BF had better politics, Ult the superior alliance
I was talking about the point before they stopped caring and started crashing, two weeks ago now. Ult could have played the Asc intervention a lot better than they did. Asc was riven with internal dissension over attacking Ult. Ult could have sat back while it had its minions and sympathizers (rogues, ND, HR) hit Asc. Had it done so the Asc would still have been dragged down (more slowly) while BF would have also been held back.
Asc never really attacked Ult apart from the first day so there would essentially have been two separate wars BF/CT vs Ult would have continued as it had been going, ie stalemate. While Asc vs the victims of its bashing would have damaged Asc. Ult would then have been able to either wear BF down or if it could not then try turn Asc to its side (as indeed happened after six days).

And never would I deny that Ult was the superior alliance, though the 5 or so alliances they assembled to take down Asc suggests it was not actually Ult vs 90% of the universe. Anti-ult was no doubt a majority, but not quite so great.
