Age of Magic

"Magic can be divided into 8 elements, or essences. Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light, Shadow, Time, and what we have decided to call 'Soul'. These are of course, the common every day elements of nature that surround us. Those who learn to control them according to their own will are said to possess magical abilities. These elements of magic are linked to certain colors that we have used as their symbols.

Water-Blue
Light-Yellow
Shadow-Black
Time-Purple
Soul-Orange

When magic was first discovered, the first sages created one ring for each element, each one infused with magical ability, to help them learn to control the elements. Over time, as magic became more and more widespread, these rings became unnecessary. Rather than destroy these historic relics, we, your highnesses 8 essence sages, have sealed them away in a sanctuary and protected them from evil forces. We now having mastered the commanding of all elements, we humbly suggest to his higness that we be granted permission to research the mixing of these essences to produce greater spells.

Thus is the written the story of how magic came about. It is now a time where magic flourishes. Children learn simple tricks by the time they enter grade school, and very lack any magical ability at all. These are predominately those who have their own moral problems with it (for the most part dwarves) and those with a severe intelligence handicap, such as cows. The kingdoms of Kalidor, Islandia, Galusha, and the judgedom of Kish live in peace, rapidly advancing their knowledge of the arcane arts. Each kingdom contains regions which co-exist with it, but are nevertheless not directly controlled by the country. The elves and dwarves prefer to keep to themselves for the most part, and their neighboring countries do not force their will upon them. Kalidor, Galusha, Islandia, and Kish are all seperated by the Brycean Sea, but through teleportation and sea travel, communications are not lacking. Then the day of change began, with only a few noticing anything different at all..........

BASIC KINGDOM INFORMATION

Kingdom of Kalidor--Southern Continent, ruled by human King Tean, mostly plains, capital city is Furrowind. Renegade swamp and the High Forest are points of interest.

Kingdom of Islandia---Western Continent, ruled by human Queen Gwendolyn, sea faring nation with powerful navy, capital city is Mar, contains a small amount of forests, mountains, and is rumored to have a hobbit shire in the northern tip.

Kingdom of Galusha--Northern Continent, ruled by human Queen Alexa, cousin of King Tean. Capital city is Larinor. Very mountinous region where the dwarves and gnomes feel quite at home. Dracena Peak is the tallest mountain in the world, with the black forest to its east.

Judgedom of Kish--Kish has left the monarchy style of government and is now ruled by a system of judges. Spracket the halfling is the chief judge, residing in the capital city of Harvendale. Kish has encountered a few more problems with its more liberal style of government, but insists they are better off than they were with a King.
