We stayed in a Casino Hotel, so we were right in the thick of the city. I'm sure the middle white class suburbs are similar, however the city itself was just trash. San Fran lacks the French Quarters and Mardi Gras, but I would assume it to be similar, just not as bad. As for the fog, I'm 75% sure it was smog... black, at an un-natural altitude, and the air just didn't
feel clean.
I've never been to LA or San Fran, but if any of you have ever been to Salt Lake City... that place is the definition of stink.
Fact: Personal Firearm sales went up 50% in the Houston area the week after Katrina.
Why?
Because the residents knew all the looting scum from New Orleans were coming to stay in Houston.
