As Yahwe has said the sample size is small, but the Republican party today isn't really the same thing as it was under Eisenhower or even Nixon. Supply side economics is an abject failure and somehow the "fiscal conservatives" Reagan, Bush and Bush have managed to be the only presidents since WW2 under which the national debt as a proportion of GDP increased. I put it to you that this is not a coincidence.
