I have difficulties choosing but if I really must probably the M. It still hurts to let the P go for Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam as they have hours and hours of great stuff.

Probably "T" as then I'd not just envelop bands beginning with the letter, I'd be able to absorb all bands starting the "The" as their band name.

This plus, Shellac, Sigur Ros, Simon and Garfunkel, Sparklehorse, Sufjan Stevens and Sun Ra makes S my favourite.

However B is also a strong choice.

Upon close consideration I'd go for S. B has the big hitters but S has more diversity and in the long run that's got to be the deciding factor.

Checking through my mp3s, it seems "B" would probably be my choice too.

Billy Bragg / Blink 182 / Blur / Beatles / Beck / Beautiful South / Bee Gees / Brand New / Blood Hound Gang / Black Flag / Beethoven / Bach. Oh and Betty Curse!

R and S would probably be secondary choices.

Still if I was going to agree to any deal like this I'd probably pick "D" and then I could always just ask DJ XYZ to make me a "remix" of whatever song that sounds identical to the orignal which would allow me to listen to whatever I want while still technically obeying the agreement (sort of). Failing that, "W" and then just listen to the Weird Al version of whatever.

This was more difficult than I thought!

Muse and Massive Attack made an excellent case for M, while R had the heavyweights Radiohead, REM and RATM (maybe Razorlight, but they're only ok) and K had the Killers, Kasabian and the Klaxons.

Maybe this would be easier if we had to listen to all the shit stuff in the chosen letter too. If so M would win, because Kaiser Chiefs annihilate K and good god I just don't think I could live without Museic.

If you think the Kaiser Chiefs are an example of a terrible band, then god knows you haven't experienced much music. Try listening to, say, the Butthole Surfers or a similarly terrible group.

I also suspect there exists noone on this board who has even come close to listening to a significant minority of the music from a single letter of the alphabet, let alone the majority or entirety.

I wansn't going to reply to this thread, because when I looked at my library there was no one letter that really stood out above the rest, but on reflection (and based on what i've actually been listening to lately), i've got to say the letter M, because of:
Metric, Mozart, Motorhead, Muse, and a lot of things that are good when you're in the right mood:
Millencollin, the Magic Numbers (no idiot files 'the' bands under 't'), Massive Attack and metallica.

Of Nick Cave's stuff, I generally prefer more melodic things like No More Shall We Part, or Murder Ballads, to the more Grinderman/Birthday Party direction.

Think I'd go for M aswell... Good variety of really good artists :D

Can add stuff like Madrugada and Minor Majority(Norwegian bands) here aswell as many others...

Edit: Also Mark Knopfler and Marilyn Manson got some stuff worth listening too ;)
