Nice and healthy food is expensive. The British can't be bothered to spend any time cooking. Fast-food is engineered to be addictive or moreish at the very least (hello aspartame and MSG). And what dante said, and in that regard I'd be interested in any statistics that correlate expected quality of life and self-preservation.
