Setting up a LAN
Hey guys me and a friend are just gonna play some one on one tonight and buy 2 ethernet cards and just a connecting cable to set it up.
Any difficulties I should be aware of or is it as easy as that?

NIC's are cheaper (unless you mean NIC's by ethernet cards)
Also, what OS are you using?
(this prolly belongs on Tech Support, btw )

1. Make sure you get a crossover cable.
2. As long as Windows is set up properly yes it is as simple as that.
3. This belongs in tech support.

Being a 'serious-business' admin, you just lost 45 confidence points, meaning your biological standing is now somewhere between plankton and amoebe.

Don't forget to enable sharing on your hard drives. XP's network Wizard does not do that automatically, which left me wondering why mine wasn't working until I figured it out on my own.

On topic
You'll actually need two NIC's for each computer, as you need one crossed and one uncrossed cable. A hub and a router would also help, you'd get alot less lag in games with them.

WHY?
This makes no sense whatsoever. Why go to the expense of buying 2 NICs, a hub, and 2 lengths of cat5 when you could just use 2 NICs and 1 length of cat5 crossover?
Explain please.
