The lead character was lifted striaght out of Star Wars (Han Solo), and the plot and setting are pretty much identical (a tyrannical empire seeks to rule universe! A plucky band of rebels and their trusty spaceship seeks to oppose them! The sole representative of the empire is a ruthless-yet-still-human type who the audience can identify with at crucial points!). Serenity has better dialogue and hotter girls but that's about it.
