace, and roughly the size of a man's hand fully outstretched. The technician drops the flashlight, screaming in agony as crimson viscera sprays a fine red mist into the air, covering the door in front of him.

Fluffie
Reflexes overtake rational thought, and instead of leaping backwards to take cover behind the benches in the room, you throw yourself forwards, legs outstreched, attempting to kick the grenade away. Everything moves in slow motion - you jump forward toward the grenade, flinging your right leg out. You watch as the heel of your sturdy Marine Corps-issue combat boot connects with the grenade, sending it skittering toward the stairs, bouncing off the wall and dissapearing into the darkness. You begin to pick yourself off from the floor, and just as you do, you hear a voice - this time not through your communicator, but through the air - from downstairs.

"Oh SHI-" Boom! You hear the roar of your grenade exploding, and smoke well up from the darkness beneath the stairs. The wind suddenly seems to be howling a lot more loudly. Signalling Mathers to follow you - and seeing him nod in reply - you storm down the staircase, Mp10 ready, and overcome by anger as you are you almost stumble down the stairs mid-way, but thankfully you catch yourself. Thermal imaging picks out the confused situation at the bottom of the stairs at almost the exact same moment that intense, biting cold hits your skin. You see one body, a Marine - and from his bayonet a Light Marine, slumped against the wall opposite you, half his face blown off, either dead or soon to be. A black scorchmark marrs the previously shiny steel floor. There is now a gaping hole in the wall to the right of where the stairs meet the floor - wind gusting through it, and with a light dusting of snow already visible in the air. Looking left, you see a doorway into the lower floor of the tower - containing a meager living area for the guards. The door is open - through it, you can see the entry door, also open. Suddenly, a figure bursts out from behind the open doorway in front of you, a Light Marine with a sword bayonet fixed to his pulse rifle. Mathers fires five shots on full automatic, which rip open the enemy soldier's chest, spraying you lightly with blood. The now-dead soldier is thrown backwards to the floor of the other room, into a pool of his own blood. You hear another voice from inside the room.

"Shit! This is Unit Gamma, heavy resistance encountered at Objective 5 - two men down, repeat, two men down! Requesting reinforcements!" The sound of the man's voice places him somewhere behind the open doorway and to the right.

Darkling
Throwing yourself forward almost without thinking, you shove the grenade back over the precipice that is the edge of the roof and down to the ground below - within a few moments, you are rewarded with a terrified scream and an explosion. The gunfire stops immediately. Holding your pulse rifle ready, you squeeze off several shots at the edge of the roof - but instead of piercing it the pulse rounds explode on impact, creating more pockmarks. You can't hear anything - but then over the constant roar of the blizzard, that isn't exactly surprising.

Dunin
Retreating into the shadows in the hallway, you put your headgear on and, as an afterthought, the thermal imaging with it. Instantly, you can see everything much more clearly, in excellent, albeit green shaded, detail. You hold your shotgun ready, but as you do so you realise that you're probably a bit too far from the door for it to be effective - you also have your pulse rifle with you, maybe it would be a better gun to start with. Presently, you hear the door emit the tone it makes when it's accepted an inputted code. It slides open. Two Marines enter, both of them Light Marines with sword bayonets fixed to their pulse rifles. One of them has a laser sight. Both have their gun-flashlights on, but after a few moments scanning around the equipment room, which they find empty, both of them lose heart.

"Can't see a ****ing thing in here. Put your thermal imaging on," Says one of them, by his rank badge apparently a sergeant. Both of them are, for a moment, only holding their rifles by the pistol grip while they reach up to activate thermal imaging on their visors - a window of oppurtunity. You can see them both through the glass window to the equipment room, which isn't bulletproof.

Mao
You're sitting in the living area of the Marine Barracks on the first underground floor. It's dark - the emergency technicians still hadn't appeared to get the auxilliary generators working on this level, but apparently some engineers were working on that. You and the other Marines present are all fully kitted-out in anticipation of an attack, and, indeed, within seconds 1st Lieutenant De Loran, the Battalion 2iC, runs into the room, looking out of breath - apparently he'd run to the holding area from the command post.

"Yuschenko! Grab a winter coat, you're going topside. One of the towers got their auxilliary generator working and they've radiod in reporting an attack - but one of the Marines there is dead and the survivor reports that he's seriously wounded." He says, speaking quickly but clearly, "Get to Tower C as quickly as you can - but watch out for enemy troops. You're going unescorted; Captain says he wants as many troops as are reporting in staying here untill we know exactly where the enemy's coming from - the attack on the tower could've been a feint. On the double!" And, with that, he's gone.

Crazy
You cock a bullet into the firing chamber of your pulse rifle, and flick the safety lock off. The alien crouches low, screeching in a way that chills you to the bone, and, apparently aggravated by all the clicking from your gun, leaps at you, sword-sharp arms outstretched. Everything seems to slow down, and as you see the thing hurtling toward you, you realise that it's going to reach you on it's first leap - that must have been at least five metres from standing still...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

PK
You duck back into the previous hangar to perform a weapon check - the cautious Marine lived where the carless one died. Satisfied that your pulse rifle was operating in working order, you stepped back inside the dead technician hangar, scanning the room through the scope of your pulse rifle. Nothing stirrs. Suddenly, you hear a sound from inside the Freighter. The red cargo bay lights - under the freighter's own power - are on, but dim enough that they don't scope out your thermal imaging visor. The sound makes itself apparent as, very soft, footsteps. The figure making them apparently isn't wearing conventional shoes, and certainly not military boots. Suddenly, a figure appears on the loading ramp of the freighter, clad in an all-black skin suit. Covert Ops. The figure spots you at precisely the moment you see it, because it pulls out a silenced pulse pistol and throws itself sideways, rolling across the floor into the shadows behind a pile of stacked crates.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Crazy's eyes opened wide as the thing flung itself towards. He almost paniced, almost froze. But a decade of military training and combat took over. Crazy's thumb flicked the gun to full automatic mode, and his finger squeezed the trigger. The pulse rifle bucked a bullets exploded from the end of the barrel, hurlting towards the alien figure. The first two shots, poorly aimed, went either side of the aliens head, while the third was more accurate. As the alien was almost on top of him, Crazy ducked to the right, dropped his shoulder and rolled away. He came up on one knee, and aimed back towards the alien, ready to fire again if it was still alive.

*PK knew that getting some space would be really helpful to him about now, what with his enemy only armed with a pistol, and him with a scoped rifle. Therefore, he hauled ass as fast as possible across the hangar floor, attempting to both circle around the frieghter and keep himself in cover as much as possible. When he arrived on the other side, he stuck as close to some crates near the wall as possible, then check ed the scope. From where he was, he could now cover to frieghter ramp and the boxes where he knew an enmy was hiding effectively. PK knelt down, ready to pull the trigger at the slightest sign of movement.*

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Falling backwards the pulse rifle dropping to his side, reality catching up with him once more as the realisation hits of what just happened. Despite the rather numbing cold and servere weather conditions, Lewis just lied there for a few seconds rasing his hand close to his face.
"There is now blood on my hands"
Speaking sternly and serious, his mind wandering to thoughts of his wife, sitting at home without him being there. Silently swearing to himself he would be by her side and get through this even if he had to kill thousands, or fall from the wings of his promise and die trying.

Lying there for a few moments more ignoring the growing numb feeling in his body from the cold. Forcibly dragging himself up agaisnt the wind, picking up the rifle and pulling his pack behind him Lewis peers over the edge where the gun fire and grenades originated from. Pulse rifle in hand moving it in a sweeping manner to cover a ninty degree angle, figner on the trigger just in case.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

*Remmon stood still for a few moments as the sheer horror of what had just happened overcame him, but then quickly recovered, pulling the pistol up and aiming directly towards the techie's chest and the creature attached to it*

*A few moments later the sound of gunfire rolled through the corridor as Remmon pulled the trigger on his pulse pistol, firing 6 successive rounds into the creature, enough to kill a man through standard armor and probably significantly overkill against a creature this size, but Remmon was never the 1 to take unneeded risks*

*Immediatly afterwards Remmon hit the comms button on his helmet, expecting the relatively weak signal to just be able to reach the surface from here*

"2nd Luitenant Remmon here, there's something down in the facility, not human. I'm pretty sure all civilian personell is either trapped or dead, I'm coming back up right now."

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Wraith
You continue stomping your way down the dark perimeter corridor of the seventh underground level like some kind of heavily-arned, steel-clad dinosaur. Your guard post was the Staff Canteen on the seventh level - one of two floors allocated to the staff by way of living area. Fortunatly, your post had been between shift transfers when the lights went out - you yourself just about to leave the Marine Barracks, unarmed as the Heavy Marines assigned to guard duty almost always were, armour being too cumbersome and your heavy weaponry being impossible to lift without heavy armour. Naturally, once reports of attackers started coming in, you'd been ordered to fully load-out. Hopefully you'd get to shoot something pretty soon. Your thermal imaging is on, and you can see the corridor clearly despite the lights being out. You'd been able to ride the elevator down, since the technicians had got the auxilliary generators that powered them on the first underground floor working fine, even if the technicians on this floor hadn't. Apart from your heavy footsteps, the corridor is silent. You can see the double door leading inward to the Canteen up ahead, you push through the door and start down the corridor ahead, toward the door that opens directly into the Canteen. Halfway down this new corridor, you pause. Dark red blood coats both walls of the corridor at one point, as well as an irregular patch of the tiled floor. Trouble. Odd trouble though; anything losing that much blood was almost certainly dead, and there was no body in sight...focusing on the double doors up ahead, you see blood stains on the push bar that opens it...

Crazy
I decide whether your shots hit or not, ta.

With the creature flying through the air toward you at such incredible speed, and your pulse rifle being accurate as it is, your three round burst takes it square in the head. Punching through the yellowed carapace easily, the rounds explode one by one, killing the creature instantly in a shower of yellow blood. Dropping to one floor and rolling to the left, you came up on one knee and turned calmly through 180 degrees untill you were looking down your gun sights at where the thing would have landed. It is dead on the floor, with one arm resting limply on a railing of the raised steel deck. A pool of yellow blood surrounds it. Silence, apart from the gentle crackle of the burning generator debris. Suddenly, you see something drop from the cieling all the way to the floor below - it lands with a loud clatter, an air vent grill. Suddenly, five shapes drop down from where the apparent vent opening is. Looking down, you see that they are about the size of a man's hand outstretched, with two normal-looking back legs and clawed front legs. You can't make out what colour they are with your thermal imaging on. One of them rears on its hind legs, letting rip with a keening screech. They scatter into the shadows on all sides of the room. You should probably get out of here...

PK
Dashing around the freighter, attempting to cover the ramp and the crates as you do so, you thankfully manage to avoid any unseen debris laying about the darkned floor, and flatten yourself against a corner on the opposite wall from the one you were at a few moments before. Watching the crates and the loading ramp through your scope, you see nothing, but nonetheless wait. You do so for around ten seconds. Then, just as you're beginning to relax, a powerful blow to the back of your head sends you sprawling to the floor on your front, and your pulse rifle sliding across the floor away from you. Turning onto your back, you look up and, astonished, see the black-clad figure from before seemingly crouching against the wall, half way up its height. Having apparently just kicked you with its right leg, the figure now produces its pulse pistol, aiming it at your head - the laser sight glaring in your eye. It seems to think you're helpless, but you still have your pulse pistol holstered...

Darkling
As soon as the adrenaline begins to fade from your blood, you immediately begin to have doubts. You just killed two men, they had tried to kill you first, of course, and it had been you or them, but two men nonetheless. For a few moments you lie against the Duracrete roof of the building, just staring at the sky. Finally, already growing numb from the cold, you pull yourself up to your feet and peer cautiously over the edge of the roof. Pulse rifle ready, and scanning your zone just like you'd been told in training, you see that there's little immediate need for the gun. Both men are clearly dead. One, the visor of his gas mask shattered and blood leaking through the broken glass, his cold, staring eyes looking up at the sky, also has a hole of considerable size in his chest. The other is slumped face down in the snow - you can see that he is wearing a gas mask as well - and the crimson snow around him indicates that he also died from shrapnel. Both are Marines - clad in Arctic camoflage. Why were they trying to kill you, though? You could check the unit badges on the upper arms of their uniforms - it's only a short drop down to the ground below.

Flapjack
You fire six rounds from your pulse pistol directly into the creature's chest - it appeared to be burrowing into the cavity it created with its front limbs, and had been only shifting from side to side slightly when you shot it. Your bullets punch through its yellow carapace easily, exploding it into yellow gore, the technician's own blood mingled with it. He was dead anyway. Presently, alone in the corridor again, you jump to conclusions and decide that the rest of the staff are dead. But, HQ doesn't respond on your coms...

"Oh sir, yes sir." Jake sneered in reply to the 1st lieutenant's orders, while firing off a perfectly correct salute. Quickly collecting and checking his weapons, Jake then gathers up his various men. "Alright guys, seems some Grinch wants to steal Christmas from us. And are we going to let the sonofab*tch get away with it? F*** NO! So, I want us hitting that connecting tunnel, double time, and once we reach the research facility, I want to find out what's going on, get out, and come back here for some nice R&R. Any of you screw that up, and you won't just get coal in your stocking, you'll get a grenade - without the pin!! Now let's move out!!"

Crazy swings his gun around, the light from its torch lighting up where he aimed, looking for the new creatures that just appeared. Not seeing anything, he slowly started to make his way back towards the ladder, continually looking all around for any more threats. Once he reached the ladder, he climbed back up, holding his pulse rifle in one hand, continually scanning. He really didn't want to die today. Not like this and not on this forsaken planet. He had to get out. He had to find others. He had to live.

*Remmon quickly started up the stairs, deciding that whatever it was he just killed, there where bound to be more of them about and he only had a single clip of ammo for his pistol on him. Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Inspectre
Your shouting has a way of reminding normally-slack Marines that they're meant to be fearce proffesionals. Immediately holding onto their rifles a lot more firmly, the three Marines concerned shout their reply as one.

"Sir, Yes Sir!" They yell, before running off in the direction of the single door leading to a stairwell from which you can get down to the second underground level. You follow them down, then out of the stairwell, then down the long corridor that opens up to you. You pass a heavy reinforced door on the left marked "Armoury". Up ahead is a heavy steel bulkhead. The Marine stop in front of it, and Henley, being an NCO and thus the only one apart from you with access codes, punches in the key combination. The door groans open reluctantly. There are two Heavy Marines standing guard, and as the door opens they lower their weapons warily, watching the darkness beyond. Flashlights on their helmets illuminate the corridor - empty, as far as you can see, but it stretches dozens of metres ahead, into the darkness. The two privates hesitate, which Sergeant Henley surpresses instantly.

"On the double, troops! The Lieutenant gave you orders back there!" He yells, before setting off down the corridor himself at a run. The two privates follow him, and you follow them. The door groans shut behind them. A mildly tiring run later, and you are at another bulkhead - on the other side of this one is the perimeter corridor for underground level 2 of the research facility. Henley punches in an access code, and again the door slides open. O'Sullivan doesn't hesistate this time - which is unfortunate. Two things - roughly the size of a dog, and bright red with armoured carapace covering them, insectid in appearance - leap out from behind the open doorway. Before you can react, O'Sullivan is on the floor with two of one of the creature's six limbs piercing his body through. The creature procedes to gore him with powerful front jaws, seemingly unaware of your presense. Blood bubbles out from the wounds. The second creature turns, suddenly spotting you, and screeches loudly. Its partner is interrupted from its apparent feeding, and turns to stare you down as well...

Crazy
In the absense of a ladder, you run back through the door you passed through moments before, and immediately run into a pair of yellow-ish creatures - the same colour as the thing that attacked you earlier - that are about the size of a man's hand outsretched, the same size as the other things you saw back in the generator room. But they look different from those ones. Both of them rear up on their hind legs when they see you, emitting high pitched shrieks. Looks like they're getting ready to jump at you...

Flapjack
The technician wasn't trapped; and you don't know that's true of the others. So, you were jumping to conclusions. Furthermore I'll be the one who decides what your training does and does not dictate.

One the dead soldiers cold dead eyes looking back up to lewis in a dark voided mockery, trying to shake of the hrash truth of the matter. A few minutes ago Lewis was content with his life, meaninless as it was in the whole grand scheme of the universe but it was his. Now a shattered mirror, as he abruptly ended the life of two others over petty ideals that most likely be forgotten years to come aand become pages in a history book.

Looking away from the dead soldiers face Lewis putting his pack back on, still feeling a little sore from his adventure in trying to get across of roof earlier. Making the small jump down to the lower ledge, bracing his legs proppely as he landed by bending his knee's to absorb the impact. Reaching back just quickly enough to check the pulse rifle was still over his shoulder, starts searching through the bodies for anything of use, making sure to check their insignia's in the process.

"What in hells name is going on here!"

Crazy shouts to no one in particular as he aims his pulse rifle down at the creatures and depresses the trigger, sending a trio of bullets towards each of the creatures, while taking a step back, in case they decide to leap at him and paint the corridor red.

He ripped his pulse pistol from its holster, and let loose a burst of fire, before he even hit the ground. PK then went for his rifle, feeling vunerable without it. With luck, there wouldn't be more of these... people before he could get it*

Upon seeing the two hideous creatures, one of which has already cut down one of his men with little effort, Jake begins singing a little ditty to recover his courage. "oh Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, jingle all the day. Oh what fun it is to kill some motherf***ing aliens!!" As he is completing the song, Jake snaps his pulse rifle up to point at the presently unoccupied one, and apparent leader of the two, flicks his weapon to fully automatic, and then attempts to skewer the thing with a line of exploding shells.

I don't want her to have a rifle anyway.
I hope this isn't any major problem with you.
Also, I'm not really sure how you envision this scene, so I think my post might clash with yours slightly. Not too much, I hope.

Cali sits prefectly still as the two marines make their way into the hallway. Behind her mask her eyes narrow as she gets ready for them to spot her, but they seem content with looking through her earlier post.
She's not excited, not yet, but a calm determination to see these two dead spreads slowly in her body. She thinks. A grenade? No, the walls between the two parties may not hold for the blast. Pump action blasts? No, why taking the risk of killing one, only to have the other one gun her down while she switched shells. Not that she was slow, but still.
That leaves only one option.
A slight click as the shotgun switches over to auto fire and she jumps up, rushes over to the window and raises her weapon.
She pulls the trigger - her thermal vision lights up and blinds her - the glass shatters - 7 shells hit the floor.
