i'd let you have hardcore, albeit grudgingly, but most bands that call themselves "something-punk" (pop-punk, ska-punk, or for that matter 'emo-punk') have no political message which makes them, in fact, not punks. john cooper-clarke was a punk; mark hoppus is not.
