car breaking in drama
my friend's car has been broken into :drama: the odd thing is nothing seems to have been broken, theres no shattered glass, all the windows were down the door unlocked but everything is working fine. They left the car wide open and didn't take it!!!! we've pretty much clicked they were looking for a satnav because the car is ransacked, intact but someone has obviously looked all over it. We're 90% sure it was some odd looking pikey irishmen we spotted the other day walking around all the cars in the street for no reason. Friend is getting a crime number thing just incase something is wrong, and it seems the appropriate thing to do. Bit of a shock but no major problem.
Except how the **** did they get in the car? the alarm didn't sound, its like they had their ownfob?!!?
I so feel like putting up a sign saying 'pure pwnage we still have the satnav' outside the front door but i have a horrible feeling they'll just comeback and stab us before stealing it and the booze.

Re: car breaking in drama
ps the only :drama:drama: is that its absolutely set a neighbour off on one about crime and how people should be hanged, he came out of his house after twitching the curtains. I don't want to say anything because well hes really into it, its a very minor thing in life really, im strangely pleased, my week was looking boring.
Oh yeah like you people have things going on

Re: car breaking in drama
What sort of car is it? (I don't know anything about cars but I presume some locks are easier to open than others)

Re: car breaking in drama
You can open most old cars with nothing more than a wooden wedge and a coat hangar.
I presume, because you had an alarm, that this isn't the case though.

Re: car breaking in drama
Place i used to work at .. someone stole one of my co-workers coat, however .. what was odd was they emptied the pockets 1st .. of wallet (everything left in it) and mobile phone and left them on a nearby window ledge.
The guy didnt know wether to be angry or gratefull, he did report the theft and after that they put a new lock on the door, even tho we guessed the door had been left open because there was no sign of a break in.

Most likely is the doors/boot were unlocked.

Re: car breaking in drama
It was a bmw, this was the most ninja like thing ive ever seen. No he hadn't left it unlocked, they couldn't steal it as its a bit of an arse to maneuver out and would have taken a good 5 minutes. Two other cars in adjacent streets were apparently broken into, the locks drilled out. Nothing was taken since noone left satnavs. Almost all the car break ins ive ever seen whilst growing up consisted of a spotty teen taking a pebble of stone and jamming it against a window - breaking it then nicking the car.
I almost want to shake their hands im that impressed. Possibly relevant slashdot

Re: car breaking in drama
When my car stereo got nicked I was at least relieved that they hadn't broken any windows to get in. The only evidence that they left was a small dent behind the passengers door handle where i presume they jimmied the lock and some scratches in the plastic around the stereo where they'd obviously prised it out. The only reason I knew that my car had been broken into that night was because he'd hit the parking light which I went to investigate, otherwise I wouldn't have known until the morning after at the earliest.
Still, I was pretty pissed that they'd nicked my stereo and needless to say I'm now super careful about ensuring that I take the front off everytime I get out

Re: car breaking in drama
I can remember when almost every ford escort key would open most ford cars.
It's only a matter of time b4 someone creates a *key* that bleeps open alot of cars, hell all you would have to do is walk down the street .. and press the button .. note which ones open.. then come back at night and steal from them.

Re: car breaking in drama
My brothers fiesta got broken into once. They destroyed the door getting in then discovered that if they had actually seen in the window it was pointless. The steering wheel was covered with a full cover lock and the car didnt have a radio, just cables for one. Oddly they didnt take the biscuits from under the passenger seat.

Re: car breaking in drama
If its a BMW then certain models and years are currently susceptible to 'technology savvy' thieves as its possible to get a 'universal key opening' for them. There was a piece on youtube about it and its been in the news recently.
It basically means you can open the car up without any forced entry.

I have the same locking mechanism so im constantly worried If I park up somewhere some faggot with a laptop will come and nick my car

Wouldn't have thought BMW sell these to anybody other than dealerships. As long as the car has coded keys then surely they can't be started with the keys made from the kit. Can they?
I hope my Mercedes is more secure than BMW's
