I don't think ignorance and racism can be wholly linked to poverty or circumstance. Jade Goody's wealth hasn't stopped her from being an idiot.

That said id question the reaction, to the apparent over reaction. The complaints were everything to do with celebrity culture and to a far lesser extent racism and bullying. Though she isn't famous in white britain, Shilpa Shetty has apparently achieved a fair degree of artistic success. Her fans voted in higher numbers and were more devoted than those of Jade Goody - that probably has something to do with her having achieved fame though merit rather than BB. Cameron Diaz, Angeline Joile, Kate Winslet or anyone with a large devoted fan base, would have aroused similar reactions. The reaction was proportional to her 'fame' As ste's link pointed out, theres been racism in BB in the past.


edit what im trying to point out is the bigger reaction was because she was a celebrity and people 'identified' with her beforehand. The public hasn't reacted in a similar manner when 'normal people' were on the recieving end of bullying/racism
