Unless you're on the tube, in which case look straight ahead, avoid eye contact at all times, and don't say anything, ever (except possibly "excuse me" in an irritated tone if someone's standing on the left of an escalator*, although even this is optional, and simply pushing them out of the way is perfectly normal).
