A A Gill. Does anyone actually take anything this man says seriously?

Whilst hes not too far away when he sticks to the subject of the food and the restaurant , the second he comments on anything else, he sounds like a spoiled 8 year old whos mother wont buy him the latest toys.

This article made its way around the office recently. So much of it is blatantly made up that if he quoted any sources for his comments, he would be sued to within an inch of his life.

The mans an absoloute moron. No wonder Gordon Ramsey threw him out. If i saw him personally, id smack him square in the face.

I particularly dislike his final 2 paragraphs. Possibly moreso than anything else he says in the article.

I read the entire article.

And I'm smirking right now.

It's very funny actually.

Obviously, if it was the other way round and he was laying into Jersey in the same way he has the Isle of Man, I'd be peeved off and defensive too.

They valleys doesn't have any black people (well cynon valley anyway, and at least as far as I have seen) though we had our first illegal immigrants the other day \o/ They didn't speak a word of English yet somehow managed to rent a flat over looking the girls school and spent lunchtime exposing themselves to all the girls until the police turned up.

Theres plenty.

Theres a high population , ever growing, of varying ethnicities to cover the islands growing service industries. The fact Mr Gill managed to avoid these people entirely says to me he arrived at the airport , drove straight to his friends house in the middle of ****ing nowhere, then to ciapelli's , and caught the evening flight home without actually walking down any street whatsoever.

The mans a moron with delusions of idiocy.

Is there not like really high broadband penetration and excellent tax incentives for game developers in the IOM.... That seems pretty forward to me.....

to be fair it is mostly tongue in cheek and I can't quite believe that the isle of man isn't ghastly.

Tongue in cheek is mildly amusing. Attacking every single facet of an island which relies on tourism in a massive selling national newspaper, thats fantastic.

I think the rest of the world should be allowed to do it.

"London. Its absoloutely shit. Why would anyone want to visit? I mean, for gods sake , AA Gill lives there."

london doesn't rely on tourism.

frankly i find it bizzare to imagine that the isle of man does.

after all who would go?

I've never been very fond of AA gill but when he says (tongue in cheek) "The weather’s foul, the food’s medieval, it’s covered in suicidal motorists and honky folk who believe in fairies and whip each other" do you seriously intend to disagree?

at least try and argue with what he says. simply posting on GD the equivalent of

no.

The Isle of man may well be an offshore financial centre, but the introduction of the European Savings Tax Directive has severely damaged the finances of all the offshore islands, hence the Islands traditional reliance on tourism has become even more important.

no island is owed a living and it seems pretty silly to argue that AA Gill is "an absolute moron" just because his article may damage the isle of man's tourist industry (a phrase which i still find disturbing to write)

instead it is a well written and highly amusing article from an obviously inteligent man: you just don't like what he's saying.

The fact it is carefully written to avoid any reference to specific individuals which may make Mr Gill or his employes liable to some form of court action does NOT detract from the defamatory nature of his writing.

Ill happily accept someone throwing a criticism or such of any individual or area with a properly researched and factually accurate article.

What Gill writes is borderline bullshit, and the fact his readership finds it amusing for him to do this doesnt reflect particularly well upon said individuals.

well actually it does.

It's perfectly standard practice for a newspaper to avoid getting sued for defamation but that's not the point.

Mr Gill is expressing his genuine and personal opinion so it would never be defamation anyway (despite the fact that you can't defame an island). I think as a non-lawyer it would be better if you didn't use legal terms.

But again we are back to the fact that all Mr Gill did was express an opinion that you disagree with.

So far you've called him a moron and then claimed he was somehow close to breaking the law. Thank goodness you are a supporter of freedom of speech!
