Well, the biggest issue here is the way i see it, not the "security" of the buddypacks, but more the chance of avoiding getting lots of galaxies filled with dead planets from the start, which I see as a somewhat bigger handicap.

The buddy packs nowadays mostly consist of 2-3 alliances or more, so the "security issue" is already compromised before the ticks start.
