The only skill is aiming, and level knowledge. The simplistic physics removes the skill associated with being able to exploit the game engine to traverse maps faster (bunnyhopping/rocket jumps/grappling hooks/etc), and the aiming takes place in a limited environment with very little vertical component (yeah theres some, but its hardly comparable to q1dm4 or instinctively railing someone flying over your head on the q3 space maps).
