Usually, yeah. Although you can get a 14.1" hybrid that runs a Gfg7600, a T7200, and 2GB RAM for 1300e or so, which isn't "too much" for the portability. Depends what you need, of course.

There's a huge difference between a card that has 64mb and a card that has 256mb. A 64 can't possibly run a resolution modern screens run, can it? I guess it has more to do with what sort of a card you have and how much RAM will the card realistically "need". A desktop GeForce 8800 will definately enjoy the 512MB ram, especially if you plug it to a large television and run it on a very high resolution. A laptop GeForce 7600 definately doesn't need more than 256.
