Yes, I did. Still, most posts in this thread don't make much sense. Zeus says it's private galaxies, 10 peeps per galaxy, round 8 rules, P2P, etc.
Why waste energy on debating the issues that have already been decided, unless, of couse, you are hoping they would somehow miraculously change it to r3 free random game... ;-)
There is actually other issues about the speedgame to be discussed (that have actually been discussed) which aren't actually ALREADY SET by the original post.

Well, let's list some reasons
1) The people weren't that active at that time
2) The server DID NOT hold those galaxies very well
3) The ticker took about 30 minutes to run.
Imagine a speedgame of 1 minute ticks where ticker runs each tick for over 60 seconds
It's gonna be messy even with 45 second ticks. With current 5,000 players, it's somewhat safe to assume that the ticker runs in a few minutes. Still, speedgame is more hectic, people load pages more often that in normal PA, and hence the load per user is heavier. Doing even 500 simultaneously is quite a lot.

why round 3 stats ? (question not criticism b4 you lot barbaque my behind)
I never did round 3 so am interested why they are so popular.
IMO I think it would be more popular with stats that ppl know (i.e rd 8) or if they are going to use old stats they could be published way before the start of the speedround. Also a proposed set of dates for it to happen would be helpful, make sure it doesnt conflict with what little rl I have left.

Well, as far as I remember, r3 stats were extremely simple to play with, just listen to what ships to build and do it. With r8 stats, there might be a bit more TACTICS involved in the game.

you've got other tactics with the speedgame.. but ziks are certainly not useless..

1: make random
2: 50 gals
3: 10clusters
4: a antire new surprising stats
5: ships with the name of good KNOWN players
6: set minimum attacking to 30% instead of 20%
7: perhaps add a new fleet, so we get 4fleets total
8: 36 hoursgaming, with 2breaks off 8 hours each
9: 1min ticks
10. make it AFTER PA is done, so we can use pa servers for lesser problems and faster loading
PA Crew: Will PA be at the gathering in Norway next year? Would have been fun

hmm what a thread. I don't ever think I have read so much time with as little walue as this. Everyone just saying: r3 stats and why is that? most don't say why and to be honost I don't think they know why cause in my opinion its kinda difficult to find any reasons why. Other say because they are simple... PA is strategy for gods sake. its not meant to be simple, but its meant to give the ppl with a sharp mind the advantage just like in rl.
Take yourself together ppl and lets get a serious debate going. I'll try to state my opinion and then see if the standard of the discussion will be a little better after this post.
First of all I think it would be best if it would be a WC and not a normal speed round. The reason for this is that there are some more intense and interesting combat and not least in the final round. In speed game you just have to win 1 battle to be the winner, but if its played as WC you need to win 2 times and it will give a more correct winner because it eliminates some of the luck that is involved in PA, and well there is nothing as the NICE fight between the regions :-)
But ofc if its not posible to have a WC then it should just be a speed game, but I honostly think that far more would play if its set up as a WC.
Then there is the discussion about which stats to use and I realy don't think its a topic that needs to be discussed. OFC it should be the r8 stats cause they are far the best stats we have seen untill now in PA. They are both the most complicated, the ones with the most opportunities, the most advanced and the most balanced(ofc there need to be made a few changes in some of the races, but nothing major). This is also the stats that everyone knows and the stats which has brought the most fun and most balanced round in PA history. Therefore I think its clear that it shall be r8 stats just like its stated in the first post in this thread. I realy don't understand why so many ppl are saying that they want r3 stats cause everyone I talk to on MIRC want to play with r8 stats.
If its played as a WC I can see the problems in getting the rounds running b4 new years eve, but maybe the first 4 rounds can be completed and then we can play the finals and the semi finals after new years eve. This will involve some 2 more works for te PA crew and I understand why they might have to decide not to do it this way because of that, but all I'm saying is that this will bring the most fun and the most players.
If they decide to play it as a normal speed game they should place it b4 the new years eve.
then now for how long should we be playing? yeah well in my opinion the 12 hours game, 12 hours rest, 12 hours game is great, but it would also be fun and most of all demanding to play 16 hours, 8 hours rest and then another 16 hours.
Everything above that would be too demanding and will only scare ppl away which will make the game less fun.
And ofc it shall not be free. First of all PA crew can not afford that and second of all that would ruin the game. It will be a mass of farms, multi accounts and unserious players just like in the first rounds of PA so that is not even a topic to discuss in my oppinion.
I only think that we miss to bring one more thing up now and that is weather to have private gals or random gals.
In my oppinion it should be private gals nomatter if its played as a WC or as a normal speed game. My reason for this, or should I say reasons, are many. First of all most ppl don't want to pay to play ONLY one weekend if they can't be sure that they will not end up with ppl they like and ppl they can trust. They don't want to pay for something when luck(is the most important factor to decide if he/she will have failure or success). Its a fact that many will have to take 2 days free from job just to play(especialy cause its in December) and many of them will not do it unless they are sure that they do it to help their friends and get to play with ppl they like.
So there is no doubt that if PA crew decide not to make the gals private then they will lose a lot of players.
Second of all the preparations to the Speed games is about half of the games and the most serious ppl spend hours and hours to prepare themselves. This is an aspect in the speed games that you can simply not take away from the speed round. This is not normal PA where you have days and even more days to get to know your gal m8s in an eventuel random gal. This is a game where you play with your best and most trustworthy friends cause you know how they play and they know how you play and together the most tight group has a very important advantage.
The thrid thing that I realy don't want the PA crew to take away from the speed games running over 1 weekend is the society and friendships in rl that it is creating. I remember from the WC that ppl gathered together, some even traveled 1500 km, to play together and to have fun together. Please don't take that away from the game cause that will be the biggest loss that the speed games could suffer...
And then ofc. the speed gams should run on the main server so that more than 500 ppl can play, but even my dog is clever enough to figure that out so should not realy that much of a topic to discuss. Since PA crew has decided to let the normal PA run untill the 23rd of december they will have to either change the day to end the round or what I think would be better, simply just stop the normal PA round for 3 days(or whatever is needed) so we can play the speed game.
I hope that this will start a serious depate with some argumentation instead of just saying something without backing it up.

I think Zeus' initial post leaves out the possiblity for WC and states that the final game is a one-round-speed-game. (Although I would also like a WC-thingy again). About the time of the speed game: Do you seriously think there will be a lot of ppl playing it before new years eve? Most students are busy with exams in December. Most ppl wants to spend the christmas with family and friends. So a speed round should either be before Christmas (not likely due to r8 going on) or after new years eve for the best turn out. I agree on using r8-stats (shouldn't be a discussion imo). *prods Zeus to get some polls up*
