Oh how amusing this is. Talk about US setting out how things should be done.

I'm quite sure Vermillion could prove me wrong or right here, but last time the Americans went to war in that region, they lost 50k soldiers. Vietnam lost 3 million. 1 Million should be a walk in the park.

Give me an ultimatum like that and more troops would be on the way today. They are bluffing, I say call it.

Nah, but with so many other stupid comments in this thread I thought I would throw one in as well.
Even the title of the thread is begging for lameness.

This is how North Korea 'does' diplomacy, you see.
It is not to be taken as evidence that 'THERE WILL BE A WAR AND SE ASAI WILL BE NUKED DEN BUSH WILL INVADE CHINA LOLOLOLOLOLOL.'

Theres really nothing to worry about. If they had the weapons, they would have had the calm, and the US would probably not go to attack at that high a risk.

We know what the US should do:
Pull all troops out of SK. That'll drop the 'problem' square in the lap of China. SK will get what they want, and when Japan begins building their missile shield, China will freak out and quit propping up the NK regime in exchange for a diplomatic relation with Japan.
Given that that is obvious, and knowing Bush, we can simply assume that he will do the 'anti-smart.'
We will put more troops in SK, and China will be forced to spend more money supporting the NK gov. Probably giving them some serious ICBM technology.

I don't even know why we need troops there at all. The South Korean army would easily repel an attack, not to mention if things did start to look bad the Japanese would send troops. They might be outnumbered, but conscripts with 1950's era tanks and planes aren't a match for the what South Korea and Japan have.

They have a "ground self defense force" which is somewhat large (~200,000 if I remember and the info I got was up to date). They have a good air force and navy too.

If we pull troops out of SK, then NK will just attack them. Remember, the war is still very much alive in their perspective.
China will just sit by and clap.

North Korea would get destroyed, though. It wouldn't be alive then, especially after the citizens in the North started getting three squares a day.

so what? sell weapons to south korea then (maybe that would even stop them using their money for subsidies and you wouldnt need to annoy the rest of the world with your steel tarrifs )
