It doesnt really matter what people say, it only matters what they do. Most people will talk all kinds of nonsense and will probably even believe a lot of it, but at the end of the day, its your actions that define what you really think (literally). The only value studies like these have are as part of a socio-psychological investigation into why people are inclined to tell pollsters certain things (and this itself could be quite enlightening).
