ND always plays the same, NAP a couple of good alliances and ride on their coat tails. That isn't to say ND tries to stay out of fights, they've clearly been involved in the various wars. The reason they don't get many incs is that there's always bigger threats to deal with first: "Meh, no worries, we can always go kill ND later, let's deal with the real threats first".
Most of the time, that's true. That's why ND hardly ever wins a round, despite having a good run early and mid round. This time around, Ultores and fAnG just held on too long and too short. If the round had been a week shorter or longer, Fang would've won.

ROCK wasn't really gang banged. It was mostly FANG and ND hitting us, with some random incs thrown in for good measure. In any case, I wouldn't call that the turning point of the round for ROCK. The turning point was when we left the Apprime/CT/ROCK block that was largely in place to put ROCK at #1. Worst political decision of the round. After that, it was only a matter of time for faNg and ND to start eyeing our roids. Combine that with the shoddy night-time availability (I certainly wasn't around) and the daily crashing (of small fry and top planets alike) and you get a massacre.
All that said, I don't think ROCK had much chance of winning the round to begin with. The decision to turn our backs on Apprime/CT merely killed what little chance we had. It could actually have turned out much worse, but they were too busy with Ultores and fAnG to punish us for that choice.
P.S. Props to CT for fighting the good fight.
