I've got pretty bad acne too, my GP has been giving me regular crap for some time (stuff for topical acne), he then gave me antibiotics and told me to take them for a month, nothing happened - I came back a month after finishing them and said taht nothing happened and he was like "oh you were supposed to come back to me when you finished them" - he didn't tell me anything about coming back -_-
I asked him to be referred to a specialist and I've recentely started to take "Roaccutane" which is not an antibiotic, its supposedly the most effective treatment but may have some side effects (small chance of getting depression (which will go if you stop taking it) and something with the liver). Its also the fastest effective treatment (only 4 months)

I've used all of the clearasil products etc in the shops before, thinking that these were just normal spots but it really didn't help much - of course it did help a little and reduce the amount of spots a little, but didn't stop the problem. (I still use the special soaps while taking the medication)
