I wouldn't think either, though the process involved and the description that experienced guitar players have difficulty with this game suggest it may be the latter.

You don't strum strings or move your hand the full length of the frett, it's a game format based around timing and hitting buttons in sequence with what's happening on screen. Hence why I referred to it as DDR with a guitar.
