Person You Respect of the Month

I'm slightly fed up with this 'wanker od the month' idea. Hence avoiding voting in it and trying to avoid the numerous succession threads.

Negativity can become ever so slightly consuming and frankly it all smacks of envy really.

So I hereinby propose a "Person You Respect of the Month" thread for those individuals who do something really outstanding during the month.

Past winners (gods have retrospective powers; innit) include the mother of Anthony Walker (the murdered black teenager) for her truly moving decision to forgive her son's racist killers.

Nominations are open. Nominate anyone you want. Just make sure that you genuinely feel moved to respect them because of something they have done or said.

I nominate Moussaoui's Defence Lawyer and seriously recommend you all use the website to 'listen again' to his interview on bbc radio 4 at after 7 o'clock this morning.

(I request mod assistance)

Scolari for sticking two fingers up at the FA.

Re: Person You Respect of the Month

I don't think you've quite grasped the idea ...

It's more for people who 'give a positive and moving message to the betterment of mankind' rather than 'some greedy football manager who decides not to take a job'

Not taking the job because some idiot told the press he was in line for the job then refusing it inspite of the huge financial package because of terrible press attention on his family is worthy of respect.

Either that or that woman who shagged John Prescott for sheer bravery.

I'll second Scolari.

Re: Person You Respect of the Month

I think the problem here is that GD has an inherently negative outlook on all things, and as such a Wanker of the Month, where they can vent their spleen, is a popular choice.

My vote for "Person I respect of the month" would have gone to Big Sam Allardyce for wearing his heart on his sleeve and saying how passionately he wanted the England job, when he knew it was going to another of the old boys network despite very few people wanting McLaren as boss.

Obviously more than want Allardyce, though!

I'd rather have McLaren than Allardyce.

For reasons in that other thread.

I find myself incapable of voting for a defense lawyer. However, I would nominate the entire Moussaoui jury.

Re: Person You Respect of the Month

Have to agree with DDA on this one that to show that level of restraint when a nation is baying for the death penalty is worth a considerable level of restraint

Im thinking maybe the defence argument of Martyrdom did it.

dda 4 May 2006 19:09

Re: Person You Respect of the Month

Actually I think that while the jury felt he was better kept off of the streets, he was a buffoon. They just couldn't invision him having the level of involvement he attributed to himself. I really don't think that martyrdom was in it. I know that I never could buy him as a bonifide candidate to fly a fifth airplane.

Evo Morales is a good one. However, I am compelled to nominate Pete Doherty for what I imagine are obvious reasons.

I nominate Yahwe for making this thread and starting something that hopefully (although I don't hold much hope based on some of the previous replies in this thread...) will make these forums slightly more interesting!

In terms of celebrities in the public eye, Jose Mourinho would win it most months for me since he has many of the qualities I find important in people (talent, confidence, self-belief, integrity, intelligence).

Most of the best football managers have been terrible losers, he's no worse than Alex Ferguson.

Am I right in thinking that for him to be executed, all of the jusry had to be up for it? If so, do we know what the proportion was?

That's why he's so great.
But he does recently seem to have gone a bit, how do I phrase this, cuckoo.

Kurashima 4 May 2006 21:45

Re: Person You Respect of the Month

Mourinho is one of those people who, when things are going wrong, cant see what the problem is because theyre so sure of themselves.

Adaptability is not his strong point. He cant work out why the best players and the best coach cant beat everyone.

I would like a mod to make this thread a poll.

let it run concurrent with your own.

We are all inundated with negative news stories. We (not I) are more than able to see through propaganda and slow news days.

There are people to respect.

I suggest Mrs Walker

and the defence team of Moussaoui

There is a great deal of goodness in this world. The GD 'heavy-weights' may well disagree on how to move forward; but we are not a hate filled community

*sigh*

Ok , i tell you what. Since you seem to be of the impression that every single post i make is coming from the centre of the universe in my eyes, ill make a point of never again posting in a thread youve created for the danger of bringing my king-size negativity in and thus upsetting the delicate balance of postive/negative karma that exists within threads on GD*

*may/may not be absoloute bollocks pasted here for the sake of getting you off my case. And the odds of a Yahwe thread having a balanced discussion that doesnt dissolve into name calling and abuse is around equal to Scotlands chances in the 2006 World Cup.

well

that wasn't what i said.

you are seeming to be rather egocentric.

If that was what you thought I said when reading my post then the fault is mine.

At the moment they've given up the ghost because there's not much happening between 'interesting' alliances. However, their rate of useful posting is far greater than GD's when a thread in either forum snowballs.

Why? It's because we've had all of the decent arguments already - God, fatties, time travel/physics, Communism, Empire, unlike on AD where new situations can occur at any time.

Oh well. At least there's some good reading material for anyone who wants some.

Yes, I've always considered the real world less interesting than Planetarion myself. Who wants to discuss actual events when there are alliances being dashed and forged in the fabric of cyberspace.

Do you hear that, Mr. Furball? That is the sound of inevitability.

I'd like to take this oppurtunity to link this:

They're essays by some dude about the storyline behind the matrix films, I read them last night and they were pretty interesting. Granted I'm no expert and for all I know this guy could be a crackpot of the matrix theorising community, but they seemed good to me.
