Your thoughts on the Pope
On the one hand, I think it should be the hand of God that should take his current position, on the other hand, why should it be unable for him to retire... Perhaps you die as the Holy Father, you're not born that way so why can't you be relieved of duty.
I think it is not nice for him anymore to do his job. Do you think a Pope is entitled to quit and why?

He's the Pope - he can do what ever he wants. If he wanted to abdicate, he would. He obviously wants to go on.
And the problem about there only being old Popes is because you really need to be a Cardinal to be elected Pope, and I don't suppose there are many Cardinals under 60. They can't just pick a twenty-year-old off the street, give him the hat and say "You're Pope!".

The Holy Father comment is void as it could easily be God's will that the pope retired.
(I think he should stay till he dies! I never had a pope die in my lifetime, dammit and I want to know how it works!)

All the Cardinals sit in the Vatican and argue until they decide which one of them gets to be Pope.
(I suspect (hope) that those who have abused children are out of the running)

I've seen a couple die, his predecessor, Pope John Paul the first, only lived a month or two after he became Pope.
He could retire and let another Pope be named if he wished, but he doesn't.
In the past, when a Pope became to feeble to carry out his duties he would be locked away until he died, and his staff would simply carry on in his name making the world think the orders came from the Pope.

Yes, that is pretty much how it goes. The Cardinals are locked in until they decide, and no one outside the room knows exactly how the decision is made, since teh Cardinals are not allowed to tell the details. Every day a vote is taken, and then they burn the votes and something to color the smoke so the crowd knows by the color if a Pope has been selected yet, I think black for no, white smoke for yes. Once elected the person chosen has to accept the post, if he refuses they must choose again.

They're going for someone really old actually:/
They've had JP for a long time, and they want the next one to have a bit of a shorter 'term' for kind of a breather.
At least that's what they told me.

Seeing as the prophesies of St Malachy say that there will only be two more popes before the "final days of the Holy Roman Church", if I was a Cardinal I'd be picking someone as young as possible (possibly a newborn baby in fact).

a) link pls
b) as a good christian the return of christ is something to look forward to. that's when we get to watch all the atheists tortured etc. so, were such prophesies accurate, i'd make someone pope, shoot him, make someone else pope, and shoot him.
course, then i'd be a bad christian and i'd get tossed in with the fornicaters and homosexuals...

I feel exactly the same.
I saw him saying a mass in St Peter's Square. It was like he was glowing or something. He just looked so... holy.
And that was only 6 months or so ago.

I bought 3000 shares in the Pope on Celebdaq on sunday, hoping that he would die\get caught kiddy fiddling\have something to say about Second Coming, and I would make my fortune.
However, he now seems to have been removed without a word of warning. I sense a conspiracy.
At least I still have Charlotte Church though, although since she is unlikly to die or rape young children in the near future I doubt I'll see much of a return

My shares in the pope vanished along with my money, but I shall now invest in Jacko. I also have it on semi-reliable sources that Ben Affleck is getting married on friday, so hes also a good tip.

dunno, murdering is pretty bad but then there is always atheism too.
it actually says that there can be an unlimited amount of popes between this next one and peter. this next one is just the last of the prophesied ones (quite a coincidence:/)
Quote:
"It has been noticed concerning Petrus Romanus...that the prophecy does not say that no popes will intervene between him and his predecessor designated Gloria olivoe. It merely says that he is to be the last, so that we may suppose as many popes as we please before "Peter the Roman"."

completely agree.
i guess in terms of evangelism there are advantages to theological organizations, but in general i'd have to say that once christianity became the socially advantageous religion to have it went downhill in terms of quality of members. oh well.
