this is what I'm saying. For most people it's not possible to watch every minute of every game (or even one game a week) and motd is all they have to base their opinions on.

Bad players get good reputation and good players get bad reputations, depending on what the good people at the BBC decide to show. For players from your own club this shouldn't really be an issue, but when it comes to internationals it makes things that much more difficult to hold a balanced view.
