There's a lot of anecdotal evidence about obscure bands actually hosting their albums on Oink in order to get more exposure. There's also been a large number of high quality leaked pre-release recordings, that were basically rips of the final thing, that started appearing after a run of high profile poor leaks which leads to conspiracy theories about the bands leaking their own albums to make sure people hear it as they intended.
