I may change my stance on this issue.

While I believe that animated GIF banners are an abomination at least they don't overstep the line like the current gen of flash animated banners do.

Having seen more and more recent examples of flash banners dishing out unsolicited sound and sometimes even taking over an entire page I would rather an animated gif banner any day.
