That would sound about right. I sit just above the £17k bracket just now. Technically i come in higher than that stat shows, since i pay Isle of Man income tax (4-6%) as opposed to UK income Tax.

I think its pretty accurate. Average earnings tables tend to be issued by the Government to convince everyone theyre actually doing really well.

I think wed struggle to find 10 people here earning in excess of £20k a year and still working 35 hours a week.

Good luck to you then Stew. But bear in mind we have a lot of students here, but not a huge amount graduating with Firsts (which is the bunch who tend to pull in the £20k salaries).

It's quite hard to get a job that pays > 20k a year straight from uni. You either have to be very good at what you study or very lucky.
However - if I do a PHD in the Machines and drives part of my department - i could get a salary to the tune of £24k :cool:
More likely - if I do it in the comms part I'd get £18.5k. (and I've already been offered that position - all I need is a 2:1)

Apparently I'm in the top 11% of the United Kingdom (money, not gayness). Fear my wealth. :rolleyes:

I earn £23k-ish for 30 hours a week plus my fees get paid for a degree (worth another £4k).

I got a 2:2 in my degree and I'm definitely below average when it comes to being hard-working or reliable in any fashion.

For people living in large cities, earning more than £20k is not that hard.
