ok for thos of you who dont know what quests are here goes. They did these a while back and as far as I know everyone loved them. there were diffrent things you had to do and you got rewarded for them. some of the more simple ones included build a roid, send a message to an alliance member, join an alliance, and so on and so forth. I would love to see quests come back so if you agree with me post something.

Personally i think this will be a good idea, especially if PA is showing aspirations towards making the community larger. The quests were great back in the days when i myself was only a little ***** and provide an infrastructure and guidance within the vaste grounds or PA itself.
The quests made PA somewhat more of a strategy game rather than lets throw ships this way and that way and hope as most of the younger, less experienced players do.
These can be adapted to all sorts of areas of the community, for instance dont have it as it was and more so towards if you do any task you get those bonuses.

ie initiaite 3 metal roids - for the starters
you could then throw in one or 2 more complex tasks for those who have played before.

Im well aware of the stresses on the coing team and the time this may or may not take, but some of the coding should already be in place from the earlier rounds.

well they were good for new players to follow helped them learn the game
might be a good thing to bring them back in some form or another

Anyone know why they were removed? As I recall it has to do with complaints about being 'forced' to follow a certain research/construction path. That and some of the quests were things like "scan a t10 planet" or "attack a t10 planet" which was rather anoying for those planets. Personally I agree, they were a fun diversion, why not bring them back?

The quests received a bit of criticism when it was alleged that they didnt follow the widely accepted 'optimal' path for growth - it encouraged players to build a PDS Centre early on (and thus faciliting the use of PDS amongst players who could least afford it), among other things.

Also, to develop a really good quest system takes vision plus alot of time and effort, which few people have atm.

Init 6 of each roids
Bonus 1 of each roid

Set engineering preferences (Bonus 5k of each res)

Construct a Research Lab (Bonus 2 roid of each type)

Research HCT II (Bonus 3 roids of each type)

Construct a Factory (Bonus 4 roids of each type)

In general there is an avg tickplan people follow, take the most basic and reward people for doing them

If there was some general interest, I'd give the writing/themed a go... someone would have to feed it into ticks mind you... But I'll help if it's viable

I'd also help with quest writing, maybe one for each race?
Quests help all players as well as returning players who dont know many of the changes

All you had to do was send an attack and recall it after it had launched

The quests were a good way to get new people going in PA, and for the older people it was just free stuff they got so i don't see why those should complain.

It might also be helpful in getting the concept of XP over to new players, if one of the quests were say, capture X roids from a planet of greater value.

Personally I thought they added an extra dimension to the game when coming up with start plans. If they were reintroduced they could have resource and XP rewards so following them would be optional.

I liked them too but i think they can be improved. Especially in their form. It would be nice to have them looking like some role playing.
'A strange spaceship has been signaled at coords XX:YY:ZZ Send a reconnaissance fleet'. Reward : you've discovered an ancient civilization artefact boosting your research by 3 ticks.
There could also be special quests for ministers that would benefit the whole gal.
MoD:
'Send a diplomatic ship to your neighbour countrpart (in cluster) to improve trading relations'. Reward :+2% per tick to the gal fund.

The best thing one of those quest could do is be a guide of how to get on irc in the correct channels. That would be hard to code though.

Ooh! just think! if we can post his cell/Sms #... people could sms him while he was in class, with the gf, sleeping, etc. It would be much more efficient!

that could work since we need to put up our telephone number on signup anyway

Then he can manually add roids for everybody
