If they had simply shown some kind of energy-field you'd be saying exactly the same thing.

Man travels to the end of the universe, somehow becomes more than man and travels back in time and floats around in space. Yeah. Unpretentious!
Cool message for a movie though. If you can make it to the end of the universe you too can become a foetus that floats around in space.
