Happiness
I was thinknig earlier of the unnecessary things that people do which makes them unhappy. By simply cutting certain actions out of your life you can become happier (or at least less miserable).
I'm going to start my very short list here and see what everyone else can add to it.
1) Don't watch/read the news
2) Don't listen to angry music too often
3) Don't watch television if you can download the TV shows
OK, now you go!

Re: Happiness
The fact that on any channel (other than the BBC, obviously) you get over 25% of time dedicated to adverts. It is my belief that the constant barragement of advertisements promoting mediocrity and mass consumerism is menally draining.

4. Do your best to be early everywhere, so then if you are delayed, you'll arrive on time and won't be stressed and annoyed when you get to your destination.

Funnily enough I think the thread title is kind of misleading as these are things which will make you less unhappy. At best this can get to a neutral feeling of indifference.

Although it could free up time for you to pursue activities that you actually enjoy, and thus promoting happiness indirectly, whilst simultaneously reducing unhappiness (as you stated) should result in an overall improved demeanour.
Maybe.

Dear Self,
1) Don't go to work.
2) Always remember to buy stout, even if you don't feel like drinking it at that moment, as unlikely as that may sound.
3) Do not do something because it seems someone else would appreciate it.
4) Say Ωuck you more often.
Yours sincerely,
Self

That's pure comedy there. You can feel just a little bit less depressed when you read this horn, you succeeded at something you attempted to do.

Re: Happiness
Spending time with family?
Going to church?
These are meant to increase happiness? Really?
This seems to be getting to introspective and metaphysical people. Lighten up and stop saying you'll do/stop doing things which you've been saying for years.
Think 'outside the box'.

Re: Happiness
Ok, let's take one example.
'Spend more time with the family' is something a lot of people say they wish they did. They repeat it every few months for many years and nothing every gets done about it.
I am not interested in this kind of pointless introspection (at least not in the thread).
I am more interested in practical changes to your lfie which require no actual effort. In fact, the changes in lfie which require you to stop doing something megative which is easily definable. 'Stop hating myself' is not such a change and requires a lot of mental training.
This thread is not for the 'quick-fix' but it is for things which are directly applicable to life. Such as 'stop watching/reading the news.'

Re: Happiness
go out whenever a situation presents itself, whether or not you care about or know the people doesn't really matter. only one way to find out. situation can't get much worse happiness-wise can it? not much to lose.
don't reject new ideas straight off, instead start doing things you normally wouldn't take into consideration, without giving it too much thought.
act upon impulse not reason.
though the cool ppl around will say, "but hey, i always do that, its what makes me so ridiculously cool it hurts". in that case, this is not for you, it's for the introverted folks that the internet never has a lack of. (or for the ppl whose heads are NOT up their asses)
