What is this abuse?

So we are about to get through on a 1200 roid 1.2 mil value planet ... going to be a great land wave 1 ... the planet then sells all his ships, donates to fund and goes into vacation mode ... now we will cap less than 100 roids on a 200k value planet and gain hardly any score. Wouldnt this be a perfect example of abuse?

Mzyxptlk 3 Nov 2012 07:52

Re: What is this abuse?

You just cost him 25% of his value. So no, I would call that a great success.

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 07:54

Re: What is this abuse?

That doesnt make me feel much better, he can now sit under the radar and we get screwed over.

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 07:58

Re: What is this abuse?

I mean b4 this ship selling crap if you made it through on a top 10 planet you made it through and got repaid in XP for it .... now because of this it means nothing.

Mzyxptlk 3 Nov 2012 08:33

Re: What is this abuse?

Well, if this makes you feel bad then you should be less short-sighted. Harming your opponent is just as good as getting roids. Seriously, if that happened to me, I'd share the story for laughs.

If you landed on him, and killed 25% of his ships, lost nothing, and didn't gain any roids, would you still be complaining?

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 08:59

Re: What is this abuse?

No because I would gain roids and the 400-500k score we should have gained.

gzambo 3 Nov 2012 09:17

Re: What is this abuse?

your target has lost 1mil value and cannot get resources for a minimum 72 hrs plus your getting some roids , having said that personally I think it is abuse of a game feature and said planet should be closed

eksero 3 Nov 2012 10:10

Re: What is this abuse?

Why is it abuse?

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 10:29

Re: What is this abuse?

why wouldnt you be the one to ask that?

eksero 3 Nov 2012 10:32

Re: What is this abuse?

How about you explain what he is abusing?

Like mz said, he gains nothing out of this

Maybe if we were at war with someone that would be nice but when you are just rying to play the game, have fun gain score and roids its rather f-ed up ... i mean you are about to get a nice land on a top planet and all the fun is instantly removed because of this ... I dont know if this has been a feature for long or not or if it has been abused this way, but selling ships to donate to fund to make it so your attackers gain nothing, doesnt seem like the intent of the feature.

So because it didnt suit you it is abuse?

I also had a wave pled on him (as ND and TGV double booked that gal) and it cancelled my launch :(

Patrikc has now screwed his chance of winning the round, he will still lose roids which will hurt him further and he SHOULD now be low priority def in his alliance..

As eksero says tho it is NOT abuse. The feature has no rules attached to it, selling all your ships gives the planet a negative result and therefore cannot be used to gain from something, yes it downgraded your cap but your still capping.

He will rearrive in the universe in 3 days with the ability to instabuild 800k value, when every other decent planet has already gone past 1 mill value.

He failed, deal with it

Forest 3 Nov 2012 10:59

Re: What is this abuse?

Will he be smaller and get donations from the gal to make up for his losses?

Killeah 3 Nov 2012 11:49

Re: What is this abuse?

possibly, but thats the essence of PA and top planets, very few if any make it top 3 without substantial help from others, it being escorts, priotized def, donations, etc.

It comes at a cost of those helping, so overall that seems just fine

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 12:12

Re: What is this abuse?

It spure fking bullsht ... whats the point in attacking if every good land you have this can happen.

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 12:22

Re: What is this abuse?

being top 20-30 in value it isnt always easy to find lands that give good xp ... I dont care about his round being ruined why should he be able to screw over my attack just because we are going to land.

ManiacMagic 3 Nov 2012 12:24

Re: What is this abuse?

he may as well be able to delete his planet with no delay so people cant land.

Plaguuu 3 Nov 2012 14:00

Re: What is this abuse?

This will close to never happen, cause you're basicly crashing huge, just not in the standard way.

this is fail by patrikc in every way, except for the fact that it is an epic troll.

Re: What is this abuse?

From a purely technical point of view, anyone who salvages his ships and then loses ~25% of his value and 3 days of income is going to suffer more in terms of rank than someone who gets roided; all ships have to be rebuilt and that's going to take time; when the planet exits vacation mode, how will all the incoming be stopped? will the alliance / galaxy agree to stop it all?
It does suggest more of an ulterior motive; certainly not specifically aimed at you, ManicMagic. :)

ManiacMagic 4 Nov 2012 07:26

Re: What is this abuse?

yeah though being below bash limits with 1k roids means easy def vs incs to keep hiding ressy. I'm not saying it was aimed specifically at me really just that it was a BS move ... prior to being able to sell ships if you made it through ally def, gal def, and production making you got your land ...

maybe making value not drop for 12 ticks after selling ships would be a nice way to prevent this, or value not dropping from donating for 12 ticks ... because at the moment if it was a race between nr 2 and number 1 ... all the planets being hit by number 1 or 2 could do this to prevent gains ... to me this is clear abuse of the sell ships option.

I do not see how it effected the race between #1 and #2, other than it has almost certainly defeated patricks chances of finishing in the top 10.

Obviously it is annoying for you as that land would of been nice, but I highly doubt this tactic will be used regularly!!

Kaiba 4 Nov 2012 12:33

Re: What is this abuse?

HIs resources are now in the alliance fund btw... so they can be shared out to help his alliance???

it's no more abuse than starting a planet and building only widows. it has advantages and drawbacks.

noooo i said IF like at the end of the round, when the number two plane tis baout to get a land ... and pass number 1 ... the target planet could do this and screw him over ... thats the point this isnt fair AT ALL. And tell me thats not something APP wouldnt do lol.

isn't it like just putting up the white flag and surrendering though? you're getting free roids, just not a glorious victory.

ManiacMagic 5 Nov 2012 06:55

Re: What is this abuse?

in a way ... but when you were going to gain 400k score and 250 roids then after this gain abotu 20k score and 100 roids ... its quite the thing to tick you off.

Tiamat101 5 Nov 2012 08:36

Re: What is this abuse?

Why does it matter? MM he lost value, he can no longer challenge you for a round win. You still capped roids and still got xp. Does that mean its abuse? No because his round is ruined and yours is not. This is a highly debated feature that is causing a lot of issues as I understand. However there is a pretty big loss involved with using it just like using vacation mode.

Plaguuu 5 Nov 2012 10:54

Re: What is this abuse?

Low value planets crashing same init ship on top planets is way more annoying, should be a bashlimit going upwards, to prevent it in the same way we have a limit to stop noobbashing.

I think you fail to see the point

there is a huge diff btwn about to get 400k score and 250 roids

and then only getting 40k and 100 roids ...

and because it doesnt ruin my round it isnt abuse? So if I decide to leave ally and sent my ships to their death on an ally m8 and him get my roids in return ... thats not abuse right ... its just attacka nd counter attack, and it doesnt ruin your round only mine?

ManiacMagic 5 Nov 2012 16:48

Re: What is this abuse?

better question do you all think this is a fair tactic and should be allowed? Do you think if you are about to land on a great target that they should be allowed to sell their ships and prevent you from getting the gains you expected?

Mzyxptlk 5 Nov 2012 18:04

Re: What is this abuse?

If it costs them 25% of their value? Yes. But I do hope they realize it's dumb.

Re: What is this abuse?

MM You don't matter in this, did patrikc screw you over? Yes Does he care Not really. Should he care about your score gain? NO! Because his round is over. This is the same tactic that galaxy's use when they are going to get raided they all go into vacation mode and then they end up losing SO MUCH more than if they had just weathered it out.

Patrikc 6 Nov 2012 09:02

Re: What is this abuse?

Like I mentioned before, ManiacMagic actually got the better end of the deal because his wave (the first one) was covered - it wasn't until I saw the J afterwards that I had defence recalled. I realised I had already spent way more time than I intended to on PA and the combination of minimizing their gains and sabotaging my own round (making sure I wouldn't try to come back) was too good to ignore.

I do agree though that value/score shouldn't drop from a single mistake (or press of a button), but the solution to that problem is a long way out and is far from top priority to 'fix' PA.

Ps. COME TO INNUENDO - TAX-FREE FOR EVERYONE

A confirmation checkbox in the ship selling form would probably be a good idea. Right now the ship selling page is very similar to the production page. A checkbox would be enough of a difference to prevent any potential mishaps.
