Ignoring, as you say, the apparant "latent racism", that piece misses the mark with Rocky so much it's painful. The fact that Rocky loses is not some forced nod to realism, it's the core of the character movement of the film: the changing of Rocky from someone who goes nowhere and makes excuses about how life didn't give him a fair break to someone who values self-improvement, and gains pride from his achievement without looking at what he didn't manage.
To suggest that Rocky has a victim for the white man because he is shown to work harder than that talky negro is not only misreading the subtext of the film but ignoring what is actually put in front of you.
