It's only a pseudo-problem if you undervalue how much the welfare state and social protection defines European polities, which you obviously would being an economic liberal. Also, assuming the British model is the modal model instead of the exception is a little problematic if you're discussing European politics; although the economic liberalisation agenda of the European Union does support a descent of the welfare model, granted, but not its destruction.
