Its probably just too thick so ask a hairdresser to thin it out. Whenever my hair isnt really short, it gets absurdly thick so I need to get it thinned out every 4-6 weeks, even if I'm not getting any length taken off.

I think you're right. However, I object to £8 spent on a haircut performed by a fat ex-dinner lady who wields her scissors like a strimmer.

I do also think this thread should turn into a celebration of bad hair days, or days when you happen to look like a 'geeky christian fag'. Either would probably be funny.

I remember when haircuts used to cost £8, before I moved to London :(

I think your hair looks great in both pictures. You could shave your head. Ive done this a few times in its fun. Another tip would be as Nodrog said get your hair thinned although that would probably cost £20. I would leave your hair it looks good.

The trick is to almost never use shampoo. Your hair will be clean, and won't be ****ed up :)

You wash your hair but do not use shampoo? I pray you don't use hairgel either?

Shampoo is overrated, you can perfectly clean your hair with just water. I have the same problem when I'm having long hair, shampoo makes it so that I can't do anything with it. Even while using a strong gel it will not form like I would. I use shampoo a couple of times a week but oftenly on days that I don't need to go out or haven't got a reason to have my hair look cool.

I'm shaved now, so I don't have to go through all that bullshit anymore.

Re: GD, a hair problem

use conditioner, and then a fluff reducing product such as frizz ease secret agent (not the serum)
or go get an x tenso treatment at your hairdresser (about £20) that will reduce the volume of your hair.

roadrunner_0 10 May 2006 12:30

Re: GD, a hair problem

my hairdresser only costs me £5 :D

but yeah, what nodrog said, get it thinned out a bit when you get it cut, and maybe see about getting it a little bit shorter anyway if what you are after is a little bit more control over it

Lock yourself in your room and destroy all mirrors. Then cut your hands off so you can't feel your hair. Problem solved, that'll be eight pounds please.

It's pretty simple really. My hair only looks good when I don't wash it. Which makes me feel dirty and greasy etc.

Even more so, whenever I shower I have some psychological hangup such that I have to wash my hair. Leaving the only way for me to have a decent hair day is to forgo showering altogether. Which is a perfectly fungible option in winter, but now that it's hot and humid there's a lot of sweating going on.

Is it just my hair that gets ruined by shampoo or is that common?

Boogster 10 May 2006 14:28

Re: GD, a hair problem

Thanks for the advice, guys. At least now I don't feel like the only fluff-sufferer in the world. Madi, I can never be arsed with conditioner/ frizz-stuff, but I know I should. Acro, it appears that we have very similar problems - this thread was pretty much a double of yours (I should have checked), with the notable exception of my pictures, which ostensibly prove that I am a God-fearing Christian.

Tomkat 10 May 2006 14:37

Re: GD, a hair problem

My hair goes fluffyish too, but in a different way.

Use conditioner, like madi said.

Get the hairdresser to thin it out, like nod said. That's what I used to do. Also, if you're in a strop about having to pay £8 for a haircut, then you can't complain about your hair. If I go somewhere that costs £8, I expect to get £8 worth of haircut - which generally is bogstandard and shit. I mean for chrissakes I spent £11 on getting it all shaved off to a #2 ready for when it dropped out. For a proper haircut I usually spend over £20. And you get what you pay for.

hair is too much effort to get overly worried about. Your hair looked fine in both pictures.

I just get it cut well (£15) now and again and leave it at that. Never get a student haircut.

I might sound stroppy, but having £200 to live off for 7 weeks makes a £20 haricut seem a rather unnecessary expense.

Only costs me £4.95 for a decent haircut, you southerners are ripped off.

KaneED 10 May 2006 15:05

Re: GD, a hair problem

My hair costs £8 for a haircut in Aber, but £5 at home, well it used to before my barber left the barbershop, I got it for like half price because I'd been going there all my life.

Your hair seems pretty thick because its popping up which is exactly what my hair does, the only way to sort this out is to get ti cut short and then thinned so its easier to manage.

i'm not sure why you would run a search of the planetarion forums for your hygiene questions, but i did think you might find some of that relevant. and yes, in retrospect my thread was unfortunately very manpicture-deficient.

It depends where you live. I can get a better haircut in Edinburgh for £15 than I can in London for £25

Tomkat 10 May 2006 18:45

Re: GD, a hair problem

I'm sure this discussion has been done before, but oh well.

It's just about priorities. I want to feel like my hair looks the best it can. I also quite enjoy going to the hairdressers - getting my hair and head massaged and shampooed, them asking how I want it done, me asking for advice on what they think, then gradually my hair going from a size I don't really like being transformed into something where I think "hey I look good".

It isn't just an annoying necessity for me - it's something that can and does affect how I conduct myself. If I think I look shit with shit hair my confidence is dramatically reduced. If I think I look great and my hair looks great then I shine. Hurrah!

Re: GD, a hair problem

either get your hair softly relaxed for 'strong' effects, or use anti-frizz shampoo/conditioner, or get it thinned. i've been doing the initial two for a while but i've recently got fairly sick of long hair and am probably going to get it thinned and cut a bit within the next couple of months.

Re: GD, a hair problem

You'll miss it when it's gone. Abuse it while you can.

I shouldn't think it'd be hard to find some styling gel/wax/mousse/goop that would do the job, there seems to be more and more of the stuff these days.
And more and more in packaging that won't embarass the crap out of a regular heterosexual male.

What is the incidence of male-pattern baldness in your family? The problem may only be a temporary one. Also, may I say that all of this concern about one's hair seems a trifle less than manly?
