Because people are cowards who think only about their own success ingame. They dont care to stand up and fight for a newer alliance and actually be a person to be recognized from the other mass. I believe everyone can do well in good circustamses, different thing is to perform well if you are the one carrying others to better success and maybe not have the def fleet available each time.
