It's basically over, Bush carried Florida, and Ohio is really looking like it is going to go for Bush... go to www.cnn.com for the best results

It really does now depend on who wins Ohio. If Kerry loses Ohio, then I'm predicting:
Kerry - 256
Bush - 274

Even if Bush loses Ohio (very unlikely) he can still win just by carrying NM and Wisconsin... there are just more ways for Bush to win than Kerry, you gotta love the electoral system... thank you Alexander Hamiliton....

Re: Election 2004.
I will be very disapointed in Iowa if Kerry wins there, I mean what the hell, Bush absolutely owns the heartland with Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Missouri, etc. Can someone please explain to me why Iowa does not follow suite?

Re: Election 2004.
Kerry now only has an 800 vote lead in Iowa, its about damn time they fall in line with their region...
Also Bush lost the popular vote last time by half a million votes and is now 3.3 million in the lead.... quite suprising.... even for a republican.
also on another note, the democrats got ass raped on the house and senate seats....

Re: Election 2004.
NBC has called Ohio and Alaska for Bush, giving him 269 by their tally, which would be as good as a win since the Republicans will control the tie-breaking House.
Looks like the Republicans will pick up a seat in the Senate and 5 in the House.

More than a seat, CNN is reporting 2 gains for the republicans with dems losing in florida (my state) and tom daschele(sp?) losing in South Dakota not being a part of those two gains.

Re: Election 2004.
Ohio still has 250 thousand votes to be counted and the vote is 51/49 to bush but I reckon that Kerry can still swing Ohio, it's just going to take a couple days before we know.
However with Republicans in charge of the senate AND the house there is little to be gained with Kerry winning...

Provisional and absentee ballots aren't counted until 11 days after the election.
It's possible that Ohio will remain in the balance until then.

Re: Election 2004.
in substance there isnt much of a difference between the two, at least not in the things that concern us here in europe. tbh, id rather have a president in the usa who openly shows our differences than someone who manages to hide them in diplomacy.

I think there has been some foul play. In West Virginia the population is mostly students and Miltiary. Nearly all of the students would have voted for Kerry, if they had been allowed to vote. For some reason they were denied the chance.

Absolutely. I just keep thinking "twats", "lying bastards" etc. Lying because the exit polls suggested wins for Kerry, so I'm thinking they were too embarassed to say they reelected the thickest elected leader of all time.
Who's coming to war against America with me? (sorry Tact)
That or we could just kill Bush (ok that's like the 3rd time I've suggested this, I expect the FBI to be knocking on my door soon.

Re: Election 2004.
So the white house has declared it a Bush win...
I noticed this though
Quote:
"President Bush's decisive margin of victory makes this the first presidential elections since 1988 where the winner received the majority of the popular vote," he said.
|
from here
Thats a very sad inditement of the U.S. election system, that more people voted for the loser every election for the past 16 years yet the guy with the least number of votes became president.
*shakes head*
It would take America, wouldn't it...

No party seems to cater exactly to what i want however Democtrates at least appear to be more intelligent *shrug*

It means that Bush is the first winner since '88 to get more than 50% ("the majority") of the vote, not that he's the first to get more votes than the loser. Normally it's like 49:48 with 3% third-parties or something similar.

Re: Election 2004.
I'm betting that the Republicans will now also win in 2008, unless the Democrats pull out a pretty bloody spectacular candidate. (Which they won't.)
The Democrats need a candidate who:
- Has a good record.
- Has a personality.
- Is moderate.
Clearly, no such candidate exists atm. Well, he does, but he's called Bill Clinton.

Re: Election 2004.
Hillary nominated = Automatic loss for the Democrats.
Arnie wouldn't be nominated; he's too liberal. He's great as a Republican in California, where he could pretty much pass himself off as a Democrat if he wished, but he would simply be chewed up and spat out by the Republicans nationally. Oh, and that rule about a Presidential nominee having to be born in The US.
Cheney will be determined to get the 2008 nomination, I'm guessing, heart problems and old age or no.

Re: Election 2004.
These numbers seem very different from the exit polls - I suspect something fishy is going on.
Is there any way the UN or some other election watchdog can call the election null and void?

i think thats a bit premature... it depends completely on what happens over the next 4 years. If iraq turned into another vietnam i doubt the republicans would be too popular. then theres the economy... etc.
