Where do you picture yourself in five years time
 

As of my current entrepeneuring I am every now and then forced to give forecasts to the investors on several projects I´m currently undertaking. One of the most usual is the five year forecast.

Now, I have on paper where exactly I hope to be in five years time (and it seems to warrant giving me huge amounts of dosh).

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Escaping the Netherlands going to Spain, working there in the IT branch, with a nice apartment, still single, still saving money for my Nissan Skyline with neon lights, adminning my own game in my spare time, having visited many far away countries in my holidays.

That's what I think I'll be doing in five years time. I'm really set on leaving the country, with it being quite shit at the moment and me not getting along very well with my boss. Spain is the first place that pops in my mind with it having a nice climate and a good job-base with it being a booming IT country.
I'm going to Japan in the summer, so I think I'll have visited quite a few countries in five years, ofcourse, depending how much I'm going to like my trip to Japan.
And I'm making my game, but I'm finding little time to work on it because I'm exhausted at the end of the day. But with my current relationship with my boss I think I'll find enough spare time when I'm in between jobs when I'm really fed up with this.
And the Nissan... well... that's something I just want to buy someday. If I didn't have the Nissan-dream I wouldn't have a real reason to work. But ofcourse, the traveling also required quite a budget.

So, all in all I know what I want. I know where I want to stand in five years time with the exception of wage. At this moment I find fun in my job more important than the money I get for it. My current job pays reasonably well (for Dutch standards) but I hate it.

I have no plans for tomorrow, let alone in five years time.

By the time, I do hope to have been graduated and have found a stable job and a decent place to live, but that's a pretty generic thing that I think everyone hopes. Oh, I do not hope to be married or have any children yet.

Hmm, married, hopefully a child by then, still being housed by the university cause Mark will still be doing something academic, working fom home doing something accountanty, and with quite a lot of spare cash in the bank.

I think the last may be over-optimistic.

I'll be living in Rotterdam, with or without my current girlfriend and I'll probably have a different job, something that comes closer to what I like to do I guess. Oh yeah and kids, at least one if we're still together then. Well, at least one.

Pretty dull eh? but yeah.

What I hope for: Teaching at a school in rural Shrewsbury, the toast of the profession, with teenage girls in perfectly pressed school uniform at every turn. Every day there will be fine, and the scenery will be beautiful. Regularly on a high as a result of how satisfying my life is.

What I expect to be doing: Working in Leeds, the dogsbody of the office, with fat men called Jon at every turn. It will rain every day there, and the scenery will be a post-industrial wasteland. Regularly on class-A drugs as a result of how unsatisfying my life is.

I would like to be settled down with my missus, in a comfortable and challenging managerial role in an IT company. Hopefully in a different country, ireland is pissing me off at the moment. Oh and to be not addicted to nicotene. A child would be nice but do you know how much they cost a year half a million or so ffs!

hmm.. married, either living in a nice house in the city (still Calgary) or a nice house on acerage outside the city with a couple horses (depends on the $$ flow at the time). i'd imagine in a couple years i'll go back to school to finish my pharmacy degree.

i'm like leshy.. i can't even plan tomorrow never mind 5 years from now :\

I imagine I'll be some kind of IT consultant, hopefully still living with friends (but possibly not), half-way to owning a property. Probably single.

I hope to not be single (well, if I was still with my current girlfriend, but that's unlikely) and also hope to have at least one book written (irrespective of what my job entails).

Either way I'd almost certainly still be in London.

To be honest, life generally manages to screw any long-term plan you make anyway, so I don't even bother. There is nothing wrong with looking ahead and choosing a direction, but I much prefer to simply let life come and deal with it as I go along.

I'll either be living in Oban working in my current job, or I'll be a high school maths teacher. It depends if I get my arse in gear or not. Either way I'll still be living with Tony, but no kids. In fact I might be on top of a high building with him, helping him to choose targets.

Given I'm going to be the only one working still at that point, this is where my plan might fall apart. Thats one of the reasons I want to work from home, I can do everything that way. Plus uni accomodation is dead cheap, and Mark will probably be bringing in more money as a student, what with loans and a few grants, than he is now!

So that's three of us who are prospective teachers on GD. That's almost enough to set up our own GD School! Hooray.



In 5 years? I'd like to be working somewhere nice - perhaps Jersey, perhaps somewhere else - teaching ICT. By that stage I'll either hopefully have been in a school and be well-established, or I'll be trying to rise up the ranks in an ICT department.

That's what I'm hoping for. Who knows though, mmm?

Relationship-wise I have no idea. It's too far ahead, and currently I'm single (as of 2 weeks ago :/ ) so am not exactly looking now.

interesting. i almost went the teaching route myself. i was gonna teach music to highschool kids. but my 'musical ear' is so trained that i visibly wince at concerts if i hear a wrong note (went to a symphony with my parents and my mom noticed me cringing every so often) that i think i would go insane trying to teach highschool kids music :(
well that and students are generally little shits especially to substitute teachers, which i would have to start out as.
congrats to you guys for sticking to your plan though, hope you make it :)

I don't have a clue, but probably being more bored and doing more drugs.
Hopefully not a job nor marriage or other serious relasionships. I'm going to be young for as long as I can.

Finished my Masters Diploma in Architecture, married to my girlfriend and have a kid, a job probably as an Architect or something I truly love (like TV sports presenter or a radio DJ) or become a teacher if anything fails.

How are you going to get there though?

I mean, 1 year ago you were talking about how you would get 'abroad' to get your work experience, go a year to England, most likely London, now, next week you'll be on Texel, where I think you won't do any driving lessons, will you? So you took about 50 lessons, did 4 exams, failed those and now your theorycertificate won't be valid anymore.

So you are not going to get there by car.

Now I know how I drive, and at times it is madness, but never 'lethal' or 'dangerous' (well dangerous for the car, but never dangerous as in 'we will crash and die')
